G4TV: Brutal Legend Review

G4TV Writes:

Brütal Legend, developer Double Fine's heavy-metal opus, transports players into its mytho-rock-ical universe with screaming, fiery abandon. Seriously, if you ever wanted to know what it would be like to live inside heavy-metal album covers, creative director/designer Tim Schafer's vision is as close as you'll ever get. It's got its issues, but overall, Brütal Legend is a hell of a lot of fun.

good review but the soundtrack gets a 21/20 from me

EastCoastSB5321d ago

Between Uncharted, Borderlands, and MW2 I just can't afford to buy it.

Why Dat5321d ago

Same here... and I really want to buy this too :(

Darkstorn5321d ago

YOu guys should take advantage of that Buy 2 get 1 free deal at Toys R Us. I'm getting Uncharted 2, Brutal Legend, and Ninja Gaiden Sigma for the price of only two of them.

RememberThe3575321d ago

I GameFly'd it.

@Darkstorn: That is a great idea. I'll have to look into it.

EastCoastSB5321d ago

Completely forgot about that deal. Thanks for the reminder Darkstorn.

Uncharted 2 and Demon's Souls is enough for the end of this year. I'll come back to this one later.

I bought this on Ebay using some Ebay Bucks so I didn't have to pay full price out of pocket, I haven't received it yet, nor am I familiar with much Heavy Metal, however I'm excited to try it out. I've been playing U2 and Demon's Souls, but there's always room for more games!

badz1495321d ago

I think it's not bad! seems like a fun game to play

Digitaldude5321d ago

This game to me seems like wait until it drops in price, the gameplay isn't all that enthralling to me, totally out shadowed by Uncharted 2 IMO.
Good review though, the game looks better than i first thought.

This game...holy heck. Makes me feel old.

gamer7804765d ago

I loved that game. Unlocked every song

MadLad766d ago

Liked the aesthetic, tone, humor, and action combat.
Didn't care for the RTS elements.

Never cared to finish it.

porkChop766d ago

Yeah they marketed the game like it was a Heavy Metal GTA-ish adventure. And at the beginning of the game that's what it was. The game fell apart when the half-baked RTS stuff came in. I'd be interested in a reboot or sequel, but just go full action adventure and ditch the RTS. There really is something there with the Heavy Metal theme.

Ryushaa766d ago

I feel you. I just hacked the game to have infinite life/RTS resources

PS360 gen was special, then again it was still the mid 2000s. Everything went to shite in the teens

mastershredder765d ago

I think that was the breaker for Doublefine's creative ambitions and their mixing of genres (which was getting kinda stale). It was a nice to look at but it was more of a tribute to the many things Tim loves, was influenced by and has great admiration for....but the forced RTS stuff was like a drinking buddy's "great idea" that never should have come to light. The game seemed a lot more vast, but it ended pretty quickly too. And Jack Black. As much as I don't care for him as an actor (annoying and requires constant attention), this was absolutely made with him in mind and it worked. I mean come on, Tenacious D? For as Metal as this game was trying to be, even comically, it did little more than meow.
