Destructoid: CoD: Modern Warfare Reflex Review

Other than the SD graphics, variations on multiplayer, and pointer controls, this is still Modern Warfare. It's still the first game in the most popular series that this particular genre has ever seen. Not enough has changed about the game, for better or worse, to make a dent in that.

I'm thinking of buying this, looks like a good game for the wii.

EvilTwin5295d ago (Edited 5295d ago )

80-85 seems about right to me for this game. You HAVE to dock it a certain amount of points for the hit its visuals take, fewer people in multiplayer and the lack of voice chat.

But the brilliance of IW's initial design always shines through, as the reviewer notes -- "Other than the SD graphics, variations on multiplayer, and pointer controls, this is still Modern Warfare." That's a good compliment, considering people didn't think this game could be done on Wii.

If the original was a 95-100, knock off 5 for the visuals, and 2.5 each for the online stuff.

This game is great fun.

The graphics may be worse but I can headshot...while the reduction in maximum players annoys me I'd gladly trade graphics for controls any day. Treyarch did amazingly well with the controls - not as good as the conduit, but much better than their port of Quantum of Solace.

I see your point but honestly I'd dock 10-20 points for dual analog controls on a FPS =D M + K and wiimote give position and velocity while dual analog gives just velocity.

You can prove with calculus that M + K and wiimote are far more accurate using this. Going from position to velocity is an easy derivative you can approximate mentally. Going from velocity to position is a very difficult integral you have no chance to approximate - even worse the end position changes depending on where you start (the +C in your integral equations).

I also don't like how MW2 got completely gimped for pc so I'll stick with this despite the fact I can hook the wiimote up to my computer. IW hates being associated with ports like those treyarch make and personally that's reason enough to buy it.

I agree that voice chat is a substantial flaw for a lot of people in team play. But my GF likes watching the conduit and COD, and talking on wii speak would threaten her acceptance of my hobby. Though it would be awesome if she could sh!t talk people and mock them for being beaten by a girl ;) My only memory of voice chat in team deathmatch was griefers spamming the woody woodpecker theme in UT2004 and that mischief is far too tempting for someone like me. But I can see it being docked for this.

I'm still learning the game so I'm not near conduit skill - never played any COD before. But here's my friend code, I have break next week and hope to see ya online. The conduit one ya gave is invalid (mb only for MW?) but send me one for this and I'll add ya.

oobob -- I PM'ed you my codes. I'm not sure what happened with Conduit. When you get a sec later, hit me back with yours for that. Maybe I entered it wrong.

I am having a HELL of a time adjusting to MWR. I absolutely love it, but it is completely different than Conduit. In TCon, you can leap over someone, do a 180 in midair, and nail a shotgun head shot before you hit the ground. MWR doesn't reward running and gunning that way (as cliche as it is to say, it's a more realistic game). I'm slowly learning the art of lurking. I finally got my kill rate around .9 the night before last.

Voice chat is a bummer...but honestly, with some people, all you hear are homophobic/sophomoric taunts. So it's not as big a loss as it could be, IMO.

The graphics aren't Metroid or Conduit, but they're perfectly serviceable. I can use a light machine gun, aim down the sight and knock someone off from across the map.
Speaking of LMG, have you unlocked the M60E4 yet? My enjoyment of the game went up even more after unlocking that sucker.

I think this is a fair point. Maybe I'm just starting to get a little more charitable in my opinion of DA. But 15% accuracy with DA is nothing to sniff at. I'm only at 10% in MWR, but that's due in large part to making private matches to test my control settings, unloading ammo with no one around.

That said..."sticky" aiming and bullet curving is always going to make some DA FPS games more "accurate."

Why MW 2019 is still the best looking Call of Duty to date

MW 2019 is five years old at this point and on previous gen hardware, but it is still the best looking Call of Duty game to date.

MW was an excellent videogame. They messed up Spec Ops big time, but aside from this it was a huge step in the right direction initially. Most notably, at launch it seemed to come from a very cohesive creative vision that was felt across gameplay, to story to art style/visual direction. It was also very notably written by prominent ex-Naughty Dog guys that quit almost immediately before release.

That COMPLETELY dissolved through post-launch content and the full pivot to a "cross-mode" narrative that completely obliterated the cohesion in overall story direction. Warzone then "became" the new face of Call of Duty and the franchise completely removed itself from anything remotely creatively "good". It is a pure money machine, so I kinda get why they're doing it....but I personally completely lost interest.

I would love to see Infinity Ward move off CoD and get to make their own product with full control. They clearly have some massive talent in their ranks but it's perverted by Activision's corporate interests.

I really hope we get other activision games on GP soon. My dream would be Scarface but I know the license probably expired

P_Bomb305d ago

Love me some Scarface! I even bought the comics. Yeah, licensing would probably be an impasse.

4Sh0w305d ago

hmmm, coincidence? Either way this is a good sign for gamers after the ABK deal.

porkChop305d ago

I played through Scarface again last year and it still holds up. Such a fun game. I would love for Xbox to get the rights back to remaster Scarface and make a sequel. It sold well and they had plans for Scarface 2, 3, and 4. With how long it takes Rockstar to make games the market is wide open.

TheColbertinator305d ago

That game was so much fun. Expected a cheap GTA clone but it was a good drug empire building game.

shinoff2183304d ago

They didn't just have plans but there's actual gameplay out there for scarface 2

neutralgamer1992304d ago

Seriously man we need games like

True crime
Sleeping dogs
Watch dogs( more like original not legion)
And proper saints row

GTA can’t be the only option we need other games

P_Bomb304d ago

@neutral
Gun was Activision as well. Nice open world Wild West there imo.

neutralgamer1992303d ago

Gun is such a underrated game

None of those games had dedicated servers on console in the first place? Were always player hosted. Did something change?

Rutaprkl304d ago

Older cods like Mw, Mw2 and WaW were way better than Call of Dutys nowadays

GoodGuy09304d ago

Make activision remaster mw2 (2009) multiplayer please xbox.
