Wii HD Is Here Thanks To Sony PS3

Nintendo Wii has had incredible success with their motion controller gimmick but now new challenges are here and Nintendo is in for a fight. Microsofts Project Natal and Sonys Magic Wand are ready to expand the motion control market and also take some market share away from Nintendo but, Sony seems to be in the best position to do this and here's why.

An Online Toaster is here thanks to the Xbox 360.

Blackcanary5343d ago

but sony still need to come out with a motion stick with a joy stick on it cause holding the DS3 still doesn't feel right no matter how many times i try to hold it in one hand.

Dragun6195343d ago (Edited 5343d ago )

Honestly, PS3 wand shouldn't be seen as some kind of a Wii Remote. The PS3 motion controller moves within a 3D Space along with it being way more accurate.

Also the idea of Third Publishers trying to take advantage of this opportunity to port bad Wii games disturbs me. The Only Wii games I believe may work with the PS3 Audience would probably be Mad World, Okami, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, Monster Hunter 3, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom.

Though I hope Developers choose to make new games with the PS3 wand than port their old wii games. Last thing I want on my PS3 is games like Pimp My Ride and The Naked Brothers Band: The Video Game.

I have a ps3 and a wii. Allow me to tell you what my friends with ps3s want in addition to the titles you mentioned.

No More Heroes, No More Heroes 2, Little King's Story, Mercury Meltdown Revolution, Deadly Creatures, TMNT Smashup (made by SSB studio and very similar), Dawn of Discovery, Zack and Wiki, EA Grand Slam Tennis/Virtua Tennis with motion controls, Real Heroes: Firefighter, Tiger Woods Golf with motion controls, Ghostbusters wit motion controls, HOTD 2 and 3, HOTD Overkill, Geometry Wars, Sin and Punishment 2, World of Goo, Radiant Dawn, Red Steel 2, Boom Blox, Da Blob, Bikini Zombie Slayers (this game is awesome and on xbox too). You won't believe this but they also think the conduit is awesome as they watch me play it all the time.

Now add a bunch of JRPG style games I always ignore at the local store and about 10 more Nintendo first-party titles. Battalion Wars, SMG, new Mario, wii sports resort, zelda, SSBB, metroid, punchout...

You guys have littlebigplanet. There is no defensible way to claim that ps3 owners won't buy childish games with excellent gameplay. So even titles like raving rabbids have potential to sell as ps3 titles (they're surprisingly fun games).

The core PS3 owners hate motion controls. Lair is amazing and you guys missed that - my friend who hardly games had no trouble playing it. If you guys can't appreciate something that unique there's no wonder you overlooked the best motion control games like boom blox, da blob, world of goo...

I own 24 wii games and had 10 I loved but finished and traded in. I want many more.

You're right I remember that.

Also. What kind of idiot forgets that competition is what drives this industry. If Intel had a monopoly on CPU's and Nvidia on GPU's....We'd still be at ps2 graphics...

Competition is how the gaming industry evolves. Not some stupid "Zomg they iz scurred of X console." It's a phase of the industry.

btw. HHG really isn't a fanboy. He's more focused on his hit counter.

jack_burt0n5343d ago

oobob great post,

I agree nothing wrong with the gf using the ps3 for a workout or singstar or lbp its also an HD media centre.

Sony had plenty of third party stuff flooding on the ps2 never effected 1st 2nd stuff. Plus the tech is so accurate but what the hell with no analog.

Syronicus5343d ago

Now with their better version of motion controls, they will hit up the PS2 market folks that are waiting to make the move. And I can assure you, Sony will have far better games than the Wii with the HD res on Sony's side. Not only will they look awesome but they will play cool too.

shane0255342d ago

Nintendo does it : "it's lame and gimmicky", Sony does it : "it's awesome, Sony's so innovative"

Blackcanary5342d ago

i love it i just think that the PS3 Motion wand what ever they are gonna call it is better stop addressing like its everyone on N4G that thinks its gimmicky.

kunit22c5342d ago

Its more like Motion Sensing is here thanks to Nintendo, Also I find Nintendo's Wii remote and Wii Motion Plus better, Why? You get 1:1 just like the PS Wand, and It doesn't Require a big ball on the end of it, also you may say "but you have to buy the motion plus add on" well with the PSWand You have to have that and the PSeye, Sony's controller is like those suits that people wear...
http://www.artinstitutes.ed...
Its exactly like that and it uses the PSeye to track where the ball is, the ball on the end of the remote is one of the tracking balls on this guy's suit. If you ask me Nintendo's Technology that they are using seems more advanced. Also the PSWand has yet to get something like the nuchuck, but im sure it will eventually come out. and despite how much ive been going against the PSWand I look forward to it because ive been wanting motion controls for PS3 for a while, and yes im a proud fan of motion controls.

kunit22c5342d ago

Didn't Sony's presentation seem a little similar to this?
http://www.youtube.com/watc...
I think so... but yet Nintendo's still doesn't require some awkward looking ball on the end of it.

Microsoft had a good idea but fumbled it again.

Project Spark idea was decent but they quickly gave up ..
LBP was wonderful

ApocalypseShadow6d ago

Microsoft in a nutshell. Always tried to poach Sony employees, games, 3rd party games and devices like the depth camera that was turned into Kinect but was running on PS2 before Xbox 360. Wouldn't be surprised they wanted LBP. Just like they worked behind the scenes pushing the MLB to bring Sony's baseball game to Xbox instead of making their own.
https://www.playstationlife...

They didn't spend years trying to develop their own baseball game. They wanted Sony's game.

They're scum.

Zachmo1825d ago

Microsoft didn't force MLB on Xbox. MLB gave Sony 2 options either go multiplat or risk losing the license.

Rynxie4d ago

And why do you think MLB said that? I believe Ms approached MLB.

ApocalypseShadow4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

Totally ridiculous comment.

The only exclusivity Sony had was to their own creation of The Show. Microsoft could have paid the MLB for the license just like Sony did and made their own baseball game.

Microsoft instead, groomed MLB for years in trying to poach Sony's game and bring it to Xbox. They're worth 3 TRILLION dollars. You think that's not enough money to make their own baseball game? Don't be delusional.

Microsoft spun it like they always do and told the media that they had to trust Sony with their hardware. After they put Sony in that position of not having a choice. Either go multiplatform or stop making one of their successful games. That's a no win scenario.

And what did Microsoft do? They didn't try to sell the game to the Xbox community. They put it on game pass to hurt Sony. Pushing the idea of why buy games that are $70 when you can play them in their cheap service for $10. It was a dirty tactic.

You fell for the Kool aid drink Microsoft served you instead of spitting it out. Hope it tasted good because you were fooled by Phil and the gang.

Xbox executive Sara Bond has told Axios that Microsoft spent a number of years trying to get MLB The Show onto Xbox consoles. And when it finally succeeded in breaking off PlayStation’s long-held exclusivity, the company had to “trust” Sony with pre-release Xbox Series X/S consoles.

Bond revealed that MLB The Show “always came up” in conversations between Microsoft and the Major League Baseball organization. “We always said, ‘We love this game. It would be a huge opportunity to bring it to Xbox.'” she recalled. However, when Microsoft’s efforts materialized, it put the company in an awkward situation where it had to send in pre-release consoles to a rival company.

Lying to yourself is unbecoming.

Article link tells you all you need to know in Sarah Bond's own words.

Hereandthere4d ago

They were too cheap/inept/lazy to develop their own mlb game, so they port begged for years and bribed the mlb to make the show multiplatform. Like i said many times, xbox brought nothing to the table their 24 years, ZERO.

ApocalypseShadow3d ago

At least you and others get it. Note drank the Kool aid and asked for seconds thinking it was refreshing.

Most don't even know how it all played out but it's there in black and white for all to see. Microsoft brought it up for years until the MLB forced Sony's hand. It was a win win for Microsoft. Kill one reason to buy a PlayStation or kill the game by dropping it in a cheap service to kill Sony's sales numbers on PlayStation.

"However, Healey said Media Molecule wouldn't have felt right doing that, adding it would have been "morally corrupt"."

Major kudos to Media Molecule for being an upright studio with principles.

Cockney3d ago

They chose well, Sony gave them the backing to pursue their dreams with no restrictions even tho their games especially dreams have very niche appeal. Media molecule and Sony deserve respect for this in an age of risk averse publishing.

RNTody5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

Great, more stories like this please. Show the last of the zombies holding the line what we've been saying for years: Microsoft is anti competition, anti industry and has no interest in making games at all.

But hey, at least there's an Xbox Games Showcase to look forward to, right?

Inverno5d ago

Well considering SONY just killed the series, LBP would've been dead by now either way. Though MM probably wouldn't exist by now either, so I'm glad they stayed with SONY, hopefully they don't get shut down any time soon or ever honestly.

Inverno5d ago

They shut down the servers, that's millions of user created levels gone. That and dead are pretty much the same, it's also been years since 3 and they cancelled HUB soooo.

4d ago
fsfsxii4d ago

They shutdown the servers because no one was playing, no one in the community cared about the user created levels so why keep them up? Wtf you guys would never succeed in running a business.

Inverno4d ago

Yea dood no one was playing so they shut off the servers. Cause people with enough common sense can't just Google why they were actually shut of, right?
