'Ballad' is the game GTA IV Should Have Been

From Xboxist: "'The Ballad of Gay Tony' will bring back some of the ingredients that were missing from GTA IV, a game that fans felt derailed from the spirit of the original series. This DLC is the game we should have gotten and what GTA IV should have been in the first place."

swingingape5311d ago

Interested but not enough to buy day 1. I'll wait till they release a GOTY version with all the DLC.

tinman_licks5311d ago

GTA IV sucked. Loved GTA 3. Was so fun playing it drunk with friends. Can't believe GTA IV was so boring. And now DLC called Gay Tony? I'll pass.

Sarcasm5311d ago

"I'll wait till they release a GOTY version with all the DLC. "

They are releasing a standalone disc with both the DLC's for $40 and you don't even need GTA IV to run it.

Or I think that's what I heard from gametrailers.

And there's no more DLC after that. Rockstar needs to work on Agent and other titles now.

ReservoirDog3165311d ago

It is being released on a disk called episodes from liberty city and you don't need GTA IV to run it. It's out in a couple of weeks.

On topic though, if gay tony got released instead of Niko's story I'm sure it would've been more fun. But I'm almost certain it would not be on my top 5 list. A great story is really important to me and there are few stories as powerful as Niko's.

Anyways, looking forward for episodes from liberty city. Couldn't play the L&tD since I got the PS3 of GTA IV.

Jaces5311d ago

Woot!

Pre-ordered mine awhile back, can't wait!

N4G king5311d ago (Edited 5311d ago )

sorry but a DLC's is still not on the same bar with a full games

its just an xboxfan-website thats trying to hype things up

MazzingerZ5311d ago

Yeah right, DLC is actually the real GTAIV...it's cheaper, took less development time and "only" on X360...I'll wait for the GOTY Bluray instead

rockleex5311d ago

Or Agent. Whichever one comes first.

jammy_705311d ago

gta 5 will be out on ps4 and 720, so the agent i'll be 1st lol
the nxt gta needs to be more like san andreas, that was SOOOOO good!!!

njr5310d ago

I completely agree with the title. It's all about the freedom to do literally anything that made me like GTA in the first place. GTAIV without the DLC is really... restricted. If they brought back many of the things San Andreas had (which im hoping Ballad will do), no one would hate it.

I would much rather them bring back GTA as it was less realistic. (And no phone calls from people wanting to hang out with you every moment of the day please!)

Does anyone want to play a game called Gay Tony? Didn't think so...

FiftyFourPointTwo5311d ago

Gay Tony? Whats that? Another expansion flop? All I care about is a masterpiece called Agent.

5311d ago
kevinx10005311d ago

you don't think sales > quality
...you do think name >> quality????

-MD-5311d ago

A masterpiece called Agent that you have literally zero information about.

N4G king5311d ago (Edited 5311d ago )

@1.3
your name says it all

@1.4
what ??

@1.5
"that you have literally zero information about"
well i dont need to know anything about it
and still call it a masterpiece
why ?

R* always deliver
thats why

and i remember 360 fanboys hyping MGS:R with out knowing anything
about it

AliTheBrit195310d ago

1. Yes, Millions of people do

2. And what of it if the title says Gay? are you homophobic? is there anything wrong with being gay?

Obama5310d ago

Can you imagine a bunch of xbots lining up and asking for a copy of Gay Tony? One copy of Gay Tony please!

Saaking5311d ago

Yes it should, but the 360's limitation meant R* North couldn't see their vision for GTA complete. Fortunately, they'll get a chance to create their masterpiece with PS3 exclusive Agent.

BO WALEED5311d ago

I feel sorry for those GTA IV owners who play it on PS3 .. their dying to play those DLCs but they CAN'T ^^ ...
but all what they can say is ... that DLC sux!

Gabe EatsWell5311d ago (Edited 5311d ago )

I feel sorry for those flamebox owners that wants to play Uncharted 2 .. their dying to play AAA PS3 exclusives but they CAN'T ^^ ...
but all what they can say is ... bu-bu-bu-but teh salezzzz!

BO WALEED5311d ago (Edited 5311d ago )

lol, no man I got both Xbox and PS3.. my Xbox is daily use MP gaming, parties and news .. I played all those AAA PS3 exclusives also uncharted 2 and I use it for blue-rays sometimes!
but that sucks when you own only one console and start shooting at the other one!!!

DaChinPin5311d ago

We all know that you have not played any of the AAA PS3 titles that you speak of...Much less Uncharted, because obviously you do not own a PS3. kids do not own PS3s and if they do, I'd understand how you haven't played any AAA games...And that's because kids have disposable income to spend with games. Or the mental capacity to fully experience games online or offline... Have a nice day though.

rjgbyrne5311d ago

I am an xbox owner but will soon get a PS3 when the time is right, I reckon this eclusive download crap hurts gaming more than anything, why shouldn't PS3 owners play content for a game they have to experience the full game. Its silly but Rockstart should stop sitting on the fence and even offer MS the profits for it too if they paid the 50 Million.

topdawg1225311d ago

I agree I loved Gta IV, but haven't played any of the dlc cause i gots a ps3! I hope they bring it to ps3 eventually.

Redempteur5311d ago

Well i'm busy ..i enjoyed GTA4 ..but if rockstar takes too much time , then no ... there is just too much games for me to play in 2010 on my ps3 ..

cheapndirty5311d ago

Gay Tony and Lost and Damned are NEVER coming to the ps3. Rockstar got its 50 million. So no chance.

Like it or not you need to own all of the consoles to experience everything.

You can get both of those as a stand alone disk that will run with out the original gta4. 36.99 on Amazon.com

Fanboys care about it being on one system only. True gamers understand that you need to own more than one console.

HDgamer5310d ago

Only time will tell. It's 3rd party, it could be timed exclusive like Bethesda's deal.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies7d ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken7d ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing698d ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker8d ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo8d ago (Edited 8d ago )

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing698d ago (Edited 8d ago )

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos8d ago (Edited 8d ago )

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt7d ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken7d ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.

Grand Theft Auto 4 is an important game for Rockstar, not least because it was the first title in the franchise to use the newly created RAGE engine.
