Renewed Motion Controller design shown at TGS 09

PS3-Sense writes: It was pretty obvious that when the Motion Controller was first shown during E3 2009 it wasn't the final design. But the controller showed during presentations at the Tokyo GameShow 2009 probably is. PS3-Sense compared the two designs, and click the link below to see what the differences are.

Second controller with analogue stick on the way I hope.

renegade5328d ago (Edited 5328d ago )

I hope . Is difficult to have the ds3 at the same time as i seen in re5 demostration of the motion controller.

DominusRebellis5328d ago

That things looks sort of like a.....

dirthurts5328d ago

That you still had to use the ps3 controller in the left hand...
or at least so far. I know it's still in prototype stage.

shadow27975328d ago

There should only be one controller, and it should have an analogue stick. When using two then you would have two analogue sticks. And that way you're not stuck with a useless nun-chuck on games that don't need it. Owning two would allow you to do multiplayer or single player (like the bow and arrow demo).

You could also do FPS games and other games with one controller. Move with the stick (using your thumb), and turn by turning the controller. You could do co-op 3d games (instead of co-op on rails aka shooting galleries).

That would be the smart thing to do. But, at the very least, there does need to be an analogue peripheral. Holding a D3 and a motion controller is not acceptable. It would be nice if there weren't a ton of accessories for this, so I prefer my original idea. Hopefully Sony will be smart about this.

RememberThe3575328d ago

On stage at TGS they were using both the dualshock in one hand and the motion controller in the other. But I don't think it was confirmed that you will need it to play or if they will have something else to use. Seemed to me that you'll just have to use the dualshoack sometimes.

Aquarius5328d ago (Edited 5328d ago )

Everyone, I don't care, that says its a dildo are not using their head straight or is a 360 only owner being spiteful. The Wands do not look like a dildo. How ironic, I just called it wands first and foremost. I hope its called that :)

How the hell is the top of the wand i.e. (ORB) shaped like a dildo? Is the tip of a dildo shaped like that? You know a man's...
ANS=NO.

The only thing that needs adjusting now, is to remove that pink filter and change that central button into an analougue stick ( >>>a pop-up one?<<< ) because game development will most likely be put on a halt.

mastiffchild5328d ago

The DS3 looks amateur, isn't comfy, would be too awwgward for kids to use and only has the adcantage of being the cheap option, imo.

If they want this to be successful they'll need something else with an analogue stick I'm afraid as the DS3 isn't going to appeal as the secong controller-why choose to use it as one of a pair when you can use it on it's own in the way it was meant to be used anyway? Ninchick or similar is desperately needed and Sony's comments about this being a cheap option worry me no end and if the DS is their only option I fear all the R&D for their wands will be wasted.

Thing is there's literally loads of different Wii nunchucks made by third party controller designers which cost US peanuts so why haven't Sony knocked smething up to hold the analogue if they wanted one? Would be so easy and the fact they haven't makes me think the DS might be their real anwer to the problem and it makes their MC scheme the least attractive if this is the case-can't believe this is a problem being talked about as it's so obvious this isn't a goer that Sony must be blind if they really think it's the best way-why even show someone using the DS3?

None of this makes any sense and I'd hoped that Sony would've said what they were doing after the press asked about the DS3 thing but they didn't hace much if an answer which makes me think there may not be another one at all. Unbelievable, but with nothing else to show or even mentioned what are we meant to imagine?

danthegardner5328d ago

They should just make a motion controller with 2 shoulder buttons an analog stick and 4 face buttons. If you use 2 of them you could play any other ps3 game. It would be like a dualshock split in two.

whoelse5328d ago

I think the first one looks better.

DaTruth5328d ago

They should put everything that is on the DS3, on the wand. That means there should be one with face buttons and one with D-pad(or face buttons D-pad combination) They should put a trigger on each and a shoulder button. They can drop the D-pad at best OR the shoulder button, but that is the most stripped down it can be.

This is the only way to make it hardcore compatible!

Highwayman5328d ago

Aquarius.

Apparently you haven't seen many dildos, have you?

I'm not fond of it's design, but I am excited as far as the technology goes for this particular motion control system.

DominusRebellis5328d ago

as long as it has good vibration I think it'll get my girlfriend to spend time with me when I game on

beardpapa5328d ago

My friend and I went shopping and we stopped by Brookstone. We both came upon this product

http://www.brookstone.com/c...

Now if you saw it in person, the shape and design of it plus the pink tip looks very very much like a d___o. It even has three vibration settings and is waterproof. Anyway, she bought one for laughs.

WenisWagon5328d ago

I think the pink ball at the end is the part that vibrates.

MEsoJD5328d ago

Yeah they market as a massager but we all know what its intended purpose is.

HolyOrangeCows5328d ago

It NEEDS a control stick for the experiences I want in a motion controlled game.

Electricear5328d ago

because there is a major feature missing, a wrist strap. Far to many TV's, doors, windows, lamps and people got mauled when wii motes slipped out of a sweaty hand. Neither of these designs show wrist straps, thus I have trouble believing they are the final design, but it does look like the newer design is closer to a production model.

bobdog6265327d ago

And you guy's know it .Sony don't put this Thing out until you get it Right.Put all your Best people on this and make it work. This is not the Best you can do.PS3 Slim should show you guys the Right way to do thing's this gen not this.

f7897905327d ago

Looks like some exotic vibrator.

YogiBear5327d ago

I think they should do away with the motion control project completely.

The shorter one looks a lot better then the "finalised" version. It even had a smaller sphere!

sinncross5328d ago

Are you kidding me?

The new one looks better shaped.

Shane Kim5328d ago

Doesn't matter. It still looks like a dildo.

Foxgod5328d ago

O yeah, surely doesnt look like a dildo anymore -_-

I remember all the people on n4g screaming, ITS ONLY A PROTOTYPE.
No more prototype, and still a dildo.

At least Natal is awesome, cuz you are the controller, instead of having a dildo peripheral.

XxBarretxX5328d ago

i am not a fanboy as i own both consoles but natal is pure casual. No buttons to switch things such as grenades or anytihng as well as some terrible lag as shown in the latest videos. Sorry but Natal will fail

Foxgod5328d ago (Edited 5328d ago )

If it will, it still wont fail as hard as the sony dildo.
Cuz at least Natal got people like Kojima backing it.

You dont see Kojima talking how bad he wants to get his hands on the sony dildo.

Panthers5328d ago

They will both fail. Both are trying to play catch up to the Wii which is dumb. If I want motion control, I will get the Wii, which I dont.

Foxgod5328d ago (Edited 5328d ago )

The wii doesnt have kojima ;)

Or Peter Molyneux

Natal got the masterminds backing it.
So if theres any system that got a chance for success, then its the system that got the great minds backing it.

@below
Kojima and Molyneux are not responsible for RROD you know....
They are responsible for games.
So plz come with something relevant next time, youre just trowing random rambling my way.

And youre tired of the sexual references?
Then send an angry letter to Sony, they designed it like that, its design is massive fail.
And if you cant draw a line between the wand and a dildo, then you must be the most asexual gamer ever.

5328d ago
Serg5328d ago

What's your sudden obsession with Kojima? He was all over the Wii before it came out, was so eager to make a game for it, nothing happened to this day. So, how exactly is he backing it? By saying he likes it?

Molyneux is a moron, he disappoints everytime he opens his mouth. He puts out decent games but tries to sell them as gods gift to gamers. Black and White was disappointing, not because it sucked, but because it didn't deliver half the stuff Molyneux has promised. The first Fable sucked bad, but Mr Molyneux said it was the best RPG ever! It couldn't hold a candle to the Gothic series. No open world, the moral choice system was incomplete, some Monsters could keep you on the ground until you die, no chance to get up. It was an avarage game, but not that god sent holy grail of RPG goodness he promised. And he just can't shut his mouth, "Milo is like a real boy", yeah right Mr Overpromise, I believe you now, after countless lies I truly feel you got it right this time.

Foliage5328d ago (Edited 5328d ago )

With Natal YOU are the dildo. You are a dildo without a cause, since the only time an xbot will ever get near a vagina in their lives was when they dropped out of their mom.

Veneno5328d ago

Seems to know all about the dildos. Does it look like the one in your dresser drawer, foxgod?

Microsoft_Spokesman5328d ago

Foxgod is just excited to rape Milo.

Erotic Sheep5327d ago (Edited 5327d ago )

Oh ok Foxgod, so you've been claiming for ages how MGS4 sucks and how its just a movie. But now that Kojima is working for Natal, you suddenly praise him?

GTFO NOOB

Are you anticipating Gay Tony's release Foxgod?

Panthers5328d ago

I havent kept up with this, but why is there a ball on it? It looks so dumb.

somedude58925328d ago

The ball is part of the sensor to track your hand's movement if I remember right. But yea it dose look kinda dumb.

Sunny_D5328d ago

In the developer's video, It was talking about how the ball changes color to indicate the target on screen. For example, If the target was red, the ball would light up red indicating attack the red enemy. If the enemy is green, the ball would light up green to indicate attacking green.

spectyre5328d ago (Edited 5328d ago )

but I guess that is what is tracked by the PSEye. Accelerometers and gyroscopes will be used to determine how the controller is turned and moved but the ball is used to determine where the controller is located in a 3d space.
The color changing led's are just an added bonus.

As I said, it looks kind of dumb, but it is the main reason the controller is as accurate as it is, so I guess I will live with it.

DaTruth5328d ago

Who cares what it looks like???

Are you taking it to the club?

Just let it play right!

kwyjibo5328d ago

The ball is there so the camera has a focus point to detect depth. Knowing that the ball is a constant size allows the machine to calculate how far away it is from the camera.

somedude58925328d ago

Yep, really dose look like a dildo. I will be getting one for my GF when is comes out. This is going to be better than the Wii-Brator!

Chubear5328d ago (Edited 5328d ago )

If that's the kind of gifts you get your "GF" then I truly feel sorry for her being with you... but then again, she's with you so she probably deserves all she gets.

somedude58925328d ago

lol... I'm kidding really. That would be messed up if I did that. I would feel sorry for her too. haha :P

SeanScythe5328d ago

But if she asked you for one I bet you would be more then happy to get it for her.

Ar Tonelico Qoga: Knell Of Ar Ciel Retro Review – Love Conquers All

Gary Green said: You’ll be forgiven if you haven’t heard of the Ar Tonelico trilogy. The previous two games arrived so late in the PS2’s life-cycle that they simply went unnoticed. While most were tinkering with their shiny new PS3s, Ar Tonelico: Melody of Elemia and Ar Tonelico II: Melody of Metafalica were being ‘returned to sender’ by your local Game stores. Luckily, you won’t need to have played them to understand and appreciate this third and final chapter, Qoga (pronounced k-yoga) tells the story of a racial war between humans and Reyvateils, a breed of biologically produced female cyborgs capable of reproduction, while still having a digital mind.

Oh my god. I kinda wish this would get a remaster on PS5, it would be awesome. One of my favorite games on PS3.

That and 3D Dot Game Heroes. It's a shame that some stuff is stuck on PS3.

Knightofelemia2d ago

Ar Tonelico 3 is good I still prefer the first AT game. The music is solid in all the games and Akiko Shikata is a very talented singer bringing life to the game. Only annoying part is well I find is Saki I always choose Finnel or Tyria. KOEI so needs to HD remaster the franchise along with Ar Nosurge and Ciel Nosurge since it never came to North America. I would day one the Ar Toneliceo games and Ar Nosurge if they were remastered.

TheColbertinator2d ago

I still have the limited edition of Qoga unopened. Unfortunately it never went up in value like I had hoped all these years.

Used to own all these quirky JRPG on ps3 good times. Wish I would have kept them all

Mugen Souls Retro Review – Sexy Demon Space Adventure

Gary Green said: We have a juxtaposition of 2D and 3D visuals, flashy turn-based combat, quirky anime characters with cheeky dialogue with plenty of partial nudity; Yes, this is a Compile Heart JRPG. Whilst the engine is borrowed from Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2, Mugen Souls is more of a Disgaea spin-off. It’s not a strategy RPG as such, it merely sits within Disgaea’s ever-expanding universe (Multiverse? Netherverse? Your guess is as good as mine). You won’t find cameos though, since Mugen Souls is a franchise which aims to stand on its own two feet.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies3d ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken3d ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing694d ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker3d ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing693d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt3d ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken3d ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.
