Why am I Supposed to be Hyped for Brutal Legend?

Every now and then the games press will throw its weight behind an upcoming title, writing raving previews in the hopes that gamers will give it a chance. This was done with BioShock, and thankfully the hype came true. Right now Brutal Legend seems to be the game journalists are heaving onto their shoulders, desperately trying to make consumers aware of designer Tim Schafer's inevitable gem.

Fun gameplay
Good graphics
Hollywood voice acting
Tim Schafer
Funny Dialog
Why not be hyped?

BlackPrince 425318d ago

Based on the demo I played I can tell you right now the graphics are not impressive. The art design is good, but not the graphics. I'm not sold on the gameplay yet either. It's extremely simple and combat doesn't feel rewarding at all. I also find the dialogue hit and miss even though the voice acting is stellar.

Granted it's only the demo, but I do feel as if the media is blowing this game out of proportion.

Serjikal_Strike5318d ago

but i can only agree that it does have funny dialog...thats it

the graphx are poor
the gameplay is repetitive
hollywood voice acting doesn't make a good game...
its a rental at best...

Elvfam5115318d ago

but i'll wait into it's like 20 bucks

ThanatosDMC5318d ago

No reason to be hyped up about this mediocre game... especially that $hitty actor is voicing it.

spunnups5318d ago

Black Prince took the words right out of my mouth.

BleuStreeks5318d ago

EA has their hans on it so I wont be getting this game...

chaosatom5318d ago

The cut scene and dialogue were fun and hilarious.

But still, I would only play it for the story, not much else.

Sarcasm5318d ago

"Fun gameplay
Good graphics
Hollywood voice acting
Tim Schafer
Funny Dialog "

Gameplay is OK.
Graphics is OK.

RememberThe3575318d ago (Edited 5318d ago )

I can't wait for it.

I loved the demo and I can't wait to see what Tim Schafer's created. I'm getting tired of all this sites bandwagons...

EDIT: And when the hell was this game ever hyped? Advertisements are not hype, people. Killzone 2 before launch? That is hype. This game has been under nearly everyone's radar, so what the hell is the point of this article?

And where the hell did all the hate for this game come from? Last time I checked this was News 4 Gamers, not News 4 Haters.

This game is going against the grain. Seriously, Name one game that has come out the last few years like this one. One game.

I agree 100% with Baseballfan, this game is going to be awesome.

vhero5318d ago

Played the demo from what I can tell this is NOT worth the full price of a game. The problem is in this day and age games are so expensive consumers have to be more picky about games so games like this are just not good enough.

Microsoft Xbox 3605318d ago

Looks to me like a mediocre game.

SuperM5318d ago

How many classic games have Tim Schafer made?

These are the 2 questions people should ask themselves if they want to know why Brutal Legend is being hyped. The man is a genius and he has never made bad game, infact almost every game he made has been a classic. To put it short, dont underestimate a Tim Schafer game.

RockmanII75318d ago

I guess myself and only a few others here will be enjoying this gem, shame.

Syronicus5318d ago

I buy games because they are good. If I bought games on the Developer names alone then Haze would have been in my library. Even good devs can make stinkers from time to time.

paul03885318d ago

But it's not something I'm going to buy I don't think. Should be well worth a gamefly though.

dabri55317d ago

I could of sworn you bought games based off of what Sony told you to buy.

This game looks last gen
no thanks, Ill be playing a better game when this comes out :|

RadientFlux5318d ago

Apparently you have forgotten what games looked like last gen. Sure Brutal Legend may not have all the bells and whistles of Uncharted 2.

But after playing the demo and viewing countless screen-shots, I'm still impressed with the creativity of the landscape, character designs and overall feel of the game.

Besides if every game looked, as amazing as Uncharted 2 is, gaming would start to look a little boring.

SSS5318d ago

i dont trust your opinion, you are a fanboy of the highest order. you said the new mw 2 trailer is "fail", without giving any reasons on joystiq.

you seem to be a troll that loves to piss of people....

LordMarius5318d ago

I stand with what I said, thanks for taking my bubble

ia_studio5318d ago

It's a seriously huge open world game, some of stuff is just epic in size you just havent seen it.

vhero5318d ago

It's not open world its linear and does the world have room for any 4 hour non multiplayer linear games anymore? The wii might have room for this type of game but they are charging half the price for them.

Lucreto5318d ago (Edited 5318d ago )

It is open world Tim said it is 64 square kilometers

Watch this

butterfinger5318d ago

Are you sure you played the demo? I am 100% positive that they show the multiplayer that you just claimed the game doesn't have.

RadientFlux5318d ago

I'm hyped for Brutal Legend and I agree with some the article's points.

The game itself isn't really doing anything new. What makes Brutal Legend hype worth is Tim Schafer's track record of creating games that not only deliver a great unique story but an immersive gaming world.

OGharryjoysticks5318d ago (Edited 5318d ago )

So you can tell yourself you don't need a PS3 that day for Uncharted 2 since they release on the same day.

Even though that's the fanboy in you lying to your face

Bathyj5318d ago

I hate it when I lie to my own face.

paul03885318d ago

Ok... Because of your terrible grammar I really cant tell if your bashing or praising Uncharted 2, but if your bashing it, your not a gamer, your a fanboy because any gamer would be super excited for it.

And Brutal Legend also looks good. I love Tim Schaffer but I'm only renting it because I have a good few games to buy over the next 2 weeks. Uncharted 2 and Operation Flashpoint just to name a few.

LordMarius5318d ago

its sad that the bots only have this game to play on Oct. 13

but of course they will stand in line just so they can give this game sells and proclaim its better than U2

MajorJackHoff5318d ago

This game looks boring and uneventful.

Shadow Man5318d ago (Edited 5318d ago )

October 29, 2009 and it will be awesome.

AAGay tony > AAAUncharted2....in sales.. because thats all we got.

This game...holy heck. Makes me feel old.

gamer7804753d ago

I loved that game. Unlocked every song

MadLad753d ago

Liked the aesthetic, tone, humor, and action combat.
Didn't care for the RTS elements.

Never cared to finish it.

porkChop753d ago

Yeah they marketed the game like it was a Heavy Metal GTA-ish adventure. And at the beginning of the game that's what it was. The game fell apart when the half-baked RTS stuff came in. I'd be interested in a reboot or sequel, but just go full action adventure and ditch the RTS. There really is something there with the Heavy Metal theme.

Ryushaa753d ago

I feel you. I just hacked the game to have infinite life/RTS resources

Inverno753d ago

PS360 gen was special, then again it was still the mid 2000s. Everything went to shite in the teens

mastershredder753d ago

I think that was the breaker for Doublefine's creative ambitions and their mixing of genres (which was getting kinda stale). It was a nice to look at but it was more of a tribute to the many things Tim loves, was influenced by and has great admiration for....but the forced RTS stuff was like a drinking buddy's "great idea" that never should have come to light. The game seemed a lot more vast, but it ended pretty quickly too. And Jack Black. As much as I don't care for him as an actor (annoying and requires constant attention), this was absolutely made with him in mind and it worked. I mean come on, Tenacious D? For as Metal as this game was trying to be, even comically, it did little more than meow.
