The PS3 isn't far behind the PS2 in sales at this time, and is way ahead of where the PS1 was at this time, and we all know how well the PS1 and PS2 did. Sony has this in the bag, because they're very smart and I don't want to underestimate Microsoft or Nintendo, but Sony really is set up for a win.

Call me crazy, but they did when those pics of a supposed 80 gig PS3 SKU first surfaced, I said it was real, and they laughed. Turns out it was real and I'm lmao now at them.

The Lastest firmware update made the machine more of what they promised as far as having a central entertainment hub.

Now all we need is games to go along with the system.

And Bam!!!! sales will pick up.

They've been crap...nothing like marketing/advertising crews used for the Ps2.

Although a price cut will obviously result in increasesd sales, what will really get those black boxes flying off the shelves will be quality games that'll have people just wanting to play.

2008 will be the year that the Ps3 finally catches up and starts to pull ahead.

I don't underestimate Microsoft or Nintendo and i own all 3 consoles but imo Sony really is set up for a win. I mean even before gamers day i felt this way do to the steps they have taken to future proof the PS3 it might not show now but it will in the future then after gamers day it just convinced me even more of my opionion. There are quite a few games that i want for my 360 and Wii this year but it seems like sony is bringing new things to the table (Folklore, Pain, LittleBigPlanet, Home, Eye of Judgement and all the Playstation Eye abilities and Singstar) Those are just a few titles to name that imo set Sony apart from the others. And E3 hasn't even hit yet. I'm not saying Microsoft and Nintendo won't bring their big guns to E3 but i'm mostly looking forward to everything sony has to offer. Thats how i feel about it.

PS3 is doing better then PS1 - PS2 and even 360 when it was at this stage -

xbox has what 10million sold in almost 2 years - PS3 is what close to 4 million with hardly any games - mark my words when i say that lead of MS wont last long - i expect 8-9 million by end of the year

360 didn't do much its first year. everything changed for the better when Gears came out. otherwise, its pretty much the same path that the ps3 is currently following.

2007 game line-up and E3 2007?, I sure people exspect MS to show off some goods. Who knows its clear this is what people are ralking about looking at PS3 sale's figures and what i mentioned above. Launch hype is gone.

Better judgement by Sony on costs - it's true we can't all afford a PS3 unless they cut down the price, the sooner the better. On games - before the reasoning was most of the public mistook the PS3 as more of a Blu-Ray movie player than a games console, at least now it's the other way around. On the sixaxis control pad - this is only minor problem?, but now that things have been finally settled rumble will have it's return. On all those negativity surrounding the PS3 - The blame all lies in their marketing/advertising staffs ( and some of their fanboys/girls who are acting the same way... ) all over the globe, for coming-out with a lot of over-hyped statistics and misleading information.

Agreed!, people are talking about Halo 3 and the defect rate of the 360 so its generally used to piss off 360 owners in some fashion. I don't know if this PS3 issue is widely being talked about or if 360 fans are finally doing what PS3 fans have been doing sence i joined this site but i guess people really think you can't push game consoles well over half a grand with no available sofware as of yet. People keep saying PS3 needs a price-cut more than they talk about needing sofware because all three consoles will be coming out with scores of titles. personally I think people were looking for an excuse to move on and the Trend and popular opinion has simply changed out of PS3's favor. People waited(millions) just incase the PS3 was 3X more powerful when it launched and i think the Wii and the 360 was chosen as the new gamer trends.(Wiimote, XBL)

It is way too early to judge which console is better. PS3 isn't even out for a year yet. I think PS3 will win in the long run.

1) Get plenty of games.

We know there are many exclusives coming this holiday season... so there's just one final thing Sony needs to do.

2) Lower the price to nothing more than $400 bucks. Anything more than that is suicide.

Will it be expensive for Sony? Sure. By then the components would have gone down in price a lot of course. So the loss could still be less, even when selling it at 400 by then. If there's anything to go buy, they should simply see it as a "re-launch" period, where they need to make a massive investment (take losses). Surely a 200 price drop and plenty of games for the holiday season, plus many services including Home and VOD could be advertised as a PS3 re-launch.

By holiday 2008 there could be another price drop to 300. Once they reach 300, they're all set. I don't think 300 would be too much to ask even if it's a 2 year old system. People get it does a lot more than just gaming, and at 299 they might just give it more of a try.

Besides, the loss is actually worth more than Microsoft's loss on the first Xbox, since they have more first party studios to benefit from, and of course, a format war to win. Microsoft had very few first party games so of course they couldn't have recouped then. Microsoft wasn't also positioning any video format with its previous console.

i really don't understand all this bs. the ps3 is out since march 23rd (i'm in germany) - that's just 2 months so what's the problem? the 360 launch line-up was really boring and the advertising sucked, too.

even the Nintendo DS had a slow start with no good games at all - and look at it now.

give it a chance. wait 1 year or 2 and everything will be fine. and hopefully we will all live in peace and play our Wii's, 360's and PS3's without bashing other systems ... that would be nice.

Here are the facts:

Yes, PS3 sales are on par with those of the PS1 and PS2 but you forget to mention the most important parts. PS1 was a new system to the market with little buzz when it came out. Once people started hearing word of how much better and cost effective it was then the N64, sales finally picked up. And yes, the N64 was the only real competition that generation and Nintendo pretty much eliminated there selves that generation with horrible mistakes!!

The PS2 came into the market with more buzz then any system has ever had. It’s only competition at that time was Sega, and don’t kid yourself, Sega was already doomed for failure. The numbers of sales were only low because Sony could not keep up with demand, obviously shrinking sales numbers. They didn’t have demand till well after Christmas of the following year!!

The PS3 is the total opposite! Even with strong supply available since about two weeks after launch, there is NO demand!! 80,000 units last month?!?! And if you think that’s bad, wait till this months figures come out!!!! Expect sales to be around 50,000 with no games available. PS3 is also finally facing some strong competition playing on a level playing field. Consumer finally have viable options and are voting against Sony with there wallets.

And for everyone saying wait for the games?! You are the same people who said wait till Motorstorm comes out!!! That did absolutely nothing to help out. Face it; most people have no clue what Liar, Heavenly Sword, Little Planet or those games are so they will not push consoles. Only true games that can help push consoles are mass market games such as Madden, Grand Theft Auto, Metal Gear, Final Fantast and maybe Killzone. And sadly Madden and Grand theft Auto will be available on the more cost effective 360 with better graphics since the developers are using the 360 as the lead console for those games. Metal Gear and Final Fantasy? Well those games are not due till late 2008 and there is still that pesky rumor that they might be multi platform. Killzone? I expect it to be a GREAT game, but part 1 was hyped to be great too and it was pretty bad. People will remember that and will make people leery when it goes head to head with the monster that is Halo.

And last but most importantly: PRICE!!!!!!!!!
$600???? Are you insane!!!! And a price drop will only cripple Sony even more as Microsoft will counter with one as well putting there core system at the $200 sweet spot for the mass market.

I’m sorry, but it’s time to face the reality. The PS3 was a Horrible mistake!!!!! I too was once a Sony fanatic but was smart enough to realize doom before it came. Is it time for you too???
