Id's Software Quake series returns in 2007 with the upcoming title Enemy Territory: Quakes Wars. The new Quake title focuses on team-based, online multiplayer combat and features objective-centric gameplay with first-person shooter action. Enemy Territory: Quake Wars takes place in the Quake universe during the Quake II era where the invading Strogg aliens are attacking Earth. With Quake Wars, players can take the side of Humans or Strogg, with several character classes for each species. In addition to the taut shooter action Quake fans have come to expect, the new game will also feature deployable vehicles and armaments and will emphasize strategy and teamwork.
Quake Wars utilizes Id Software's MegaTexture rendering technology that creates more unique detail for large terrain and battlefields, eliminating the need for repeated environments. The history of Quake Wars is interesting, too. The new game is developed by Splash Damage, which was started by a group of modders who created the popular mod Quake 3 Fortress. Quake Wars takes the formula of 2003's Enemy Territory: Wolfenstein, which Splash Damage also designed.
