FIFA '10 On PS3 Outselling Xbox 360 Version In The UK

Shaun McIlroy of OLC writes:

Here in the United Kingdom a paradigm shift is occurring. For the first time in years a FIFA title is selling better on the PlayStation 3 than it is on Xbox 360.

Both UK online retail outlets Play.com and Amazon UK have the PlayStation 3 release ahead of the Xbox 360 version in their best sellers list which begs us to ask the following question. Has the PS3 Slim turned the tide here in the UK in favour of Sony Computer Entertainment?

Bombshell!

Fifa 10 PS3 outselling 360 in people between the ages of 37 and 38 who's names begin with the letters Z or X.

We'll keep you posted as more news develops...

gaffyh5327d ago

Football (Soccer) > Everything in UK, seriously. I know people who only bought a PS2 to play Pro Evolution Soccer, and that's the ONLY game they played. These types of games are better systems sellers sometimes than exclusive titles.

They just need to be marketed properly.

KingME5327d ago

Why is this important. We're now starting to get reports on ongong software sells. What is this a baseball game being reported live from ESPN?

I live in the UK and I met my third PS3 owner last week.
I asked him if he was excited about getting Uncharted 2 and MW2, he said NO all he is getting this year is Fifa 10!

Out of all my 360 owning friends only 1 said he will be getting Fifa 10.

topgeareasy5327d ago

some people people prefer sports games to shooters

Time Lord5327d ago

I got mate who bought PS3 for FIFA 09 and only bought GT5:P since. now his buying his 3rd PS3 game FIFA 10 :).

silvacrest5327d ago

i wonder how many 360 owners bought there console only for gears and halo....in comparison to what you just said

ShabzS5327d ago (Edited 5327d ago )

definitely bought mine for gears

mastiffchild5327d ago

I got my most recent 360 mainly to play Gears2 myself as it looked i creasingly unlikely to come out on PC myself. Loads of people I know with bboth consoles got a 360 for Halo or Gears while the reasons for a PS3 were more varied.

Thing is IDK whether sales of games like Fifa, PES or Madden tell us all that much. There's certainly a whole bungh of less serious gamers who just love their sports games and might also buy a CODF a year as well to play against their mates but in my experience these gamers generally get games for the console most of their mates play on so I do not know what to take from Fifa apparently selling better on the PS3 this time in the UK.

Maybe a lot of these less avid gamers on the 360 have already bought this paycheques game with ODST? There hasn't been a big PS3 exclusive this month either(maybe post U2 there will be more Fifa sold on 360?)as NGS2 doesn't appeal to your couple of games a year people who often buy sports titles as a thing of habit.

Whatever, it isn't so cut and dried as this article makes out but is stil interesting when you consider how much bigger the installed 360 base is in the UK compared to the PS3-perhaps there's fewer active 360s than we imagined sue to MS stating shipped rather than sold numbers or even vecause of RROD exchanges distorting the figures a bit-who knows really but we'll have too wait to see if PS3 keeps selling more Fifa copies or not.

My guess is the 360 version will, at least, catch up a good bit-every gamer(esp those who bought their consoles for Halo)on 360 will have bought ODST which will have made a dent in the number of people able to get another game just now, imo.

LIKE NO WAY OHH MY GOD Becky!

belal5327d ago

fifa and pes is all about the same thing ... LOL

you go from your side to the opnents side and try to score, its not even funto play unless you play with friends.

Fishy Fingers5327d ago (Edited 5327d ago )

You could say that about any sport, or even genre. Generally, if your a footy fan, and play games, then football games are going to appeal to you. Like racing games, or basketball etc

Plus, they are different, they may seem like only subtle differences, but they all add up.

'shooters, all you do is try and shoot someone over and over' See what I'm saying?

silvacrest5327d ago

i totally agree fishy and i was gonna say something similar

cwir5327d ago

That's the most stupid comment I've seen in months mate..

mastiffchild5327d ago

I feel like that about some sports myself but realise that other people find a depth to them that I obciously don't.

Football, however, is the greatest team sport ever created and contains far more spontenaiety than basketball(a game for freakishly tall people where it seems you score nearly every time you get the ball), US football(so stop-start and drawn out it could almost have been made with ads in mind), baseball(rounders for men in pyjamas-need I say more!)or even ide hockey(where in real life seeing the puck is a challenge in it's own right and most people get more excited by the fights).

Obviously, though, like you miss what's great about "soccer" I don't see what's special about these games so when EA (or whoever) makes a game abouit them I wouldn't bother commenting-it just isn't my bag or area of expertise so I'd add little to any debate.

More t the point for ALL these sports games is the way we have to buy another full game every single year when that gives us only tiny improvements and a team roster/team kits update. Madden's/Fifa/PES etc could all be released as a full game(like a base model)every two tears and on the second year would be available as the full game OR as an update download or update disc for, say, £20. Avoiding gameplay updates every year would allow for two years to work on REAL advances in engines/gameplay etc and people would also have extra time with the game, extra value and EA(or whoever) would still keep a yearly stream of income and as they're releasing something needing less work could stioll have similar profits to now.

Or am I being silly?

zootang5327d ago

I have about 10 friends on my psn showing that they are playing fifa10. I need to go out and buy it. Rooney and the united squad play it on the playstation, It show's it in United Mag

Nicaragua5327d ago

Maybe that just shows that the 360 customer base contains a larger amount of plebs who go out for pointless midnight launches ?

artgamer5327d ago

PS3 owners have girlfriends and go out at night, or sleep even.

redsquad5327d ago

I've never wanted any game, EVER, enough to attend a midnight launch. People go straight home and start playing? I like my sleep too much...

locos855327d ago

Same here I'll pick it up the next day. Not one midnight launch for me.

ukilnme5327d ago

I'll never be the type of gamer that goes to a midnight launch. There are better things to do at midnight. Of course there are worse things too.

mastiffchild5327d ago

I like midnight launches, have kids, a missus and a life! It all depends what it's for. I'd forgotten to preorder our Wii so went to the midnight release at Tescos and it was a good night with me taking the kids along who had a great time. They hadn't seen anyone dressed up cosplay style before and there were Links and Marios, A Princess Peach and a very tidy looking young Zelda! Reminded me of the one for OoT on the 64 when we all wanted the gold cart!

Don't bother with many these days(aren't many where we live anyway-and I'd usually only think about it if I'd forgotten a preorder) but they aren't always rubbish even out here in the sticks-and my little lad(was 5 at the time) was really enthralled by the people cosplaying.

Videogame Virgin: Assassin’s Creed III, FIFA and bathrobes

Editor’s note: In this bi-weekly feature, Pixelitis staffer Matt Brown shares his “down the rabbit hole” look into gaming history. Having admittedly missed what many consider “classics,” join him as he dives in head first. We ask that you just be gentle with him.)

"Going down the list in Steve Bowden’s 100 Computer Games to Play Before You Die, I was supposed to write something about Defender this week but I decided not to. Just doesn’t feel right. Not for this week, not for right now at least.

I want to talk about something bigger, I guess. I want to talk about how, in times like these, gaming is valuable and vital. So I’m gonna do that instead."

Football games: Worth every penny or a total con?

TGC writes: There are those that like to argue whether you are a Fifa gamer or a Pro Evolution Soccer gamer. I’m going to take it one step further and say your either a football gamer or a non football gamer. The fact of the matter is a new game comes out every year with possibly the slightest difference from the previous game and they release it onto the shelves in quantities thinking that they’ve made something new and improved. I really think they should hold a prize for anyone who can spot the difference between FIFA 09 and FIFA10 because I’m really struggling.

I use to buy every sports game I was interested in madden,MLB,nba and wwe along few others and I remember buying playing for few days than thinking why I paid full price for this. Than one year about 4 years ago I said no more and I have never bought another sports game at launch sometimes I do buy me when they $20 on craiglist of sale but that's barely

IMO sports games don't do enough to justify a fully price and that's just my opinion

If 2k can sell nfl 2k5 for $19.99 and make a profit than why are games today with less content are selling for full 60? No wonder why EA ran to nfl and bought the exclusive rights

FIFA
Nfl
Nba
MLB
Wwe
NHL
Etc,

Sports games shuld be every 2 years and in between dlc and more updates and stuff like tournaments

berndogskate4286d ago

If people are willing to buy them then whats the problem? i think its cod or mw123 you should be talking about, the new pes and fifa look good this year.

Sports games tend to bore me, but I'm very fond of Tony Hawk, Skate, NBA Street V2 and some WWE games (if you count it as sport... sports entertainment... whatever).
