Super Street Fighter IV is a Bad Move for Capcom

PS3Informer weighs in on why releasing Super Street Fighter IV a year after Street Fighter IV is such a bad move for Capcom. They draw comparisons to the Madden series and Burnout Paradise games.

"Capcom calls Super Street Fighter IV the 'ultimate vision' of Street Fighter."

Then what the hell did we buy in February?

Damn. I was looking forward to playing T. Hawk. But I'm not buying the same game again.

Nitrowolf25332d ago

didn't they say this game takes place one year after the orignal 4? idk i won't buy this either, i feel cheated but i should have seen this coming look at there past SF game

el_bandito5332d ago

WTF. All along I thought this was a DLC.

Xlll5332d ago

Why are you all complaining? It's not even full price.

tinman_licks5332d ago

@Xlll - you probably bought Halo 3: ODST for $60 right? Wanna trade $20 for my $10 bill then?

Xlll5332d ago (Edited 5332d ago )

ODST was a full price title and no i don't own a 360 anymore. Also you are more then likely not that into fighters as i am. Nor as competitive.

Also i bought the Wii for capcom vs tatsunoko. Just because of it being an amazing fighter that i got to try out in Japan.

People, scrubs, need to shut the ef up
this will help you:

Reibooi5332d ago

@Xlll

It is true that it won't be full price but they still have not said what price it will be and if it's $50 no deal. It needs to be $30 for it to be even close to a good deal. It's not that much of a improvement and in this day and age it should have been DLC(I don't care what they say about it not being possible it is and they want more money then DLC can provide)

swingingape5332d ago

If they can patch fps like Gears, CoD for balance issues and exploits. I'm sure they can patch street fighter for simple stat and ai changes. They just don't want to because they can make a bunch more money selling you the same fixes in a plastic for $40 than thru download for $20. Simple economics people. Stop making excuses for them like a kidnap victim siding with his captors.

swingingape5332d ago

The game is not worth it. simple fact

tinman_licks5332d ago (Edited 5332d ago )

@Xlll - That's the point. ODST is an over-priced expansion pack. If you still had your 360, I'm sure you would have gotten that too to prove how hardcore you are.

I'm not trying to pick on you, but I'm just trying to expose the mentality a lot of fans put themselves through to defend these money-grubbing moves publishers pull.

Venomish5332d ago (Edited 5332d ago )

and you will find more than half of the complainers belong to 1 or more of those groups:
1. people who suck at SF4.
2. people who don't care much about SF4.
3. people who bought halo ODST for $60 and thought was worth it.
4. people who buy Madden, Winning Eleven or FIFA every year.

EDIT
I fogot
5. people who really don't even know what is going to be included in SSF4

Bonsai12145332d ago

take the blazblue route. rebalance everything, new characters, continued story, remade stages, new HUD. give it an arcade release, then a console release. then maybe its justifiable to charge near full price for it.

NoBias5332d ago

All the complainers are people who either suck, don't care about Street Fighter and/or don't care about the fighting genre.

As far as I'm concerned their opinions on the matter don't mean a damn.

I wish there was another channel that real SF fans and serious fighting fans could talk about the upcoming game and other fighting games. But we're on N4G so hating-ass people are obviously going to spill over into topics that don't even concern them. It's annoying and just causes clutter.

I highly doubt a patch could change the whole inner workings on SFIV into the mechanics that SSFIV will have. The two games won't even be compatible online. Either way, no matter what the haters say: I will be playing this game day 1 along with all the other hardcores.

I love the Street Fighter community. It's all about respect. There's no room for haters or scrubs (unless the scrubs have the drive to continue honing in on their skill and learning). Hell, everyone starts off as one.

AKNAA5332d ago

If any of you bought the ODST Expansion pack for full price because your a Fan of Halo, Don't even complain or talk Sh1t about capcom and super SF4... If anything, MS learned from capcom, since we all know capcom has a history with street fighter 2: this and that, all while charging full price for the same game with some upgrades here and there...

I've been a Fan of the street fighter series since the original street fighter 2 came out, thats why I'm likely to buy the next installment, not at full price though. sure I'm a big fan, but also, I'm not careless with my money either, therefore I'll most likely hold out and get it used, unless capcom charges between $30-$40...
If you think capcom is ripping you off, its obvious that your NOT a Street fighter Fan, so don't whining about it cause you won't understand...

IaMs125332d ago

If people want to buy this and they think its worth THEIR money, its worth it then. I go by how I like it, if it worth it to ME because its MY money. That is why i havent bought ODST yet because I dont think its worth that price yet. YOU may think otherwise... Get my point?

chester5332d ago

i'll be first in line to get it. i got so many hours out of SF4 that there's no way i'd miss 8 new characters. would i rather a $20 DLC package? sure, but i'm not going to be picky as long as i'm getting more street fighter.

tinman_licks5332d ago

$20 DLC = day 1 purchase. $40 retail game = clearance bin purchase.

chester5332d ago

that's the risk capcom is taking i guess.

Xlll5332d ago

@tinman_licks your a casual fighter player. Capcom hinted at this at EVO '09 only hardcore fighter fans will get this and those that want SF4 at a cheap price.

NoBias5332d ago

Capcom has enough loyal Street Fighter fans that this move will definitely pay off for them (And us!).

I can't wait for it.

Man, street fighter invented the yearly repackage.
They did that on the snes too.

Every Street fighter has seen at least 3 revisions.

FiftyFourPointTwo5332d ago

Seems like we all played the beta version.
Oh well, I'm still buying it because they included Ibuki and Cody. :)

nolifeking5332d ago

My original purchase seems to be a waste of money now seeing as how there releasing a "definitive" version with more characters and a better parry system. Capcom has really taken the piss(I'm from the u.s and can't think of a better term) out of buying their games. The worst part is is, I'm mosy likely gonna get it cause the the parry system(can't remember what it was called.) makes the game a lot more hardcore.

Xlll5332d ago

Anyone who bought SF4 will be getting a "Gift" from capcom when they pick up SSF4. It's on Capcom Blog.

swingingape5332d ago

i bet the "gift" is one free costume. whoopie

How Street Fighter IV Saved 2D Fighting Games (Ft. Maximilian Dood)

After Street Fighter II released in in 1991, it caused a fighting game explosion, both in arcades and in home consoles. But, as the decade ended, and arcades were failing, so too were 2D Fighting games. This is how Street Fighter IV completely revitalized the genre.

I'd say Blazblue helped too. Didn't care for Street Fighter 4, but Blazblue was amazing during that time. Sad that the series kind of went downhill after the first 2 or 3 games though.

DarXyde323d ago

BlazBlue was phenomenal. Platinum'd Calamity Trigger because I loved it so much. I remember buying Continuum Shift back in the day at launch for like $40. They did have DLC characters (Valkenhayne, Makoto, and Platinum at the time) and it came out to just a tad more than it would at full price. Didn't mind at all.

Great fighting game.

Snookies12322d ago

Continuum Shift was definitely my favorite. Spent way too many hours on that game, haha... Had the counters for days with Hakumen.

DarXyde322d ago

I really like Makoto, Valkenhayne, and Hazama. Super fun characters

Terry_B322d ago

Valkenhayn ..just sayin'

Terry_B323d ago

BlazBlue was the much better, more technical game..and a real 2D Fighting Game after all. But yes, since it was a big name..the characters were still popular and the game itself was good, SFIV indeed helped a lot. However, I am pretty sure the much better-selling Mortal Kombat 9 would have been done without SFIV as well..and that one truly helped to make the fighting game genre in general more popular again.

Ryuha1234h323d ago

You’re sound dumb. Blazblue was not better than sf4. You’re just saying that because you’re a street fighter hater.

Redgrave323d ago

>calls someone dumb
>does it by saying "you're sound dumb"

Task failed successfully

Terry_B322d ago

A SF Hater eh? Fight me in SF 2,3 4 or 5 and you will regret that stupid comment ;)

eyyy max xD

one of the very few streamers i can actually watch without it being cringe and awful ha.

GhostScholar322d ago

The content of IV was severely lacking when it launched. It got better over time.
