The blockbuster Grand Theft Auto franchise is unquestionably Take-Two's top property. And while the launch of GTA IV set records at the time of its launch (which have since been broken by Modern Warfare 2), no video game property is ever truly immune to franchise fatigue. Broadpoint AmTech analyst Ben Schachter wonders if GTA has perhaps already peaked.
"...we must raise an even bigger question: has the Grand Theft Auto franchise peaked? Given the strength of GTA IV in 2008, the question may seem misplaced, but our concern is that the very highly rated new GTA content for Xbox as well as PSP and DS did not perform up to expectations in 2009. Now, we very clearly understand that these do not represent 'true' new GTA titles. However, the fact is that these were compelling titles, attractively priced, and reasonably well-promoted, yet they fell relatively flat," Schachter commented. "We do not mean to pour salt on an open wound, but this does raise questions about the strength of TTWO's crown jewel. It is an issue we will monitor closely (we also note that we expect increased competition in the open-world action genre in 2010 and beyond)."
Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."
Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.
2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.
As we have all been graced by the release of Grand Theft Auto 6's trailer, we're ranking the best and worst GTA trailers to date.

Beginning today, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars are now available for GTA+ Members to play on compatible iOS and Android devices.
Sweet. I loved Liberty City Stories despite the city being empty. Those main story missions were tough but fun.
But if they want it to continue to do strong, then Rockstar better make it more fun than IV was.
