IGN: Detuned Review

Detuned is certainly an interesting experiment, and it's fun to play around with for a few minutes. But when IGN says a few minutes, they really mean it. As it can't run on its own with whatever music you want, only with the included demo tune, its ability to act as a common music visualizer is totally lost. Currently selling for $2.99 in the US PlayStation Store, that's about a dollar per minute of entertainment. If you have cash to blow and want to see one of the weirdest pieces of software on any system, go for it. Otherwise, just watch some videos and you'll get the point.

I thought it was worth the $2.99

I had some fun messing around with it for like 20 minutes.I managed to get all the trophies in like 10 minutes without even trying. It's a good buy if you're a trophy whore.Quite a few silver one's too!

"They... gave a game rating to a demoscene. Idiots."

Exactly. IGN have gotten EVERYTHING wrong lately. Including this. What's wrong with them? This isn't a game, it's a demoscene application. I bought it and found it very intriguing. I had fun actually for a few hours today just remixing some of my favorite songs in detuned. It's quite unique.

But it's not a game, and rating it as a game is unfair to what the people involved in this production were trying to accomplish.

We should be ENCOURAGING Sony's support of stuff like this! Instead they treat it like something it's not and judge it against criteria that doesn't apply to this sort of product. It's like saying "This salmon is terrible because it doesn't taste like a hamburger!" OK, if you're looking for a hamburger, then yeah, the salmon is going to be a let-down, but if you're looking for salmon, well that's a different story. IGN completely fails to "get it" once again. And again they've proven the old idiom "You can't spell ignorant without IGN."

You can change the music.

You might want to reconsider the basis for your (unfair) slating of this demoscene release.

Y'know, before you, like, make fools of yourself?

Oh, right... too late for that.

Never mind...

Most Artistic Downloadable Games (RunDLC)

People continue to debate whether video games should be considered art. Opponents disagree because of user interaction, while supporters argue that games with stylish graphics and deeper experiences cross the line into artistic expression. We’re still not sure which side of the proverbial fence we sit on, but the following downloadable games could be considered works of art, thanks to unique visuals and captivating gameplay.

Shouldn't there be some PC games in there?

The site doesn't cover PC titles, so it's strictly games from Live, PSN and WiiWare
