Microsoft Remarketing Ninja Gaiden II

This morning, it appears that Microsoft have launched a minor, and rather bizarre, marketing campaign. Directly highlighting the rivalry for those in-the-know and referring to an Xbox 360 release that's now regularly available at a discounted price, it appears Microsoft still have faith in the original release of Ninja Gaiden II.

Well technically Ninja Gaiden 2 is still exclusive to the 360.

Then again, who is this really targeting? 360 owners? What difference will it make to the PS3 owner's if it's marketed towards 360 owners anyway.

PS3 gamers will buy NGS2 and 360 gamers will buy NG2.

It's not like a PS3 gamer will see NG2 for $20 and decide to buy a 360 just to get it for $20.

Multi-consoles owners, well depending on who you talk to. They might pick NG2 for $20, or the definitive version for $60. Or heck, hardcore NG owners probably are going to have both.

So this is an interesting, but sorta useless marketing for a 2008 game.

Microsoft, how about invest more money into games that matter right now, like... Forza 3. Haven't seen any ads for it yet (excluding the BS PR talk from Turn 10 themselves.

Anyway I bought NG 2 when it was $40, I'm having a ton of fun albeit frustration as well with the game. Since I'm a fan of Ninja Gaiden I'm also getting Sigma 2, either way, you can't go wrong!

Ninja Gaiden (Sigma or not) 2 is an amazing game!!! Personally I think this is the best game this generation thus far. I have already spent 250 hours on the original NG2 and I expect to spend plenty of time absorbing NGS2!!!

They are only doing this to confuse consumers into thinking that this is a dual-platform title, i.e. that the squeeky old NG2 on the 360 is the same as Sigma 2 on the PS3.

This is a continuing trend with MS. Just this week I caught an MS rep at a Best Buy spreading FUD about the PS3 to a Best Buy salesman. He implied that MW2 was a 360 exclusive, that Fallout 3 on the 360 is better because it has DLC available (which is now available for the PS3, and you KNOW this guy was well aware of that), and some other very misleading statements and outright lies. It was just sad, and I wanted to ask him if he truly believed the crap he was paid to spread.

Microsoft is in full dirtbag mode. They are also telling Best Buy salespeople to help spread lies about Linux (though I, for one, would always choose Windows over Linux, this is just a scum tactic).

I believe the real "definitive joke" this generation would be the console that is currently in dead, dead, hopelessly DEAD last place in every category (games, sales, online, etc) and is the successor to the console that was way ahead of everyone else last gen.

every PS3-only owner, like myself, will buy it irrespective of what the outcome of the comparision may be. the original game was only "good" (avg: 80%) to begin with, i am not expecting any improvement over the overall score. even though few new features are there, i guess they can't change the main story and gameplay style.

i only expect it to be 5 percent higher than original... and not 95%.

Downloaded the demo from PSN last night. Loved that boss fight, especially the way they placed the temple pillars in such a way that if you stood too far back they obscured the whole view forcing you to walk forward into an attack you couldn't see coming.

Spent more time (as with the previous NG) adjusting the camera than actually playing the game.

Team Ninja, do yourselves a favour a play Batman to see how a combat camera is supposed to function.

I agree, they could learn a thing or two about camera placement and functionality from Batman, as well as other games like God of War, Heavenly Sword, and so many others. That colossus boss fight in the demo was pretty crap. But I still much prefer Sigma 2 over the original NG2.

One slowdown and only one that's on record for the 360 version is the stairwell framerate drop when more and more enemies come. It's not a constant slowdown either, it happens only sometimes in that particular area only though.

I'm sure if they don't reduce the amount of enemies on screen on the ps3 version it will suffer the same slowdown/framerate drop as it's 360 counterpart... that we've played well over a year and a half ago.(<-- had to sorry)

The ones on the NES and XBOX never had that much gore to begin with so claiming Ninja Gaiden is nothing without the gore is just making me point and laugh in your face. If you weren't such a bigtime noob, you would know people love Ninja Gaiden for the fastpaced ninja action and challenge, which is why Ninja Gaiden 2 became an exception in the series.

It IS technically the same game. The PS3 version is better, due to the additions that it has. But, you are also paying for those additions, compared to the 360 version that is a whole lot cheaper. if you own both consoles, you have to decide which means more to you before you purchase.....that is if its your first time buying this game.

Sigma 2 does seem to be a tad easier than the original. I remember that Subway boss in particular game me fits before. In Sigma 2 it was a pushover with a few arrow shots. Which is fine, as the original fight was just stupid.

I do kind of miss the blood in sigma. You still ripp monsters apart and heads and limbs are flying everywhere, but they shouldnt have removed the blood. Graphics and framerate stability has been improved, and the new characters is a good way to differentiate the game a little. havent tried the coop yet. But overall i would say that the game still needs improvements with camera angles and invisible walls. Sigma is a step up from the original but still needs a bit of work. Hopefully they release NG3 simultaniously and put in more work to truly polish the game.

It is a NINJA game where you SLASH baddies to death so naturally you EXPECT TO SEE ALL THE BLOOD AND GORE IN A NINJA GAME, Hayabusa just looks that much more of a bad ass when he is slashing blood and guts all over the effen place. I played the original Ninja Gaiden on XBOX and now with Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 being released I just don't see the big deal about not having blood. To say that the PS3 version is gimped^^^ because it doesn't have blood is plain idiotic. It shows that someone is a true fanboy and will do anything to slam PS3 games.

This campaign is a waste of money. No one that is planning on buying the PS3 version will change their mind unless they own both consoles. I guess this is targeted to those who own a 360 or both consoles because this is not a title that pushes consoles.

I've played both versions extensively, And hands down sigma is the superior version. But it should be after a year release from the original. They took out a lot of the stupid and frustrating parts of the original and made a better game.

The blood was really cool in NG2 but you don't even notice it's gone after about five minutes of play. If you only own a 360 I wouldn't go run out to buy a ps3 for sigma. But if you own both I would recommend sigma completely over the original.

The Slim got releases because all the hardcore gamers/hardcore sites? whinged about the extra features being on the PS3 being there, so Sony have removed them,I reckon it's a big shame I mean the card reader is great for backing up photos from cameras.

I guess it allowed for a 120gig HD as standard now with a 250gig special release Slim for those who want the upper class Slim PS3.

All the while MS keeps dropping the price to try and keep the 360 selling at the shops, shut down it's game product div and solely relying on 3rd parties to prop up it's own console with games.

What's the point of remarketing Ninja Gaiden II? It's already being sold for 19.98$. When I saw the price went down for 19.98$. The PS3 version for 59.96$ brand new has only been out for few weeks. So why market a game that's a platinum hit?

couldnt care less about this game, i rent it and its one of the worst game i ever played. The story is like an epic pile of sh1t, the visual aspect are verry ugly...
Oh and the fact that you cant do some exploration in the game really sucks!

a lot of Adds to promoting NGS2 which is good, n I think the ones who could b real mad at MS might b Tecmo and Team Ninja, Why??? because they're the ones who own the franchise, n MS is trying to intervene at the sales of NGS2 with a year older n original version, I believe thats a really bad move by MS because that's like they only want Tecmo to make money with them!!!

Sigma is in whole or part a copy of the original. Developed on MS money, therefore a healthy part of the profit should go to them, internationally MS need to manage this as does Sony. Tecmo are the money hungry ones here, all fans should realise this, I bought the orignal and don't condone PS3 owners a chance to play it at all, its just corporate games that in my opinion hinders development of newer titles. Bill, set the dogs on Tecmo, look for that hidden clause in the contract.

Obviously Tecmo has the rights to release a Sigma version later for Playstation. They did it with 1, they've done it with 2. Don't pretend to understand what goes on behind closed doors. This will all have a solid grounding and I'm sure MS got what they wanted out of the deal.

A few reviewers are playing down this remake and for one specific reason... The gore police have censored this game. Yes that satisfying blood bath which ensued from dismembering enemies in NG2 is now gone, replaced with a glowing purple light, a little bit of bloody spray, bloody swords and boobie jiggling. And I agree that it's a big deal, the gore is a big satisfying part of NG. It's a bit sad they decided to tone it down yet give us six-axis boobie jiggling and co-op. Sure the co-op mode in itself probably makes this definitive. But my friends tend to suck at games so I often don't enjoy playing local co-op that much anyway.

Either they think PS3 owners are anti-violence perverts or they're trying to get a lower recommended age for this version. Fat chance with the booby jiggling. Didn't you know? Sex is way more bad ass than violence. Jeez. It'd be awesome if this gets banned in Australia because it's too sexually interactive to have player controlled boob jiggling. They banned sexy poker, which was tamer than an episode of Coro St. Ok so it might get kids googling 'sexy asian chicks' all over the continent paving the way for a morally moribund society full of Aussie pervs dreaming of playing strip poker with Asian girls (I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing to think about...). But hey, it aint like Australians ain't screwed enough with prevalent gangs, racism and drugs right?

I'm no fanboy, I played NG2 and liked the Blood and Gore even though the spamming difficulty made it challenging, but I only played like a few chapters at my friends house.

I own a PS3 and I immediately bought Sigma 2 Collectors Edition and tbh, I love Sigma 2. Personally, who cares if Microsoft is remarketing NG2. Both title have enough differences and some exclusives to make both games stand out. The lack of blood in Sigma 2 isn't that much of a bother, although I'd love for a patch to have it optional, but all in all NGS2 is a pretty awesome title. Reviews are pretty happy with what Sigma 2 has done since last year with NG2.

If you own both systems and is a Ninja Gaiden Fan, buy both of these titles. The more Ninja Gaiden we see, the better.
I should also point out that Hayashi confirmed NG3 in the future and blood and gore returning, but he wanted this title to be different than Itagaki's version. Ninja Gaiden is awesome no matter what platform it's on.
Ninja Gaiden, God of War and Devil May Cry = best action games you can find. :D
