Not long after its inception, the sports videogame splintered into two subdivisions. Electronic Arts' popular Madden, NHL, and NBA Live franchises used the modest power of 16-bit hardware in an effort to recreate each athletic pastime. Meanwhile diversions like NBA Jam and Mutant League Football thumbed their noses at realism, and constructed wonderfully exaggerated competitions with superhuman competitors.
Family Fun Football was clearly an effort to jumpstart Tecmo's legacy and bring it to a new generation of gamers. It is a mixture of some elements of Tecmo Bowl – the predecessor to Tecmo Super Bowl – some elements of Madden, and some elements not borrowed from either of those games.
Overall Family Fun Football is great fun for the whole family. However, if you are expecting another Tecmo bowl from this title you will be disappointed. This game is best played with friends and family, playing this title alone is not nearly as fun as the multiplayer.
