Americas Preorder Charts - 04th Oct 09

Uncharted 2 added another 60,000 preorders this week to take the total to 240,000. With around ten days left until release, total preorders should be over 300,000 units by the time the game releases - suggesting a week one of around 450,000 units as suggested last week. Wii Fit Plus reached nearly 100,000 preorders before release - expect week one sales to be at least double that when the final data is in next week due to the nature of sales of a game like Wii Fit. The majority of preorders are for the stand-alone version, suggesting that a lot of early buyers will be existing owners looking to upgrade to the new version.

Also all the news they post on their site holds some weight which automatically makes it more reliable source for information than N4G so I find it funny that a people who are members of N4G have the nerve to bad mouth VGChartz.

Other than that. MW2 is massive on 360. 360 owners sure love their FPS's. Uncharted 2 looking good, maybe 450/500k week one sales which is pretty good for because that means 1 in 18 PS3 owners in america will be getting it week one.

What is their "source"? Ask that and your question gets deleted.
THeir numbers are ways off compared to NPD, every single month, sure sometimes they hit it, just like Pachter, but other than that is guess game site.

Only correct numbers they have are Japanese, but that is because they take them from Famitsu/mediacrate.

Vgchartz is not legit, i like reading that site but i never take it too seriously, like most of ppl do, based on no proof.

Compare VGChartz to NPD for the last 6 months and they have been pretty much identical (i.e within 5-10%). And before people say that VGChartz makes adjustments I am comparing their NPD preview (released a week before NPD comes out) the the final NPD data.

Has anyone actually provided some actual, real examples of where VGChartz is supposed to be so inaccurate? All I see is fanboys posting "lol vgchartz wft" or whatever - great argument there!

Well...NPD is a massive company that employs a lot of people and they can't track preorder numbers.

So how can one guy? He can't.

Actually they are not to bad at their estimate.

They get their numbers exactly the same way as NPD. They get the sales from the major stores chains and fill in the gaps.
What I mean by that is say if their information on sales covers 80% of stores, they add in the remaining 20%. The same way as NPD. The reason their results are different is because they cover different stores and I know that one major chain, I think its target, is covered by vgchartz and not NPD.

Also somebody mentioned famitsu and media create as good sources for sales information yet the are very different from each other every week. Because like vgchartz and NPD they get their sample from different stores making neither wrong but both a good guide.

Secondly, NPD is a large company but they cover many industries - the videogame team is probably made up of 5-10 people at most.

I dont know how old you are, im guessing 10 by your comments, but you should still have a brain cell to understand why i beleive VGChartz to br reliable. A site going from strengh to strengh. If you dont believe them then fair enough. Further more if you want to provide evidance, this goes for all the nay sayers, then provide it with the your comments.

Vgchartz's game is simple:

* Use Microsoft's public 'ship to retailer' numbers instead of actual sales to customer numbers for installed base

* Use Sony's public 'sold to customer' numbers. And always delay updating PS3 numbers with the latest public sales data

* Use the 'mysterious Other Region' to inflate 360 sales as much as possible since that is the region that has the least amount of public sales data available

* Go back and update the old fake sales numbers to avoid getting caught when legitimate sales data becomes public

* Make up pre-order sales number figures that are as big as possible for the 360 but still sound believable

* Make up pre-order sales number figurers that are as low as possible for the PS3 but still sound believable

Obviously the Xbox fan who runs vgchartz can't stop real sales data from coming out. But he can play the 'preview' and 'pre-order' game where there are no actual legitimate sales data to show he is lying and he can try to get 'wow, great 360 numbers' and 'wow, the PS3 numbers aren't as good as everyone thought' responses.

Well it's gained 60,000 preorders the week before last, and 60,000 more this last week. It's building a good head of steam, and hopefully Sony's recent advertising will give it good legs. Also, there are going to be 3 solid months of sales with Oct, Nov and Dec.

Then you also have to remember this is not including EU numbers which I imagine will also be huge.

It is certainly a better and more improved game than the first, but who knows. You'll see a little jump in Uncharted sales because people will want to play the first before playing the second.

I guess you just payed attention to MW2 and ignored the other games huh? Seeing as how the 360 has a higher install base, I'm impressed that the numbers are almost even.

I can see how how MW2's numbers are higher because it sold a crap load more on the 360 so really, to me anyway, that's no surprise. I like that Demon's Souls is looking pretty decent. Brutal Legend doesn't look to bad either.

I am not bashing the PS3 at all. I am surprised MW2 has that many pre-orders. If you recall the pre-orders from CoD4:MW, it was a fraction of that. I don't really even care about any other game coming out the rest of 2009, I am addicted to MW and MW2 is all I am about right now. Between my mortgage, college loans, and other bills, I don't have the luxury to purchase every single game that looks half-way decent. My statement was pure fact, that 1.5 for the 360 is impressive and I will be pumped when it hits 2 million. I could care less about who is "winning" this generation. Between my job and my fiance, the little time I get nowadays to play videogames, I do just that, PLAY. So, yes, MW2 is the most important for me. What's the big deal if it is anyway? I have been an huge Infinity Ward fan since CoD2 and I am happy they are producing an amazing game. Why does everyone on this site have to turn everything into a flame war? Give me a break. I am very excited for this game, have used a personal day for it's release and will pick it up at midnight and play it 48 hours straight.

The Modern Warfare 2 numbers are huge. Also impressive for Uncharted 2, and New Super Mario Bros. Wii had a big weekly gain as well.

You guys also have to remember that these numbers are only from Amazon. So stores like Gamestop and Gamecrazy or any European stores are not counted. So I am sure that Uncharted 2 will probably have around 800K sales opening week

What's worse than that is 54% of those Xbox consoles are going to get the red ring of death. Now cut that number of player's in half. Those player's will be sitting waiting for the refub console to show back up. Meanwhile on the PS3 side, 98% of those players will continue to play and have no issues at all. Not to mention PS3 owners have a choice to play that game, MAG and BFBG2..... But, we will be busy with CODMW2, GT5, MAG, GOW3, Demon's Souls and UnCharted 2 also while you just play your little COD there son, lol.

btw son, MGS4 sold over 1.3 million it's first day. Nothing on the Box touches that game and never will. It also did it at a time when the phat PS3 was still $499 and $599 in price. So yeah...
