Halo Waypoint detailed, captured on video

With the Xbox 360 Fall Dashboard update preview kicking off today, Microsoft dropped some more details on Halo Waypoint, the Dashboard playpen for the Master Chief enthusiasts among you. The preview video – found after the break – walks you through some of the destination's functionality, notably the "career system" which will track "in-game accomplishments across multiple Halo games." Unsurprisingly, that career will be limited to the Xbox 360-released Halo games: Halo 3, Halo Wars, Halo 3: ODST, and "all Game Add-on content for those titles."

Halo Waypoint is being developed collaboratively by Microsoft's internal Halo studio, 343 Industries, and Certain Affinity, the Austin-based developer (with some former Bungie staffers) behind Age of Booty. Waypoint will be available November 5 for both Xbox Live Gold and Silver members; however, come November 26 those Silver members will have to pony up for Live if they want to keep their Waypoint access. That's a solid three weeks to determine if the exclusive Waypoint offerings – like the Nov. 7. preview of the "Halo Legends" anime anthology – are worth it.

its pretty much the same as Bungie.net but on your dashboard. MS way of avoiding the "why dont you have a browser?" is to just fill its dashboard with popular and some useless sites like they are currently doing.

Microsoft DOES have a browser.....it's currently on VERSION 8. 0_o Their reasoning behind not having a browser on the 360 is quite simple...and obvious...unless you're an idiot. If the 360 did EVERYTHING a PC....running Windows....could do, what do you think that would do to their PC market share?

Besides, REAL gamers....as in 360 owners...don't WANT a browser on their console. Marketplace is fully functional as it is, because of the ingenious menu system...which will only be further enhanced by Natal tech....because it requires minimal input. A browser doesn't fit that mold, and therefore doesn't fit with MS's vision for the XBOX platform.

Didnt realize Waypoint was going to be this in-depth. I can see Halo fans jumping back into all the games just to boost their career stats through Waypoint now. It also is incentive for new Halo fans to play the entire series of games. I love that they included Halo Wars into the the stat tracking.

And I thought the Bungie website was amazing when it tracked every game, but this will continue to unite the ridiculously big fanbase.

Milk it up! They should keep this stuff off the Dashboard. I hate having all the ads as it is. They should create a new area to fill this stuff with. NXE is more flash and ads than NASCAR. As a non Halo fan, it would be nice for once to not see the 680p Hypefest all over the dashboard.
