Dead Space Extraction - ZTGD Review

ZeroTolerance writes: When EA released Dead Space last year it set a new bar for the horror genre. Its blend of immersive storytelling and creepy atmosphere combined to create one of the best experiences of the holiday season. Fast forward to now and Visceral Games has returned to deliver an alternative way to get the origin story behind the mysterious events of the Ishimura and its crew. Amazingly enough this time around the core game behind the mystery is an entirely different experience from its predecessor. Extraction is an on-rails shooter on Nintendo's motion-controlled console that manages to defy the laws of common videogame perception. One: a solid on-rails shooter and two: a Wii game that delivers incredible visuals and a truly engaging story that doesn't feel tacked on. Dead Space Extraction is another example of how to make a solid game that takes advantage of the Wii's strengths.

i just finished Dead Space over the weekend.

Great game but it was not scary at all. (even the jump-at-you moments)
it was a little creepy though (surround sound)

i'll definitely get this Wii game eventually

Syronicus5335d ago

Just asking. I found the game to frighten me more when it was tough and you were forced to manage your items more carefully. As for Extraction, yes, I too will be getting it. Gives me a reason to dust off my Wii.

meepmoopmeep5335d ago

not yet, but i will play on Impossible later.

i don't get scared by alien monsters and stuff like that. games like Siren are more scary to me visually.
the sound in Dead Space was great though, but the monsters weren't scary to me.

yeah, i loved how you had to really manage your ammo, that made the game more intense
which was ace.

ThanatosDMC5335d ago

I thought it was freaky... I love how they made those necromorphs. We really need a zombie game but they're freaks like those necromorphs. Great game.

TheBand1t5335d ago

Impossible wasn't scary for me. Then again, Dead Space is the only game I currently have a Platinum for.

Syronicus5335d ago

The item management was what made it most intense for me. I loved it like I loved the first RE. It was not just the enemy that got to me, it was the way you had to play the game that made every death important and the lessons learned were what kept you alive to the end.

VanHalen5335d ago

Dead Space was one of the few games that really made me jump. That and the first Condemned. I would have to say that Dead Space is one of my favorite games. Just an awesome title. Reminded me of Aliens a little. I will eventually pick this one up. Its obviously different, but still Dead Space.

SCThor5335d ago

The game is WAY scarier when you play it on "impossible", I didn't have the same feeling while playing it in normal.

The feeling of being in the verge of death with just one small health pack, 5 bullets in your plasma cutter enough for just 1 monster, and hearing a LOT of noises around....that scares the sh!t out of you.

ThanatosDMC5335d ago

Hmmm... looks like i gotta play it in Impossible... i see.

Cool. Glad you enjoyed it ZT! Great game and fills up our minds with plenty of Dead Space mythology ^^

I read from a few other sites that the rectile was to big for them as well but it never was a problem for me really. Yet if that is the one complaint no worries ;)

Dead Space Games Ranked From Worst to Best

BLG writes: "Dead Space. It’s a beloved horror series – one that yours truly can’t stop talking about on stream! Yet there are more Dead Space games than you may be aware of. So it’s my duty to introduce you to the best Dead Space games, and one very, very bad one. It’s time to grab a plasma cutter, cut off the limbs of terrifying necromorphs, and decide once and for all (on this website) which of the Dead Space games reigns supreme!"

Dead Space Extraction better than the original Dead Space?

Okaaaaay...

lucian229653d ago

I played all three. Didn't find them fun, just had nothing to play. I don't think I beat third game though. Combat was super clunky, graphics and art design were ugly imo, story in first game wasn't too bad, rest were meh.

Over hyped series imo, also it doesn't help horror games don't scare me, so I guess that's a big reason for me too.

MIDGETonSTILTS17653d ago

Play Alien Isolation on Hard or Nightmare.

Start on the movie DLC so that you don’t have to play a bunch of campaign in order to find out if you’ll be scared.

lucian229653d ago

I heard that was a good one. Honestly vr games scare me with jump scares because of how the threat feels real.

MIDGETonSTILTS17653d ago

There isn’t an official VR mode, unfortunately.

The audio should pull you right in if you use headphones.

CDbiggen653d ago

Just finished playing the first, enjoyed the fact Isaac was a silent alien crushing psycho doom-guy type. Just started the second yesterday and I'm annoyed he's a talker now and sounds like a regular guy who hasn't been through hell, but I suppose he couldn't remain silent.

VersusDMC653d ago

Dead Space 2 is my favorite followed by 1 then 3. All are good to me though. Just beat all 3 on series X and they hold up.

Xenial653d ago

As simple as 1,2,3.

Extraction, then Ignition.

EA Talks About Closing Visceral And Single-Player Games

The decision to close the studio and shift the focus of the Star Wars game is not a statement about the future for single-player games, EA says.

"'This was just a single-player game [and it] needed to be a live service.'"

What kind of a stupid mindset is that? It didn't need to be a damn live service. Single player games can work and you have the damn Star Wars name attached to it so it will sell well regardless of it having MP or not.

Ashlen2387d ago

How can you say this.

"We are seeing an evolution in the marketplace, and it became clear to us that to deliver an experience that players wanted to come back and enjoy for a long time, that we needed to pivot the design."

And then say this in the very next paragraph.

"It wasn't about, 'This was just a single-player game [and it] needed to be a live service."

I would say "do they really think people are this stupid?" But since people keep buying EA games after all the crap they have done over the years and decades that made gaming worse... I guess, yes, yes they are.
