Game Guys Review: Naruto Shippuden Clash of Ninja Revolution 3 for the Nintendo Wii

Naruto Shippuden Clash of Ninja Revolution 3 is the latest in the Clash of Ninja series of fighting games based on the popular Naruto anime. The previous edition, Clash of Ninja Revolution 2 was a runner-up for fighting game of the year for 2008. With how the third edition came across, the notion of a best fighting game nomination are almost hard to imagine.

I love tearing up uninformed reviews. I really do, it's almost a pastime of mine really.

Here we go, but keep in mind, I'm not going to critisize the persons opinion, he is somewhat entitled to it, but simply correct a few, how should I say...errors:

"The game does feature a rather impressive cast of characters, though only a select few are available initially. Others can be unlocked as you play through the game."

I guess technically true...but he definitely doesn't seem to portray the idea of unlocking characters to buy in the in-game shop all too well. It's small little things like this which gives me the impression he didn't really play the game all that much to give a more truthful review.

"While you can use the Wii Remote and nunchuck to play, the game is best played with a classic or GameCube controller as using the more industry-standard control scheme will prove to be at the gamer's advantage. Besides, using the awkward remote/nunchuck setup means that the Wii's motion controls come into play, and play-punching and shaking the remote to get the on-screen characters to do what you want them to isn't exactly an enjoyable gameplay experience."

While people do enjoy GCN and classic controllers, the reviewer fails to include the fact that there is a button mode added this time around to Wii Remote and Nunchuck combo. I use that input to play and so I actually have an advantage to playing with it since my cinematic supers do more damage and I can make and hand signs and throw paper bombs, while still being able to play with super precise combos that before only the standard controller could do.

"The game features a small handful of play modes, including the standard VS and story modes as well as a lag-riffic online option. While I would love to talk in-depth about the story mode, I couldn't figure out how to activate Sakura's secret (jujitsu) technique. And it wasn't for lack of effort on my part. At least I can point out that the voice-acting is on par with the previous Clash of Ninja game as are the cell-shaded anime-style graphics."

I beg to differ about the lack of effort. If he was using the GCN controller...it's the X button at full chakra. I'm can't remember if the game explains it to you because I already knew how to do it, but I know for a fact it's in the instruction manual, he should have tried reading it. (Also, it's just jutsu not jujitsu, get it right, believe it!). A laggy online seems to be the default response to any online Wii game. You know what, when I play random battles, hardly any lag, when I play friends, hardly any lag. Not perfect, but don't blame a game for your internet connection.

"More experience fighting-genre gamers will want to stay away from this title as other options such as Street Fighter, Tekken and Guilty Gear are the better choices. Fans of the anime or game franchise, however, might as well give Naruto Shippuden Clash of Ninja Revolution 3 a go."

It's really hard to take this guys word for it when he clearly didn't try very hard to enjoy this game. The use of a special (chakra) meter was never mentioned, the various moves each character has, LNP modes, nor does he mention the fact that it can support four players at once. So many basic things this guy leaves out, so forgive if I say that this review is a steaming pile of crap.
