PSX Extreme: Heroes Over Europe Review

PSX Extreme writes: "Flight games are few and far between these days so when they do arrive, I always want to hit the not-so-friendly skies and light up the baddies. Heroes Over Europe has just arrived and just in time to do battle with IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey (you'll see our analysis on the competition later this week), and after winging around the German-infested skies over Europe, I come away somewhat satisfied and with a very minor touch of vertigo; I spent the last 15 minutes flipping around and flying on my back, which shouldn't be that easy, but it's not if you select the Professional control option."

Worthplaying: Heroes Over Europe (PC) Review

WP writes: "Heroes Over Europe is the sequel to Heroes of the Pacific, the World War II arcade flight sim that pit would-be pilots against the forces of the Empire of Japan. From Pearl Harbor to Iwo Jima, the well-told story underlying its missions was riveting as players saw the war from the eyes of a young pilot who was part of the campaign that pushed the IJN back across the Pacific. 411Mania: Heroes Over Europe (PS3) Review

It was unfortunate that this game was released so close to the brilliant IL-2 Sturmovik, because otherwise it would probably have filled a gap in the console flight schedule, but it does stray a little to far towards the arcade side of things. Ultimately, regardless of the fact that the game doesn't do anything particularly wrong, there's just not enough here to justify the price. If you see it in a few months at a reduced price, then it's certainly worth a look.
