PC Games Hardware has an interview with Tim Sweeney in which he makes some comments concerning Gears. While the interview is primarily centered around Unreal Tournament 3, Gears fans will find some interesting bits.
Opinion is divided on this one for sure! Is motion blur good for gaming? Why do developers include it?
I hate any game that has motion blur and the first thing I do is switch off the motion blur in games. It just makes me nauseous.
I agree with Alex here, many implementations are terrible but when it is done right it improves the experience.
Alex from GamersFTW writes:
“In all seriousness though, I feel like DOOM’s success will be measured by how much the game has to offer. Graphically it’s looking spectacular, and I’m sure the latest multiplayer trailer caught all of our attention. Personally, the game is beginning to remind me of those late nights playing Unreal Tournament 3, which is totally a good thing. This, in addition to the promise of user-generated content, is making DOOM look like the best first-person shooter I’ve seen in ages.”
The campaign looks brilliant, like a true nostalgia trip to the original DOOM titles of old! The multiplayer equally looks like a trip down memory lane to fast-paced and frantic arena games a-la Quake, and honestly the MP REALLY makes me want to the get game at launch to capitalise on the hype. Problem is I'm not overly fussed with multiplayer typically in games, they can get weary after a while, and buying a game solely for its MP is risky - especially on console - as it's heavily dependant on the community!
Rock to my left, hard place to my right..
EDIT: On the MP note, does anyone know if it'll have bots available, similar to Unreal Tournament 3? I still give that a quick play time to time with bots (and all the mad mutators).
Its basically a "console" ahead, in terms of graphics, of another shooter called Homefront thats getting ready to release. LOL
Great selections as always and they are...
Final Fantasy
Metal Gear Solid
Super Smash Bros.
Crypt of the Necrodancer
Unreal Tournament
Advance Wars
Payday 2
For all those that said that DX10 isn't on the 360, and those that said it does the same but it isn't called DX10 but an own form of API control of the great 360 GPU:
"In Gears of War on Xbox 360, we implemented multisampling using the platform's extended MSAA features. On PC, the solution is to support multisampling only on DirectX 10."
There you have it. It may not be called DX10 fixed, but the own API control does things you can ony do with DX10. Thus, the 360 could maybe even go further in exploring stuff you find in DX10 or might not even be in DX10
EDIT
"Fisher339 - 36 Minutes ago
Who cares just play the damn game and enjoy it "
Well you obviously not, but that's because you are probably a PS3 owner. Which makes me think, would it use multisampling? Because Epic speaks about 360 and PC using it...
It's just interesting, what ever way you try to downplay it. It's that huge, because those lying Sony droids like DJ/LovehateTRAGEDY always are claiming the 360 can't do more then DX9, now you see it does. It's only not called DX10, but it does the same on many parts, if not more then that
URT 3 is going to be sooooooooooo kick @ss. I just hope Epic does a good job on the PS3 version so we do not have PS3 fans belly aching about how lazy they are. o_O
I would also like to get a party system for mach making.
A party system in GOW would have been dank, especially after I figured Halo 2 would have set the standard. It's ridiculously hard to play games with friends sometimes on Gears. So they better fix it in UT3, because I'm probably buying it.
This guy just doesn't quit (TheMART). First one to diss on the PS3. I hope one day you find peace my friend.
hmm, interesting how they will make ut3 run good on PS3. =)
anyway, they already showed UT3 running on PS3 in GDC07, that means, they already done engine, and only some customizations left. :)
