It's a fairly narrow and specific genre, but in the last two generations of electronic entertainment, they have become a staple of my gaming diet. When I thought of all of the poor souls that only had access to the Nintendo Wii, and could not share my love of games like Phantasy Star Online and Demon Souls, I openly wept for them. That is why I was ecstatic to hear that Valhalla Knights: Eldar Saga was coming to the Wii to fit the void, but by the end, I found myself crying once again for the tragic Nintendophiles that would see this as their intro into one of my favorite game-types."
Digitally Downloaded writes: "Often the Wii was criticised for its perceived lack of quality third party games to play, but it's not the case at all. The Wii had some excellent third party games to play, it's just that some of them required a little digging to get to."
This series is destined to be quickly forgotten in the west (it actually has a strong niche in Japan), which is a pity, because there’s a lot to like about these games. They're not for everyone, but JRPG fans looking for something a little different would do well to try these out.
Neocrisis: Continuing a bumper year of releases, Rising Star Games has confirmed Eldar Saga's 2010 release date as 17th September. The game will fill a niche in the current games climate by appealing to Wii owners who are interested in the RPG format.
