Confirmed: Akira Yamaoka Resigns from Konami

While rumors have been floating around that Silent Hill producer Akira Yamaoka has resigned from Konami, OSV has received word directly from the composer/producer himself that he has left the company. Many are wondering what will become of the Silent Hill series that he has produced and composed for in recent years. The upcoming Silent Hill: Shattered Memories will be his final soundtrack release at least as an employee of Konami.

Farewell Silent Hill, we hardly knew ye.

theusedfake5274d ago

all I can say is... Dammit! :(

he was the one thing I could say actually made
the new Silent Hills tolerable.

sinncross5274d ago

His music was pretty good, pity he is resigning.

Megaton5274d ago

I didn't really like his work on the last Silent Hill (nor did I like the game itself), but Silent Hill 2 is still my all-time favorite gaming soundtrack. I listen to at least one song off of it pretty much daily.

That sucks. But in all honesty, it only marks the departure of the last remnant of the old Team Silent. The series has already been reshuffled into the hands of Western devs for a while now. For better or worse, Silent Hill is right now a completely Western franchise.

The game itself was amazing enough...

...but he did all of the music also!

Somebody needs to pick this guy up. I'm thinking Euda and his team, possibly?

I think Silent hill was going already going Down Hill (pun intended)so no loss.

I grew up in a country where we didnt have the majority of consoles you guys had in the rest of the world. My consoles were a Sega 16, and a Microgenius (which I think was a knock off Nintendo NES), I traveled to UK once as a child and bought a Sega Mortal Kombat game, but it was a Sega Genesis (or whatever it was called), and the damn game wouldnt fit into my console. I resorted to cutting the edges of the cartridge to get it to fit in my desperation (imagine that)! Lol

Needless to say it wouldn't run it.

Limitedtimestruggle164d ago

Damn lol! Our first home console was the Sega Master System! Played the controllers to shambles, the console is still live and kicking though!

I have some of these games but I have played them. Still worth a good amount though and they’re in great condition.

I mostly disagree with Downpour's position. Yeah, the game is not amazing by any stretch of the imagination but is much better than the HD Collection and Homecoming. The main issue is the performance, but that was mitigated by the patches, especially on the PS3. Personally, I put it a little behind Origins and The Room.

Having Restless Dreams as a different entry from Silent Hill 2 is also a choice.

bfrye26198d ago

Normally, we would not consider it a different game (Restless Dreams), but since it had a very different critical reception and had new content, it was allowed. As for Downpour, I would agree, but since that one is subjective, we let him make his case for the placement.

gold_drake198d ago

silent hill 2 is definitely the best one out of those.

for me personally, the whole ritual/cult stuff was always so weird to me in all the other games.

CrimsonWing69197d ago

No disrespect but I put SH2 over 1. 1 is fantastic, but 2 took it all up a level.

bfrye26197d ago

We agree, that is why the writer put it in top place!
