Why Sony Should Bring the Ico Collection to PS3

AC: Sony angered many perspective buyers when they decided to remove backwards compatibility of Playstation 2 games from the newer
Playstation 3 models. However, the recently announced God of War Collection, which composes of enhance Playstation 2 ports for the Playstation 3, brings new hope. One of the most requested games hoping to receive the same treatment as the God of War Collection is Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.

I still play Shadow on my PS3 now! One of the few PS2 games that hooked me enough to make me finish it!

sakura20095340d ago (Edited 5340d ago )

because ico is the best game ever made. im 13 and i was lucky enough to experience ico because my dad is a gamer and he own both ico and shadow of the collosus. never gotten into shadow of the collosus. i didnt like it, because their was no relationship between the main character and his horse. in ico, theres a relationship between yorda and ico. you can see the relationship. ico and yorda holding hands while running away from monsters, ico and pulling yorda from that dark portal, ico protected yorday from those monsters and when you save the game. ico and yorday sit on a couch.. XD awww. how can anyone not like that part of ico.

DasBunker5340d ago (Edited 5340d ago )

with all the pressure people and ueda himself are putting on this, plus the good feedback about the GOW collection..

im almost 100% sure this will happen

George Sears5340d ago (Edited 5340d ago )

I might had played another SotC but I am pretty sure the horse and the main character had a close relationship. Obviously not a bestiality type of thing going on but damn, Agro helped him with a couple of Colossi. Not to mention that he also was the main way of transportation to take him towards the colossi. And at the ending, when he fell off the bridge.... tell me he wasn't saddened when he fell.

At least Agro was more useful than just being a key to open doors. (Yorda)

Anyways, SotC was all about the main character and his quest to revive Mono. It was about the boy and the girl, not the boy and the horse.

i have both the US and UK version of ICO
and SotC.

i'd love the remastered one to be the UK version though with the extra stuff

cmrbe5340d ago

However, i was 25 when i played SOTC and i tell you there is an emotional realationship. The key is in the animation of argo. This is why i respect Ueda so much. He is able to convey emotion in such a subltle way compare to his peers.

As much as I like those games, I don't think it's as necessary as remastering/rereleasing God of War I and II. The games mentioned in the article are not part of any trilogy. The upcoming Last Guardian doesn't require any familiarity with the background story, while God of War III can be much more appreciated with the background knowledge of God of War I and II.

But I'll be there to buy those games if they do decide to rerelease them in high definition. =D

mugoldeneagle035340d ago

I only ever played 30 minutes in SOTC before my PS2 broke, and I just never got the chance to replay it. Never played ICO either.

They dont even have to be remastered, I just want to play them!

presto7175340d ago

So this would be a good time for me to jump in. It would be nice to play these in hd and get some trophies while I'm at it. I never played Kingdom hearts either. Damn. What was I doing? Oh yeah... Tekken.

Its so funny how much the ps3 has gotten better over the past couple of years. I initially hated this generation of gaming because things were not going too well, but I think I'm starting to warm up to it. Good to be a gamer.

Orange5340d ago

I liked SoTC when you came upon the colossi, but getting around the environment with that chuggy frame rate wore me down. I'd love for that to be fixed.

GameGambits5340d ago

Last Guardian will by itself garner a lot of people who want to play it. It's a good method to capitalize on interest in Last Guardian by releasing the previous works to those curious. Free money is always good.

I for one will gladly buy an enhanced version of those two games for 40 dollars and I hope it too will have a demo like the God of War collection is. :)

cmrbe5340d ago

There is a connection between ICO and SOTC. There will be a connection to TLG as well.

pippoppow5340d ago

I wonder what the connection TLG will have to previous games. I'm sure the ending will be interesting.

Armyless5340d ago

SotC was the prequel to ICO? Right?

Well it seems there is a good possibility it will happen. Speaking to Kotaku:

"I do have an interest in that," Ueda said during our Friday chat. "Next week, I'll have a meeting [about the possibility] ... But it might not be so easy, because, with both titles we really stretched the limits of the PS2. It's complex. So it's not such an easy transfer to the PS3. But I want to discuss it."

George Sears5340d ago

If this indeed happens then I hope some respectful team does the port because I don't want Team ICO to halt The Last Guardians production just to remake the game for the PS3.

swiftshot935340d ago

agreed.

As much as I want a remastered version of their old games, Id rather have a speedier release of the Last Guardian. I already have both games so I can wait. If this game does turn out to be released in Fall 2010, it'll turn out to be the longest developed SCE game of all time since Gran Turismo.

Lavalamp5340d ago

Having both the God of War Collection and the Ico Collection available for the PS3 would be very big stepping stones in the advancement of finally emulating all of the PS2 games onto its successor. I plan on purchasing every collection that comes out. Here's hoping this particular collection is made into a reality.

Daman Shelley from NoobFeed writes - Dragon's Dogma is truly a one-of-a-kind game, and there really is no other game like it, but there are a few that come close. gold_drake119d ago

cant wait for it, feb and march are busy busy months ha.

SovereignSnaKe119d ago

I can still hear the title screen music in my head after nearly 12 years. Loved every minute of it.

MrNinosan119d ago

I have no issues filling my time til DD2.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink, Infinite Wealth and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will probably me more than enough.
More terrified I won't be done in time.

DivineHand125119d ago

Try not to burn yourself out before the game releases. This is going to be a long and immersive RPG like the first one.

The games in this article are all great and I believe the people who are excited for Dragons Dogma 2 probably already played most of those games.

For now, I recommend you prepare yourself for long play sessions if you will be picking up Dragons Dogma at launch.
