Tony Hawk defends Ride

Pro skateboarder accuses critics of being 'snarky' as game fails to enter UK Top 40.

Globally recognised pro skateboarder Tony Hawk has spoken in defence of Activision's Tony Hawk: Ride, accusing many critics of failing to give the game the credit he feels it deserves.

"Most snarky critics had their minds set before ever seeing/playing the game," Hawk said on his Twitter profile. "I'm proud of what we created; it's innovative, responsive and fun."

kratos1235256d ago

go play your game and then come back to defend it damn this game sucks

bacon135256d ago

I've played your game Tony and while its good on paper, your game is NOT responsive, not fun and way too overpriced. For $120, buy a board, a helmet and some pads and teach yourself the real thing, a billion times more gratifying than this crap.

The_Devil_Hunter5256d ago

@bacon

For reals, you hit right were it hurts.

Salvadore5256d ago

His head is so far up Activision's ass he can't see nor hear anything. Seriously, when the game receives low scores across the board, you know it's crap.

NoBias5256d ago

Is that board in anyway compatible with SKATE?

KillJoi995256d ago

Since when is Tony Hawk's opinion on videogames credible?

Bnet3435256d ago

I love when people pull out the "Did you play it?" line. Of course I didn't play it because the game sucks sweaty donkey balls. Games get reviewed so you don't waste your time and money on the bad ones. This isn't a $20 game that I can rent and try and then judge or even play a demo and base my opinion on that. It's a $120 pile of flaming dog turd that isn't worth buying at even half the price. It doesn't work. It's broken. I'm not going to spend $120 on a game to see if it's good or not. I also don't have any friends that have the game so I can try it either. They'd be hella dumb to even have that pile of poo in their homes.

Rocket Sauce5256d ago

You can't pay attention to reviewers, because they're always creaming their pants over whatever the flavor of the month is. The last time I paid attention to a review, I got GTA 4 and I hated it.

I'm sure Tony Hawk Ride sucks, but if it wasn't $120 and if Skate didn't exist, I might have taken a look at it.

ReBurn5256d ago

His opinion is probably as valid as any of ours.

Elven65256d ago

KillJoi99: Tony Hawk is into gaming and not just a recent gamer like a majority of them are, have you seen his house on Cribs? I'd trust Tony's view on something more than that of a few others.

That being said, Ride is a failure, Activision realized it was going to bomb at E3 and basically left it out to die. I'm surprised Robomondo, a developer made up of Midway, EA, etc veterans pulled that out.

vhero5256d ago

He is gonna stick up for it I mean his names on the box dammit!

Parapraxis5256d ago

- "Most snarky critics had their minds set before ever seeing/playing the game," Hawk said

I'd agree with him...if it were true.

But look at how well some new IPs have done this gen.

Look at the reviews for DJ Hero, most sites were very skeptical with that game as well, but after giving a chance (just like they surely did with Ride, Mr. Hawk) Most people loved it.

But sure, go ahead and try to justify the poor reviews however you want lol.

Perjoss5256d ago

when a company gets as big as activision its usually not another company that kills them, the company usually kills itself. Keep trying to rip people off activision and see where you end up.

KillJoi995256d ago

No one is talking about other games. We're talking about HIS game and obviously HIS view point is biased.

That being said if he really was into video games he would deep down see how crappy it is and take HIS name to another company to put out a good video game for HIS name.

Xgamerzus5255d ago

Stop handing him your cash STOP !!! the buck stops here!!

looks like i need to be a skateboard champion to be able to play it

Defectiv3_Detectiv35256d ago

For the love of god, please stop making games, you are killing skateboarding.

dkgshiz5256d ago

Tony Hawk Pro Skater started skateboarding video games. Unless you just mean the sport in general then yes. Either way this game is awful. The last good Tony Hawk game was THUG.

NecrumSlavery5256d ago

Last good Tony Hawk was Proskater 4. And that was a stretch. The series died in the jackass-style, Story driven, and open world ways of Tony hawk games. Just make it fun again. TH games became to unrealistic.

I miss GRIND. My fav skate game

Defectiv3_Detectiv35256d ago

IMO, the last good tony hawk was part 2

dkgshiz5256d ago

The game is garbage. Hell, I never even played it and I know its garbage! Every review its gotten has been like a 5 or lower. Tony Hawk its time to let it go. Your skate boarding games are done now. Just let them rest in peace.

dirthurts5256d ago

And it was worse than I ever imagined.
Lean left, a full second later, you see the skate BEGIN to turn left, then he sharply cuts in that direction. That's no responsive. That's broken!
I skateboard, and I game. I can tell you this isn't a natural combination. Real skateboarding is easier than this.

That intel wireless gamepad was the inspiration for the 360 wireless racing wheel (and that works really well). I'd say one the author forgot would be the activator from sega.

Why Activision should go back to Tony Hawk’s arcade roots with the new game

We know there’s a new Tony Hawk’s in the works, but it should feel like the oldest of entries to the series.

Sharingan_no_Kakashi3720d ago

There's a new Tony Hawk game coming?

Cautiously optimistic. I want the series to end on a positive note but the last what like 6 entries have been severely disappointing. Hope this one ends the curse.

thorstein3719d ago

I hope they don't blow it. I really liked the earlier games in the series. Then Skate came out and the difference night and day.

UncleGermrod3719d ago

Ha, I was thinking the same thing when I read this. I had no idea there was one in the works...you usually here about these things.

Any ways, I haven't truly enjoyed a THPS title since the underground games back during the ps2/xbox/GC era. I hope if they make one, they try to use that same formula that made the first 6 games so fun.

OmegaShen3720d ago

They just need to make Tony Hawk Underground 3, anything else will be a waste.

DarkLord10033720d ago

I think the series went downhill when they had all the jackass characters in the game..

SoulSercher6203720d ago

Either make it like the THUG games or GTFO.

csreynolds3720d ago

I support this article. THPS2 - best Tony Hawk EVAH. The franchise needs to drop the gimmicks and get back to what matters - addictive, thrilling skateboarding.

Ars: How Activision wiped out on the Tony Hawk: Ride reviews

Ars writes: "Tony Hawk: Ride had major challenges at retail; the high price, the large box, and the drastic change from past games in the series meant the game had an uphill fight to win the affections of skating game fans. Josh Tsui, the president of Robomodo, talked about some of these issues with GameSmith and brought up yet another challenge: the game reviews. Were they rushed? It's very possible, but sadly, that's a situation that Activision itself went out of its way to create."
