Calling All Cars Servers To Be Shutdown

Looks like starting January 14, 2010 Calling All Cars Servers will be offline for good. An in-game message breaks the bad news. At least we can still play this game offline, it is a blast.

there were some really good hardcore players.. but yeah.. at least we'll be able to play offline with my friends, which for those who haven't played the game it's really fun to play offline..

MEsoJD5310d ago

my first psn purchase along time ago. Shame that the servers are being

shut down but I doubt you can find a match online these days.

Syronicus5310d ago

Had a blast playing this game back when it was released. Too bad the servers must come down but when nobody is playing it... Then there is no reason to even bother with the servers. The game is officially dead online.

Shadow Flare5310d ago

This was a brilliant game. One of my best memories was winning a game online against 3 others driving completely in reverse

NegativeCreepWA5310d ago

I tried to tell people this would happen eventually on PSN. This why I pay for Live. As long as Live is around games will always be playable no matter how old they are, except EA games.

SprSynJn5310d ago

I doubt that Microsoft keeps every game server operational despite it not being played. Have they made a promise to their customers stating so? If not, then I wouldn't count on them not shutting down servers in the future.

creeping judas5310d ago

XBL is peer to peer, therefore there are no servers for MS to shut down.

I wish PSN had an option for P2P.

Alcohog5310d ago

Most PS3 games have dedicated servers these days, jacko.

twoheadedturtle5310d ago

First off, I went online in that game a few times in the past couple months. There would be 0 to 2 people online max. Shutting down the servers might effect like 100 people tops in the entire world lol. And why would I pay Live to use my bandwith? I agree Sony should allow the p2p as an OPTION though.

likedamaster5310d ago

Further proof that if you ain't sucking on Sony's tit you make it on that platform.

NegativeCreepWA5310d ago (Edited 5310d ago )

I don't care if only two people are online at a time I own this game and now I fell like it would pointless to keep it on my HDD. Just so you know P2P servers still use matchmaking servers to connect players. Calling All Cars didn't even use dedicated servers.
Judas you have no clue what your talking about.

What are you people going say when its a game you actually care about?

JoySticksFTW5309d ago (Edited 5309d ago )

Am I the only one who got a little nervous when logging into Demon's Souls to see that disclaimer that servers could be shut down Spring 2010 should Atlus decide?

It freaks me out a bit to know that the DS experience as I know it - Blue Phantom help, Black Phantom break-ins, helpful player messages, and instant health boosts via players recommending you messages - could end as early as next year. DS offline is not the same game.

I might actually pay to play DS online -- whether for dedicated servers, or a cheaper price for match-making servers and P2P gaming.

Now I only have a 360 silver account. I don't need a gold as all of my friends own PS3's and the online gaming is free. Suddenly paying for the privilege to play Demon's Souls online would make me a hypocrite.

And if I'd pay for one game, uh oh...

Enter the PSN Platinum member account. Only $25 - $50 dollars a year

Dangerous stuff...

Now, I realize that if Demon's Souls servers shut down - it would be later than sooner. And considering DS is getting amazing reviews and the game is selling more copies than Atlus anticipated, I'm even willing to bet that the servers won't shut down until Demon's Souls successor comes along. But it does make you think...

NegativeCreepWA5309d ago

I never read the disclaimer on DS, I really hope they don't shut them down that soon its great of a game.

I will sell my ps3.lol last time i checked there was nobody online. so it's a good thing they are shutting down the servers.

callahan095310d ago

Hmm. Never played it online, but I still have a blast with it offline from time to time. This was a very fun game.

TheMART5310d ago

hahaha this is what happens with free PSN... Games get shut down. Before it was with PS2 games like MGS3, now already started on PS3 titles. NICE!

Halo 2 is still online playable on XBL, as all other XBOX 1 games that have online.

So whats next? Warhawk? Resistance?

saint_john_paul_ii5310d ago (Edited 5310d ago )

http://www.gamespot.com/xbo...

yea about that.

certain games get shut down all the time due to their unpopularity Mart.

heres another one:

http://www.wired.com/gameli...

BTW calling all cars doesnt have a big online community such as Resistance or Warhawk.

@thereapersson

He makes Europeans look really dumb.

thereapersson5310d ago (Edited 5310d ago )

I know you have to be kidding; you just HAVE to be trolling this zone with that comment. There's no way you could be that dumb, right?

edit:

Every country in the world contains dumb people; It's the nature of humans, after all.

TheTeam065310d ago

I really don't think you can be that... uhh... "unsmart".

Halo 2 is online because that's all anyone used to play on Xbox Live. It's still very active, so why would they shut it down. Warhawk and Resistance is still very active, meaning those will stay online for a while.

PLAYstar5310d ago (Edited 5310d ago )

mart mart mart, it is about time you jump out of that dusty stinky box and experience what is true gaming.

TheMART5310d ago

@ the dudes above

Saying Halo 2 is still online because its very active... So why is for example PGR2 also still online, it isn't the most active community on a game ever you know.

@ pope

You had to search hard, very hard for some games that didn't have own servers online anymore like Phantasy Star online, right?

Calling all Cars was said to be Jaffe's next great game, after he left the God of War team. So... Its not dumb at all. Its a pretty recent game and because every gamedeveloper runs its own servers on every online game, its more likely to get shut down because its not viable for them anymore.

While XBL overall is an independent system and has just a few like Phantasy Star Online that run their own servers in the background that get shut down because the games are pretty sh!tty also and not bought and played a lot.

For PSN its more likely that games get shut down soonish, 3 years after its launch for certain games that are on the market for years and aren't so populair anymore, but still played by decent amount of people. Its just a fact, and Pope you can make it seem dumb, but it is reality, you just like to close your eyes and make this fact looks invalid while it doesn't. Get your act straight.

thereapersson5310d ago (Edited 5310d ago )

There's no way that those two games (for example, obviously) would be shut down any time soon. Calling All Cars' online mode has been rather dead for a while, and it doesn't make sense to support something that only draws a rare few players every so often, does it?

Both Warhawk AND the first Resistance BOTH garner great numbers to this very day. Then again, you wouldn't know anything about those games, considering you don't play them. You might own a PS3, but your ability to form an opinion on anything PS3-related should be considered a huge freaking joke.

saint_john_paul_ii5310d ago (Edited 5310d ago )

more excuses mart?

right, my eyes are closed. its no wonder I've havent achieved any big milestone at the Vatican...

heres a good question for you mart, if these PS games get shut down in 3 years time, tell me why the Socom games on the PS2 hasnt experienced such a thing yet.

felidae5310d ago

they should shut YOU down!

you're a sad human being.

every now and then i check TheMART's profile to see his comments and everytime it's nothing but fanboy sh1t.

The online literally had no lag, and everyone was so damn skilled at the game.

I still play this from time to time. It's a shame that the online portion of the game will be nixed forever. At least there is local co-op; it's a shame, however, that none of my friends are as good as I am at the game (lol).

Five Digital PlayStation Games You Need to Play Before they Are Gone

Alex S. from Link Cable Gaming writes: "Before Sony shuts down these stores, we wanted to give you a chance to grab the gems that will be lost forever. Here are five PlayStation games you need to play before they are gone forever."

Some of these digi titles need to be converted to run on ps5 games like the last guy will be gone now

PitbullMonster1117d ago

You can still play The last guy on PSNow.

PitbullMonster1117d ago

Btw. Same goes to Echochrome.

Mulando1117d ago

In bad 720p streaming quality + we don't know how long Sony will allow PS3 titles on PSNow.
After all (and as far as it is known) they still use PS3 hardware for PS3 games. I really hope they use an emulator nowadays, but I don't think so.

Teflon021116d ago

Mulando don't know if you've used Now but games like that run fantastic lol. Playing Locoroco remastered looks damn near exactly the same as downloading. I know because I've played on my PC streamed plenty of times and you don't get a single artifact or feel delay. It really just depends on the title. Those ones are fine

cammers19951117d ago

This is really sad that the store is closing. Fuck Jim Ryan.

LiViNgLeGaCY1117d ago

Seriously. He needs to go ASAP.

Viking_mo1117d ago

The sheer audacity for him to say no one plays old games. What an idiot

Mr Logic1116d ago

Or...he's correct. They have telemetry, they can see how often people play old games. You people need to understand that if you go on N4G, reddit, FB groups, etc. to talk about games or keep up with games, then you are the hardcore of the hardcore and you makeup a tiny, TINY portion of the gaming public.

None of that is to say that I agree with taking down the stores or support Sony not doing BC for PS1-3.

343_Guilty_Spark1116d ago (Edited 1116d ago )

But N4G PS gamers says people don't...only new exclusives matter

senorfartcushion1117d ago

Jim Ryan and Herman Hulst sounds like The Death Twins.

Snookies121117d ago

I really wish we got a Tokyo Jungle sequel with a bit more budget to it. That game was so unique.

Fun PSN games for less than a buck

The Steam Sale may have been the hot topic this past week, but it’s not the only place to go for some sweet deals on some great games. The PlayStation Network has its fair share of bargains too. The recent PSN Store update for America may have been a bit lackluster on new content, but the discounts are worth checking out.
