Already Tired of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

it feels like halo now. just a games company trying to churn out games with little to no gamplay improvements, now that they have reached the top. i am just going through the motions. Co-op Spec ops is better than the singleplayer campaign, i am enjoying that.

things will be different in March, they blew this one by being lazy IMO and left the door wide open for a games developer that cares about it's audience.

I spent a good amount of time with MW2 over the weekend at a friend's house, and I gotta say the multiplayer just didn't grab me the way CoD4's did. I think I've racked up somewhere around 7 days of game time in CoD4's multi, but I was pretty much done with MW2's competitive play after a couple hours.

Although it was short enough for me to complete it in a single 5-hour sitting, I loved the campaign, and it was easily my favorite part of the MW2 package. It lays the action on really thick throughout the whole thing, and getting rid of the infinite spawn "monster closets" was definitely a plus.

Spec Ops was ok, but a lot of the missions are either too short, or just too repetitively dull. Going through several rounds of enemies while using a blown out gas station for cover can only provide so much fun.

I think Resistance 2 still holds reign as the best game to utilize the co-op side campaign game type. The rest of R2 was forgettable, but its co-op was amazingly fun. Kept me coming back for a long time after completing the lame single-player campaign.

I got to 4 days of gameplay on COD4 and now with MW2, I just don't see me getting that much gameplay online. It's the same generic shooter, with barely anything new added to the multiplayer experience from COD4. I'm bored of it already. Besides, with more games coming out before the new year, and just after the new year, I don't think I will be playing the online as much as I thought I would.

And those who read N4G lately know I'm a big MW2 supporter. I mean, it's not GOTY by any means, but I didn't understand the hate some people (non PC owners) had for it. But after playing pretty much everyday since Tuesday I feel the same way.

I'm at Level 50, I've unlocked pretty much every weapon I wanted to unlock, almost all of the perks. The maps are starting to get a little old on me. But the thing that kills me the most is the Prestige Level cap. 55 was PERFECT for sucking me into jumping to the next level, but putting it at 70 just makes it feel like such a long time. Then I have to deal with Kill Streaks, Weapons, Perks etc all over again...For another 70 levels.

There's a few things that'll keep this in my system. The first being friend support, which I have like 20 people a night that go on. The second to find out if there's golden guns in the game again, because instead of jumping to the next Prestige level I might just go after them since I didn't in COD4. The third, and final, would be if my clan started up GB.

But if I keep becoming bored I have far too many games to start playing that I've passed up on. Demon Souls, Dragon Age, and ACII coming out. So I guess we'll see what happens in the coming week

There's no way I could play this longer than a week or two. The competitive scene is where you would have found me but just playing with pub scrubs all day is a major let down.

This game offers way more variety than COD4 and offers the same visceral gameplay as COD4 with new maps and features. It's more of the game I love and wonder if any of these comments come from folks that actually played COD4 in MP to the tenth prestige... If not then I can safely say that Modern Warfare 2 is a game made for the true fans of COD4 and will appeal to a crowd that gave that game days worth of game play time. Heck, I think I hit nearly 40 days of time spent in-game on COD4.

I like this game but I am starting to feel a little water logged with the whole franchise. I think it is more because this is now the 3rd year that I have been playing COD games online and not because the game is bad in any way. I do find the special ops mode pretty fun, just kinda hoped it could have been 4 player co-op instead of 2, still adds a ton more hours to the overall experiance. IW did a great job with the title but I think I will be done playing it by January as opposed to years past when I would stop playing in summer or Fall.

Man I'm only like level 30, and i already feel as it's getting too dry. I had the game before release, and soon as i played MP i didn't feel the same excitement like cod4. I just played spec ops, and story then canned mw2. The maps are abysmal, and the gameplay just gets waay to stale after a while. If you have not bought this game yet, don't worry. There will still be thousands a day playing this, you won't miss out. You could get this game a year from now and still have players. Sadly, I would think wisely about this purchase.

I now know where to head for on each one to give me the best possible chance of alot of kills and it gets repetitive.I think another 2 maps were needed to keep things constantly fresh. I'm not a fan of their changes. Gun damage is WAY too high making gun battles boring and a matter of who sees who first, level design is convoluted to the point of lacking major highways of activity, visuals are subpar, netcode is a joke (no, you didn't actually shoot him first!), the guns are boring and its become a camper's heaven so they focus on killstreaks.

I remember when it was all about being a better shot than your opponent. Those were the true days of FPS. Man I miss UT2004... Quake 3.... Halo 2..... Goldeneye 007....

I agree. Gun damages are way to high because it cater to fps noobs and same thing with low to no recoil. It also help mask against lag since it takes less shot people wouldn't notice much of their bullets registering.

the shock rifle in UT was awesome when you used the secondary fire and it's primary fire as a combo. Quake 2 was also a seriously overlooked gem back in the day.

Funny you would say that. Considering MW2's multiplayer is more in depth than KZ2's. I laugh at all of the ladies crying about being bored. If you are already bored with MW2 it's either because you burned your self out on it or because you're one of those people who generally gets tiered of a game fast then moves to the next.

I don't know what it is, but MW just rubs me the wrong way. I've played Halo's, Red Factions (when it was a fps), Dooms, Wolfenstiens, and Killzones. Cod4 just turns me off - so no way was I getting modern warfare 2. The pisser is that I purchased it a year after dropping,it was still $54. I think that maybe I only like fantasy-sci-fi FPS's because for me, Cod is just atrocious to play. It looks great, but I never enjoyed playing it for a moment.

I like it, but I agree to some extent. Call of Duty has historically been a shooter with at least some level of realism. It took itself somewhat seriously. This one, though, took the biggest WEAKNESS with MW1 and amplified it: cheesy and cheap kill streak weapons. Plus the lame guitar riffs and whizz-bangs every time you so much as pick your nose. The game sounds and looks like a damn slot machine with all that stuff going on. It's like someone took the original Call of Duty, and handed it over to Don King for re-design.

That said, it IS fun. But it's NOT Call of Duty anymore, and it's incredibly arcade-ified. Uncharted 2 is infinitely more nuanced in terms of actual gameplay.

Maybe because you're playing the same game over and over for 8+ hours a day. I am level 43 and I am loving it. I play a few hours a day at most, 5 times a week. I'm right there with you. Every time I try to play in the late afternoon or during the day I end up with someone from the UK or somewhere else and it lags to me ridiculously. I have nothing against players who are not from the US like me, but it's very hard to deal with meeting someone and firing off most of a clip into a guy and then die, only to watch the deathcam show you firing 3 or 4 shots into the wall before you die. Infinity Ward failed with this matchmaking BS on more than just the PC versions.

I do like the new funky weapon perks and do still love the gameplay. And they did take away things I hated like martyrdom.

Take the good with the bad, just accept you are in a room with a 2nd room in front of you and a room behind you and each of those rooms have 3 entrances and you will be mowed down within 5 seconds.

and I am so glad I didnt go with MW2. MW2 just seems like (and this is just my opinion) more of the same. I never really got hooked on the first one so why would I buy a revision of something I didnt like the first time.

MAG on the other hand has some great aspects of many genres worked into it: RTS, RPG and FPS. No stupid perks, only commanders having the ability to call in support like mortars, close air, com jamming. Its much more satisfying working with a squad of 8 people to get something done than to just run around in deathmatch spawning every 5 seconds.

MAG just seems like the next big thing in gaming to me, MW2 is old hat.

i usually just read instead of commenting, but this article really reflects what i feeling right now. Bought mw2 because i enjoyed playing COD4 back then and i'm really disappointed and surprised that it's growing stale so fast :/

i'm suspecting this is due to the fact that frankly, i'm not playing anything i haven't done before. The new killstreaks and perks are nice additions...but they are not important changes and i feel a lot more could be done. It's hard to explain but i don't feel this game at all, really kicking myself for not renting it first. I'm seriously considering trading this in soon, there are some games i really want like that new ratchet game

Surprising? Not really. This is a run-of-the-mill MP. The only reason so many people are playing it now is because it's newly released. Let the hype die down and wait a few months, you'll see the figures tumbling rather rapidly.

COD4 was a refreshing change for the series, it even felt like a totally different game from it's predecessors. MW2 however, is more like a rehash than a sequel, not too bad but not worthy in the eyes of the previous game.

CODMW2 is like cotton candy: it's huge, and it's somewhat colorful, but it does not leave you with a "full" feeling and trying too much of it will make you sick after a while.

K2 is like a medium-rare steak: it has just enough color to make it look good, and the blood oddly makes your mouth water; and even at half of the size of cotton candy it fills you up like nothing else. Also, just like a steak, you wouldn't mind it every night.

But I'm preaching to the choir; I'm sure CODMW2's online experience eclipses Halo 3 in your eyes according to your definition of depth, right? I mean, since Killzone is arguably much deeper than Halo 3 in the way you are suggesting that CODMW2 is deeper than K2, you must be ecstatic, would I be presumptuous to say that is correct?

If not, could your please explain how Halo 3 (in your opinion) is in fact deeper than CODMW2 or even Killzone 2 according to the standard of depth you are describing.

I say that only because I personally love Halo 3's multiplayer, but there is no depth at all. I mean, you can arrange your armor, and you have medals and such, but there's not much else to be honest.

Not always true. Maybe if you're running around the level like an idiot, twitching and shooting everything that moves, then yeah, the precision of a mouse is better. However, I tend to play hardcore, which is slower and instant aiming doesn't matter as much. Face it...when I'm a mile away, prone on a rooftop, looking at you through a scope and you have no clue that anybody is watching you, a mouse won't do a damn thing for you.

Doesn't even have to be hardcore. As long as you're not playing it like a twitch-shooter, and are smooth and steady with your aiming, a controller works just fine.

I sold all of my video games. There are so many better things to do than sit down and become a slave to the television for hours on end. Whatever happened to the value of reading a good book, watching a film epic or simply enjoying the night accompanied by some friends? Honestly. I spent SO much time with video games that it was actually starting to seem like a chore much rather than fun.

The problem with online gaming today (moreso on the consoles) is that there is little to no replay value whatsoever. Sure, you get to a certain point where you have everything online, then what do you do? You sit down, practically zombiefied by the television, and rack up kills... but for what? What do people gain out of racking up huge amounts of kills? Is it to satisfy your online reputation... it truly baffles me.

My PS3 and Xbox were sold by me in August, and I've never felt more alive or happier. Honestly, I have done so much more with my life. I am actually thinking about moving on to PC gaming because it offers so much more, there is always something new and exciting to do because of the mods that are developed for games (ie zombie mod for Counter Strike). That is the only form of gaming which could truly satisfy me, now all I need to do is buy a gaming PC.

Honestly, this is my own personal opinion and you can agree or disagree if you choose. I would MUCH rather head downtown with some friends and go hiking/camping/four-wheeling/f ishing compared to sitting down interacting with pixels for hours on end. It's your life, do whatever you choose, but just look at the other side of the coin as well - there are much better things you could be doing, you just need to involve yourself in other activities to find out what you truly like doing. Gaming is a waste of time - always has been, always will be. I wish I realized that sooner.

However, I do understand what I am hearing about it. For me, I liked COD 4: Modern Warfare better because the story allowed me to engage with the Char. better...and the story was a little easier to accept. Anyway, Modern Warfare 2 is great and deserved the score it got.

Aside from the now Infamous "No Russian" scene, I felt like the custom streaks thing should not have been in the game. (People are REALLY camping out now, in multi-player.) I don't care about tbeing informed who got the 1st kill and other annoying stuff that pops up on my screen...which seems much more conjested now. (all of this is not that big a deal, just saying what I do/don't care for) Also, I prefer the Lv. 55 max out for prestige, and early unlock for Carbine, and AK-47. (Don't understand the M16 being so far down the totem pole either.) I still like MP and play the camping. I kept my COD4 game, and still play that also.

Don't get me wrong, it's alright... but a lot of people seem to think that gaming is a great way to relieve stress when there are a lot of other better alternatives, such as going for a nice long walk or reading, or watching a good movie.

Seeing that this is was the most anticipated game this year, and getting to most sales in gaming history in terms of 1st day release. with all these comments.
Do people still think this game deserves GOTY?
i mean seriously the game has not dramatically changed from Cod4, but to tell the truth no game dramatically changes from its prequel. But games make improvements and thats what sequels are for. But you have to look at the game that not only makes improvements but the game that also brings more innovation than its prequel, and it had to be better in every single way. Thats not the case with Mw2, im sure theres people out there that would rather play Cod4, but you can't say that about Uncharted can you? Uncharted 2 is better than U1 in every single has bringing tons of new innovative improvements to it, online, not 2 but 3 player coop in not 1 but 3 different modes. So if you think about it what deserves GOTY in terms of not being better than the other but being better than its prequel.

Im kind of shocked that people feel this way.I mean everyone knew what to expect coming from MW2 MP and singleplayer.I have to admit that Im really enjoying the game alot more then others.I played the other cods and I must admit that this one is by far the better one.The Mp has alot to offer thats new but yes its the same old MP.Not that thats a bad thing,Thats what cod series are known for.If you are looking for something new then you will have to wait because every fps are pretty much going to be the same know matter what you want.It just seems like everyone is looking for the next big thing which will never really happen.

Haven't touched it since. I literally descimated everyone so badly I was like "are they even shooting their guns?" I was level 1 and I was taking down level 30's... easily. The lag is horrendous. I understand damage taking it's time during online matches, but if you empty a clip and your target doesn't even flinch cause from his point of view you aren't shooting, there's a major flaw. Oh well, let the failings of this game be a lesson to all devs from here on out. Dedicated servers or bust! SP was fun tho.

I'm reading these comments about how the game is now boring after less than a week of playing. Are you people playing 72 hours straight or something? I know the generation coming up has an intention span the length of a gold fish but this is ridiculous.

The Campaign is short so they fleshed out the multiplayer, the mode people play 24/7, its the exact same as COD4, the exact same. They added more weapons and perks, equipment, revised point system. They crafted the game to meet the demands of the fans and all i'm reading is complaints.

People are actually complaining about not having enough maps on release, but there is about 20 different game modes. Maps will come, probably next month if they're following the trend of everyone else.

The game is better than the last if you can't see that then maybe you shouldn't be playing these types of games because clearly you have mastered it completely.

Don't know what people expected from a Call of Duty game. IW has done the same thing, which is cool with me. (I bought it for PS3) I also hear people call MW2 a expansion pack..like Halo:ODST. In my opinion, that's not anywhere near the same comparison.

Halo: ODST (Like most halo games) gave the same maps OR DLC of what they called "classics" maps. IW brought out 15 NEW MP maps and the story is new as well. Add in the Spec-opps mode, and this a new...if not better game than Modern Warfare 1. (I heard no one complain abut that.) Anyhow....people complain just to hear their own voice sometimes. NOW, I will say that I don't care for the Kill streaks custom thing, but it's all good anyway. I still enjoy the game as much as COD4: MW 1.

Not because I suck (I got a 2.87 K/D), It's probably because I'm not playing with any of my friends from high school and I'm waiting for them to get it.

They are just making BS excuses why they can't get it because they know I will dominate them.

And i've only owned it for a week. But that's because the graphics are horrific, and the gameplay is absolutely identical to Modern Warfare 1. Even the constant network interruptions have been kept in place. Call me spoiled by Killzone 2, but for god's sakes Infinity Ward, get some dedicated servers in there!

We've been fleeced. Ripped off. Lied to. Modern Warfare 2 was obviously made for the smallest cost possible, and with something like 7 million copies sold, IW and Activision have made boatloads of money. I wish i could demand my money back from those two, not the retailer that i purchased Modern Warfare 2 from.

FPS games have been around for so long now, and all still follow most of the same formula (otherwise it wouldn't be a FPS)

So when I hear people say "best FPS ever" it is like hearing someone say best burger joint ever. Everyone has their favorite, many disagree with which one is best, but ultimately it is pretty much the same menu at every one of those burger joints. It isn't four star dining at any of them either, even if they get an overhyped review.

I have to agree with this article, it is becoming like the same o same o. Like someone said reaching 70 feels like a drag rather then fun as it did in COD 4. I played COD 4 until the day before MW2 was released and MW2 is getting old quick. If it wasn't for most of my friends playing it I would have put this game aside for a bit now I will get back to uncharted.

I disagree with this article. The more the better. If you have all the guns already so quickly, then it gets boring. There is a lot of stuff to do in this game! Special OPS is def fun!!! play all on Veteran it might last you for a while...!
