Release of the Week: Dragon Age: Origins

GrE writes, "Nestled in between hits like Uncharted 2, Borderlands, Modern Warfare 2 and Left 4 Dead 2, it is quite possible that you've missed hearing about Dragon Age: Origins. Even if you haven't heard of it, you've probably heard of games such as the instant classics Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, and Mass Effect. These games all come from the RPG masters at BioWare, and Dragon Age: Origins is their next epic tale..."

I gotta say, as excited as I was for Mass Effect from Bioware, this just doesn't do it for me.

Perjoss5306d ago

some people just cant get into 'swords & sandals'.

I guess it's just what you prefer, some prefer the sci-fi, I don't really care myself, as long as we get a good story and fun combat.

Nihilism5306d ago

I don't usually get into medieval style games, but this game does it for me in ways even the mrs can't ;)

bgrundman5306d ago

I would love to see this succeed, but I have seen barely any advertising presence for this game at all. Could it be DOA?

roblef5306d ago

Yeah, hard to tell their game plan. Not seen much besides developer interviews. Hmmm.

Roper3165306d ago

I see a TV commercial a few times a day for this game since about a week ago. MS must have paid for the commercial because it only lists the 360 & PC as the platforms for the game.

Taco_Waffle5306d ago

Yesterday during NFL games I saw commercials for this game about 10 times. Advertising is definitely out there for it.

I'm not sure what to think about this one. It could be the one that redefines the fantasy RPG space, or completely mediocre.

Montrealien5306d ago

redefine? never. What this game does well is that it authentic. And that`s why I love it.

nycredude5306d ago

Montrealien

Hey can you help me here. Give me some insight into this game since you are playing it already. I'm on the fence and could use some help. FYI I loved Mass Effect, although it had some issues. I also love a good story in games. Is this worth getting? Some details would be nice. Thanks!

Montrealien5306d ago

I don`t know what else to say about this to help you understand it other then say that if you enjoyed Kotor, Jade empire or Mass effect, you should truly enjoy this game. It`s alot like their previous console games, but in a fantasy setting. And as I said, it is a very authentic straight forward mature fantasy story, think Lord of the rings but with sex and violence.

The reviews should start coming in and you will be able to read up on it alot more, but I can say with full confidence that if you are looking for a good bioware western rpg, look no further, you will have hours of pleasure with this game.

nycredude5306d ago

Thanks man. I'm going to pick it up tonight then. Can't wait. I was excited about the game before but disappointed I haven't seen more info about it.

I bet this will be a big hit with the old Baldur's Gate fans of old.

darkroomdemons5306d ago

Except only the PC version employs the easter egg of the Baulder's Camera. Fail!

Julie5306d ago (Edited 5306d ago )

I was considering watching the trailer for it last night. Maybe now I will. I'm kinda still on the fence.

Julie5306d ago

I saw a lot of videos , it looks nice won't be a bad game but i believe it is a bit short :(

GentleGiant5306d ago

Most reviews so far say it is at least 80 hours and even more than that if you really get into it. :) And then you must of course try out the other classes and back story´s.

Julie5306d ago

80 hours! nice ty for the info , i am happy then! i wish to see Minsc and Boo in there to be completely crazy hehe =)

How'd fallout not make the list. Atleast over cyberpunk, tales , and halo. Fallout been around since what 96 98 and has 5 6 games into it. It's full of lore when you play it. I'd even add star ocean to a point.

robtion499d ago

Agree Fallout should be on there.

MadLad499d ago

And somehow Planescape Torment doesn't even make the list.

Crows90499d ago

Hollow knight surpasses these.

shinoff2183499d ago

In lore? I must be missing something

Crows90499d ago (Edited 499d ago )

Yes in lore. Easily missed... absolutely. Never played a game that had me loving the world and lore behind it as much as that one. Most of course wouldn't be able to experience it since it is a more difficult game.

DarXyde499d ago

I can't speak for all titles on this list, but by the time you get to Dark Souls III, the lore is a bloody tapestry of intricacy

Crows90498d ago

Played them all. Im not saying the games on the list dont have good lore...I just think hollow knight had more lore that is hidden but present and more easily explored and accessed. The souls games have tremendous lore but theyre mostly hidden and stay that way unless you look for it and research it. The lore is not very accessible.

DarXyde498d ago

Crows90,

I think that's a somewhat fair assessment. For me, the Souls games are less upfront about the lore, but it does invite your fascination through NPCs, items, locations, bosses, etc. There's this kind of natural progression where the picture becomes just clear enough by doing the essential tasks, but it really makes you want to explore every inch of the world.

TheColbertinator499d ago

Suikoden and Legend of Heroes also have massive lore setups.

agent13499d ago

narration is more important than lore i'd rather watch the story and characters in a more cinematic way instead of searching for notes and stuff that's why i love sony exclusive games like uncharted and gow and hate from software games

shinoff2183498d ago

The article was top ten lore in video games. I think they did a bad job picking games out. I know what you mean though. I just like a variety of games and genres.
