Aion To Retain Huge Numbers, Says Poll

IncGamers reports that, according to a poll on an Aion website, over 86% of players intend to renew their subscriptions after the first free month of game play has ended.

If I am not mistaken, WoW had about 1-2 million people in the first months and it was seen as a success. However not only did almost all the people renew, but millions more started playing when they saw just how amazing it was.

WoW boasted 12mil accounts worldwide before the Chinese fiasco. After that, they were down to 5mil.

Still a lot of people.... but 7mil from China?

Somewhat misleading. This was a poll on the leading fansite for the game, not even the official site. There were 1053 votes from *fans*... You'd expect any fan to be loyal and keep the faith, right?

And the actual stats are:

(US Server) - Yes, I'm happy with how things have gone 618 58.69%
(EU Server) - Yes, I'm happy with how things have gone 157 14.91%
(US Server) - I'm going to give them 1 more month to sort the queues out 54 5.13%
(EU Server) - I'm going to give them 1 more month to sort the queues out 82 7.79%
(US Server) - No, I will be cancelling 93 8.83%
(EU Server) - No, I will be cancelling 49 4.65%

So, 13.48% of Aion fans will be cancelling. 12.92% of Aion fans will give them 1 more month to sort out the queue problems and 73.6% of Aion *FANS* will renew.
Only 54% of European Aion *fans* said they are happy.

Well, anyway my friend has Aion and it looked great :O
I kinda wanted in but MMOs take too much dedication and he said it takes like days to get to lvl 30. Still looked like an amazing game tho, really good artwork.

Age of Conan was released, saw great sales numbers, then the subscription base promptly fell to a fraction what it was at its height.

You can put "Warhammer Online" where "Age of Conan" is in the above and it will still be true.

MMOs are one of the few areas where initial sales do not matter as much as a sustained player community. We'll see where Aion is six months to a year from now.
