A really awesome puzzle game that I wish would come to PSN and XBLA. In the western world Puyo Puyo was rebranded Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine.
Tetris is great, but this is awesome. So much fun building up those chains and loading up your opponents screen with a mountain of garbage.
It was also branded as Kirby's Ghost Trap on the SNES. The SNES also had it in plain Puyo branding, but AFAIK was not released in English speaking countries. I downloaded a ROM of Super Puyo Puyo 2 Remix. That was one of the best ever.
Puyo Puyo is a long-running SEGA puzzle franchise that could be described as a cute version of Tetris. It stars a wacky cast of kawaii anime characters and replaces Tetris blocks with jelly beans. The seventh entry in the series is playable here on the show floor.
What better way to promote a game than to use popular, pretty celebrities in the ads? Well, there are probably many better ways. Oh well!
