:)

Hope to hear some more info @ TGS maybe like some new Characters or improved the story. Though I'm glad to hear that they improved playability and gave the game a more warmer outlook.

all the rpg's are coming back home

with improvements ty ms for funding some more great ps3 games.

jjl5340d ago

Hope that includes bug fixes as well. This feels a lot like the "Director's Cut" of Star Ocean 3, but more changes. In fact, the colour of the logo for International is fuschia which was the same for Star Ocean 3 Director's Cut.

No amount of upgrades will fix the horrible story, dialogue, and voice acting. Glad they will put the Japanese voices on this one though to make the last bit more bearable, but after completing the 360 version I don't think I can go back to this knowing how piss poor the story and its contents are.

Redempteur5340d ago (Edited 5340d ago )

for the voice acting .. i'll put the japanese voices ..
for the dialogue i guess more events will do the trick ( since there is a new character )
For the story ..well it's not THAT bad and since Star Ocean games main dish is the battle system i really don't care

GameGambits5340d ago

I fully agree. The battle system is pure genius. Every Star Ocean game delivers a further step into perfecting an already perfect formula. It's a great mesh of stylish action gameplay into the still necessary strategy and juggling other RPGs have.

My favorite game of all time still to this day is Star Ocean: The Second Story. So I hope no one is pinning me as a hater of some sort against Tri-Ace, Enix, or the SO games, but SO4 was the worst of all 4 story wise. It made me cringe more than the port of my favorite to PSP. The PSP version had horrible generic anime voice overs, generic anime cut scenes, and they changed the art style into cutsie wootsie dumb anime that doesn't even sit well with Japanese anime enthusiasts.

SO4 granted starts off at a solid pace story wise, but then just derails close to 1/3 of the way through as the lead character cries. He's emo the whole game for god sakes. One of the extra endings lets him cry again. He also cried at another point during the adventure. Dialogue within cut scenes wasn't just poorly acted out it was just monotone and lacked any real sense of adventure going on.

The music and the gameplay are TOP notch. Of course the synthesis craft is also very well done on it too, but SO2's was a bit better because it was deeper. That one also gave you a sense of accomplishment since you could fail your creations which lead to a better reward feeling once you made really good gear.

I know I got stealth disagrees because I'm laying it on thick, but being subtle about a game that only deserves a rent is not what I do. Times are tough, cash doesn't flow for everyone, and if by some chance someone reads what I'm saying and it SAVES them 60 dollars vs. the 7-10 to just rent it and come to the same conclusion as I did then you're welcome.(I played SO4 all the way through by the way and I still give it a 7/10 at most, because SO2 set the bar so high. Even SO3, only failed in the last home stretch of the game and earns itself a buy, but SO4 does NOT)

Anyone disagreeing with me actually play this game from start to finish like me? It's nothing special, and it's a rental. If there was a RPG to be stoked about going from 360 to PS3 it would be Lost Odyssey---that was worth every red cent.

Redempteur5340d ago

I personnally prefer SO3 battle system ..it's more unforgiving and the learning curve is steep . but my overall enjoyment dodging all these attack managing HP death and MP death was funnier for me .

i'll give an honorable mention SO : first departure battle system who reminded me of the "tales of" games in a GOOD way .. fun , fast , simple ..too bad it was quite hard to do combos but still it was good

SO 4 battle system seems like a good mix ..and since it 'll be filled with action and fixes from the 360 version ( like the targetting system ) i'll be happy .hell I'm HAppy !

PlayStation Plus is a secret paradise for RPG fans

From games that digitaltrends DeAngelo Epps has always wanted to play but missed out on, like Odin Sphere, to newer titles that he'd love to re-experience like Yakuza: Like a Dragon, there was enough there to justify diving back in. And those titles aren’t even a small percent of what’s available here. Vanillaware titles, Square Enix games, NIS franchises he’d never even heard of — there’s a whole lot to dig into.

PSPlus is Amazing for RPGs and NIS America, Square Enix and Vanillaware games are perfect for PSPortal.

LG_Fox_Brazil161d ago

Not really a 'secret' but a paradise indeed, I just finished Soul Hackers 2, pretty good, and started Labyrinth of Galleria and I am having a blast. Tons of great RPGs in the PS4/PS5 family

Mr_cheese161d ago

Secret is the click buzzword. Can't have a title without bait these days.

Perfect for playing on the Portal, since rpgs can be such timesinks. For those people who can't stay glued to the TV, it's good to give some freedom around the house, out on the porch or whatever. I haven't picked up a Portal yet, bc of life priorities, but I definitely anticipate picking one up asap and playing more rpgs!

ziggyzinfirion161d ago

I'm currently playing Final Fantasy VII:Remake for the first time on PS5 and I am freaking blown away by this game so far. I don't know why I waited this long or due to my huge backlog but had to be honest, this game exceeded my expectations.

OtterX161d ago

Yea, story pacing aside, the combat system is pretty killer, especially if you slow it down to play it more like a tactical turned based jrpg!

I actually wish FF16 had gone this route, instead of the DMC route. The FF7:R system gave enough action for those who wanted to play that way, while still appeasing us old school turn based jrpg fans.

Glad you're enjoying!

crazyCoconuts161d ago

Some of the best in game HDR I've ever seen in that game. I liked it a lot too. My first final fantasy game believe it or not

A beginner's guide to Star Ocean

Star Ocean is one of those series that did, and still does, things that others don’t. Think of it as a JRPG for fans of series like Star Trek. The casts regularly involve people from more advanced civilizations getting involved with those who are still growing, even though there are various measures in place to allegedly stop that sort of interference. As a result, people get energy weapons, cyborgs, magic and people who can turn into cats. It is a lot to take in.

Let's see here. There was another classic JRPG series that started this SCI Fi. It was Phantasy Star by Sega. Before Star Ocean, there was Phantasy Star 1-4 on Sega consoles

a beginners guide to star ocean....after playing the 3rd game
you've been told that the universe (SO lore) is just a ------------------- and close the book

VsAssassin1617d ago

Yeah, that plot twist didn't work for me. I wish SO3 isn't canon, but it is. Anyway, SE can just sweep SO3 under the rug perhaps by soft rebooting the franchise.

Nerdmaster1617d ago

The first two were so great, among the top RPGs on 16 and 32-bit era. I wonder why it went downhill after that...

LiViNgLeGaCY1617d ago

I still regard the 2nd Story as one of the greatest JRPG's of all time.

ChronoJoe1617d ago

Play the PS1 game and then the PS2 game and then the rest probably aren't worth your time unless you're a superfan of the series. I think that's all you need to know.
