To an extent, I get what they are saying. Trying to play WaW (cut me some slack, it came free with my video card) was sometimes frustrating as sometimes the servers would be filled with mods. Now I'm used to Valve games where modded servers download the mods right then and there and I don't even have to alt-tab.

Maybe IW should allow that instead of me having to alt-tab go download this mod and blah blah. Oh and do away with Punk Buster, seriously. I have a better chance of getting into a server with hacks than I do without them. My issue is that thanks to Steam's auto updates I find incredibly annoying to have to go manually update something as simple as the anti-cheat system, let alone the game itself. Why all PC games don't have an auto update system is beyond me. Even low quality mods on steam update automatically for the most part.

Oh and IW I'll give you another hint. Most PC gamers didn't avoid the game because of skill or tight rules. They avoided your game because it's pretty mediocre compared to a lot of other PC games.

Dedicated servers allow players to customize their games and have clans. Clan servers, and set up scrims (matches against other clans)..

You cannot have a clan without dedicated servers, and without clans and organization the game is NOTHING BUT AN ARCADE SHOOTER.

Having dedicated servers allows the player to choose WHAT map he plays, WHO he plays with, and HOW LONG he plays.

Matchmaking is for noobs.

No serious FPS gamer plays a matchmaking game for more than a week.

Custom maps, custom weapon skins, custom clans, custom servers.

I think it's kind of funny that IW won't budge. It cracks me up listening to all these PC cry-babies who won't be able to mod and cheat now (which is about half of the whiners, the other half are might actually care about the clan and customization part of it.) It's amusing that you'll put forth the energy to even start an online petition over something so trivial. Us console gamers always get to hear about how great your games are in the first place, so why do you care about a port? Let's face it, for Modern Warfare, console was king. It would not be that much of a loss for IW to cut out all PC sales on MW2. Instead of worrying about dedicated servers, now they can spend more effort cleaning up any issues that arise on the console. Maybe they'll even skip the PC version altogether next time, using that extra bit of time to make the future console versions that much better. I don't know a single person that plays console ports on a PC anyway. All the PC gamers I know stick to WOW, RPG's, and RTS's. The PC edition of Modern Warfare made up under 10% of its sales. It only appearred more-so due to piracy. The sad part is had people NOT pirated the original MW so pervasively, the PC crowd would actually HAVE more sway. You effectively pirated away your relevancy to IW.

First there was the EU console price hike for MW2-IW said nothing when they easily could have distanced themselves from it.

Counter-strike was a mod... no one is complaining of the 1,000's of active players

Nor are the 100's of dedicated servers on 1942 which ptovide 24 hours lag free connection

These servers can provide some hack free enviroments... I expect to see the PC to have mini hacks, which are parely noticable but make a huge difference to the games.

The PC is alive because of mods and tuners and custom maps and modes... games last like a year on console with active players... but on PC a good game will have 100's of players for years.

Games never get outdated but the support does die away... You could remake CS using Cryteck is someone had the time etc. Check out the L4D mods.

Infact more people will pirate just to get some version they can play online under their own things. By forcing IW.net has no effect on pirates.

If this game supports lan I'm pretty sure it can be tricked into online lan, it's been done on the PSP for years.

I also doubt community servers can work, which provide so much more enjoyment. Website would provide servers with passwords and hackers get abnned from the server and the site... this provides the ideal gaming situation, where loads of friends on skype, COD 4 website server and just having fun.

i never planned on buy or playing MW2. but as a PC gamer im disgusted at how this situation is being handled. i support their cause and outrage 100% if it aint broke, dont fix it. p2p and matchmaking models do not work, and never have. MM works for L4D but L4D has a server browser, mod support, and dedicated servers.

i feel for all the fans of the series expecting what they were told back in September, "the MP for MW2 will be like it always has". then this crap tornado hit them.

because this is their new model, doesnt mean the consumers cant voice their opinion and try as they might to get IW to reconsider. part of the reason pc gamers set up their own server is so they dont have to rely on IW to punish cheaters. If there is a hacker on the server, or someone being racist or obnoxious the server admins can just kick them out, without having to wait for IW to get around to fixing the problems.

Imagine if valve dropped support for dedicated servers, they would loose half their fanbase.

I've been reading n4g for quite awhile now, but nothing has really got under my skin to warrant a post up until now, p2p on a PC fps game, where ping is everything? They are crazy... Console fanboys listen...IW doesnt even have to buy the dedicated servers, the players do...they are out no money what-so-ever. Now they are going to make mine and other PCs the server host, which opens up about 100,000 thousands of problems that the community is going to rage over.

The host will need to have a decent clean connection, that means your gf/wife/friends/brother/sister /roomate/parents that you may share a connection with is going to screw up the server when they browse myspace.

It means that if the hosts computer lags for a little bit everyone is probably going to find another server.

If the host rage quits, the game is over for everyone.

It will be much easier to cheat for the host, those saying otherwise have no clue. If you look at lag exploiting on xbox 360 games, then you think about the potential for similar exploits on a pc which is an infinitely more open platform - the cheats are going to absolutely ruin the game.

say good bye to lots of people on a server, your typical home internet connection can't handle this.

I could go on and on, but it all boils down to the fact that your going to be spending more time finding games to play then you are playing them, and when you do, if its possible try to identify the host and don't kill him it will only make him quit.

Why in the world is MP gaming the only gaming that anyone wants to do anymore? I remember a day when MP gaming was taking turns on the controller to play SP levels.
