MMOHut: Pay to Play MMORPGs Gone Free to Play

MMOHut, "There are many pay to play games out there that have had enormous success when they transformed themselves into free to play titles. Most of more successful MMORPGs like World of Warcraft and Eve Online will likely never go free to play – but titles like Warhammer Online and City of Heroes which are in decline, may go free to play one day. The games..."

any of those games worth trying? I mean like well balanced and fun. not some grind mmo.

WildArmed5257d ago

eh.. no not really.
Most games were fun for the initial 10 hours or so.. then you get used to the new stuff in the game, and grinding comes running back in.

umm.. last mmo i played was Atlantica online.. poured about ~1000 hours into it before quiting due to college n other stuff.
Cabal was great too.. but ultimately grind.
come to think of it.. all mmo's i've played resort to grinding after some point. thats the point of MMO i guess =/

I've tried all except for 4 and 6. The ones I've played are all grind fests except for dungeons and dragons....sort of. The last one I haven't tried yet. Looks interesting.

I think 'free' to play is horrible, When I play an MMO I want everyone to start from scratch, and people who have lots of money in real life to not be able to cheat and get ahead of me with better gear or more stuff because of their luck/fortunes in real life. People who are rich in real life have enough and shouldn't be able to buy everything that's my opinion. Part of the lure of these games is the fact they can offer a more fair world than our own.

I know there is Real money trade in all mmos, but it's all done against the rules, meaning you're taking a risk getting banned doing it.

These articles always go on about 'free to play' mmos, particularly ones that used to be pay to play.

Let's be honest shall we?

These games used to be pay to play but there was no way they could ever maintain enough paying subscribers to sustain themselves. Switching a game from pay to play to free to play is little more than an admission that your MMO isn't good enough to even have enough paying players to maintain it so you had to switch to a different business model.

Top 10 Epic Raid Bosses in MMORPGs

Raid bosses are easily in my opinion the most important aspect of MMORPGs. Games that fall into a different genre may be more dynamic, but only here will tens and sometimes hundreds of players need to come together and work together to defeat an epic boss in a raid. Just simple getting together as many players as possible is not enough to determine your success. Players usually need to use trial and error with a number of different strategies before they can actually take down the boss. All this is done in order to test the weaknesses, come up with an effective approach and correctly coordinate players in the raid.

Over time, the concept of an “epic boss” has become rather blurred. Colossal monsters, the destruction of which requires a long preparation time, and then became just another episode from grandma’s fairy tales. Some raid bosses have already gained the “cult” status, and veterans of MMORPGs could tell you a dozen stories about those legendary fights. Fextralife's author tried to select the most powerful bosses who once upon a time, caused a burning sensation and will certainly awaken stirrings of nostalgic feelings from experienced raiders!

Haha, yea that's why I had to quit FFXI in the mid 2000s. The game had so many ridiculously long raids and fights. Not to mention the long ass NM camps w tons of gold selling bot users waiting to snatch the kill. So frustrating bc they were always there. Some were close to 24 hour camps if I remember. Some shorter. I loved the game & community, but had to walk away. Too demanding. Pandemonium is after my time.
