I have been saying this for a while now... ever since the price increase announced in EU.

I can understand that some people just wont be able to help themselves and some have no will of their own, but if your not happy with it, even if you give it a week or two and then get the game it will still be making a difference.

With the number of other great games out, I am sure we could all find other games to play for a good week or two.

The only reason the game is going to fly of the shelves is because "we" are buying them... if we don't they will sit right on that shelf.

sure a lot of casual gamers who don't follow this stuff will prob still pick it up, but it does not hurt to tell people. I sent a message to all my friends on live about the price increase and you would be surprised at the number of people who got back to me because they didn't know about it and are now not buying the game.

I love cod4 and was really, really looking forward to MW2, but I am that f-ed off that I am only going to get it pre-owned or not at all.

It took a little more than 1 year for PC Modern Warfare to get first discount (30 on steam) but even then it was only for a weekend, and it got permanent discount just not too long ago. seeing how c0cky activision is with MW2 that they increased the price, i expect them to do a first discount in about a year, and permanent price cut in about 2 years.. that is unless people wake the fk up and do something about it before game comes out.

Most of the PC CoD community is playing pirated copies anyway...why should IW care that a fractional piece of the 5% of their paying base (that's right...legitimate PC copies make up well under 10% of their base, and yes that's including digital ditributions) that plays the PC version actually boycotts it? Even a relatively successful boycott would still only knock out maybe .5% of their sales at most.

This is really just a problem for PC gamers. Considering that there will only be a couple hundred thousand PC gamers who actually buy it and the other thousands or millions who download a copy illegally, I don't think the petition will do much.

Look at it this way, would you put the time and money into having dedicated servers when only 10% of PC gamers actually bought the game and everyone else is getting to play it for free? If you say yes to that, you just hate activision. From a business stand point, that's not a healthy investment!

You can only do so many things for free before you start to wonder where your compensation is coming from. These companies have to make money. You may think they are making money, but there is alot to consider.

They have to pay their workers, fund their next projects, compensate for the losses on crap games they released, etc. and don't forget... the fat bonuses for their CEO's.

In other words, the games industry is all screwed up right now, and will only get worse. Lets just enjoy what we have and hope for the best.

1) You never run out of online games to play with your friends. There's just too many great FPS out there to play instead of MW2

It's different when they're taking away something that's been a fundamental aspect of multiplayer gaming for many years. And then charging more, for no reason, because that extra $10 on the console version is a licensing fee to the console makers, but PC is an open platform. Obviously they have the right to charge whatever they want for their product, but as consumers (not PC gamers, but just consumers in general) we also have the right to flip them off and vocalize how unreasonable they're being. Also I'd be careful sh!t talking the PC, because the game in your avatar wouldn't exist for any platform without PC gaming.
Besides, if you're getting it on a console, its not like a PC boycott will damage the console user base in any way. Live and let live, and let PC users fight for the colorful community they've built up for themselves.

Whatever platform you game on sooner or later developers/publishers are going to try and make big changes that you as a gamer will not agree with or be happy with and the bigger the games industry gets the more this is going to happen.

These sort of decisions may not have hit the console market yet but rest assured they are coming and will appear completely out of the blue just as PC gamers have unfortunately found out.

The only response is to vote with your wallets (especially when dealing with companies who take other people's work and repackage it as their own *cough* MW2 *cough*).

that message will be sent to game makers all over the world, if you want to control your product and maximize profit then focus on the console.

The PC Gaming Alliance, sponsored by Microsoft, Epic Games, and plenty of other devs, did a wide study and found (last year) that there are over 250 million PC Gamers ONLINE ONLY (not including SP) worldwide. Compete with that. The PC is a viable platform for everyone, and it has many more owners than consoles - Bejewled, for example, has sold 25 million. That is phenomenal.

Any business that ignores a market is a poorly run business. I am a console gamer and a pc gamer but i am getting sick of these console only gamers voicing nonsense like they understand what is going on. Don't be ignorant. Do some research and understand why us pc gamers that support game developers with our hard earned money want in order to have a multiplayer experience. I recently bought dragon rising. It does not have dedicated servers and it is virtually unplayable. It has way too much lag that is bogging the experience down. Therefore this will also happen in MW2 so unfortunately i will not be purchasing the game. We as pc gamers just want to be able to play a game lag free. I can seriously see the problem here and to be blunt, you must NOT buy this game. I myself am not a PC gamer(I stick to my PS3), but if i was i know full well id be just as pissed. Infact i am and it's not because of the dedicated servers but the price. Having Paid £40 for CoD4 i was very pleased, it's a great game. To pay even more though for basically the same game in a different package is ridiculous. I just bought Uncharted 2 for the same £40 i have been paying since getting my Ps3(ecluding pre-owned games) and i'm very pleased to say Activision can piss off. I wont be paying loads of cash for a newer version of a game i already have and enjoy. Plus with U2 and Soon to own Arkum Asylum, i'm set for the rest of the year. Just hope Demon Souls gets a EU release soon and ill be set for even longer.

I think though that this boycott has some stable ground on the argument, it has been a staple for PC gamers to have dedicated servers, if IW just took away the service and nothing else I don't think it would be such an uproar, but on top of taking this feature away IW/AV increased the price for the PC which is basically a huge middle finger to the PC community. I also think this is an opportunity for gamers(whether PC,360,PS3) to send AV(bobby kotick specifically) a message that we as gamers are not going to take this kind of crap from a gaming company. Usually the number one rule of business is the customer is always right, but lately AV is telling the customer how its going to be and that we have no power to change that. Honestly though I would rather just buy BF:BC2 because it actually works to satisfy us the customer not the other way around.

Just because we have always had servers does not make it an entitlement. Matchmaking through a backbone has some advantages, and some disadvantages. Certain games do it really well, Halo 3 on the 360 has a pretty solid system for matchmaking across the backbone while not interfering with your ability to meet your friends online. I can see where dedicated servers will be missed in certain exclusive community's, but for most gamers I think its going to make online gaming a little easier to approach, and I think that's mostly a good thing. Let Infinity Ward release it, lets take a look at it and see what they deliver, if we don't like it we can refuse to purchase, we can beat them up for how much it stinks then, but honestly until we see their implementation we have no idea what kind of experience it is going to provide gamers.
