Former Xbox 360 exclusive Star Ocean: The Last Hope may be further along in terms of development for the PS3 than we thought as the game is meant to be playable at TGS.

The title should be "Star Ocean 4 PS3, the superior version, playable at TGS". :)

Pennywise5342d ago

The title should be "Star Ocean 4 PS3, is out of beta and playable at TGS

El Botto5342d ago

We have Star Ocean 4 superior version, xbots...you dont.
We have Uncharted 2 btw. You dont, haha.

Haha

I know what you are wondering: "please, can we betatest Uncharted 2 for you"

The answer is no, xbots. No betatesting needed for TRIPLE A PS3 exclusives.

54percent5341d ago

They should rename it from "Star ocean: last hope" to "Star ocean : we lol'd @ microsoft"

Bumpmapping5342d ago

Title should be Starocean 4 the complete HD edition PS3 playable at TGS.

DonCorneo5342d ago

LMAO!!1!

i like it when they remake old game and make them HD - like God of War collection and this.

LMAO!!1!

Erotic Sheep5342d ago

O_o Never expected it THAT quick..

sinncross5342d ago

Indeed, very quick!

I just hope they announce a couple more extras for the PS3 version to make it more enticing.

On the other hand I wonder if any interviewer will be willing to ask about The Last remnant PS3. Surely Square can't leave it as vaporware now.

And I know many ppl say that they shouldn't bother considering that its a terrible game. But they could easily make the PS3 version an enhanced version of the PC version which itself was much enhanced over the 360 version.

I think there is potential here considering at one stage TLR PS3 was higher on the famitsu reader wanted list then SO4 xbox360.

Anyways, good to see SO4 on the PS3. :)

iamtehpwn5342d ago

This game was more then likely in development only 6-12 months after the Xbox360 version started--Hell If not the SAME damn time.

The exclusively of this game was nothing more than a test (along with Infinite Undiscovery and The last Discovery) to test the Xbox360 market and the western market.

Square Enix has extremely poor and dumb leadership.
But they're not completely retarded.
This game had to have a Ps3 release eventually for the sake of profits.

Dragun6195342d ago

Well how bout that, They probably been working on the PS3 version ever since they released the Xbox360, viewing all the flaws, glitches and the the reception of the game on Xbox360 essentially making it a beta.

Glad SquareEnix is slowly regaining its confidence in the PS3, Hopefully, they'll release The Last Remnant and Star Ocean IV:The Last Hope International before Final Fantasy XIII releases.

"Star Ocean 4 PS3 Playable at TGS"

its like "IN YOURE FACE MICROSOFT"
lol

DaTruth5342d ago (Edited 5342d ago )

Star Ocean 4 for PS3, playable at TGS.... on one disk!

Oh, wait, maybe that was Lost Odyssey? Never mind then!

Enate5342d ago (Edited 5342d ago )

Believe me man I'm a huge JRPG fan but the after getting my new PC an trying out the Last Remnant. That is one game I don't think you want to play, I was bored to death. Not to mention if it wasn't for forced Vsync the screen tearing would have been unbearable.

I thought this was never coming to the ps3

gaffyh5342d ago

Basically, when the game was announced, it was announced exclusive for PS3, but after a while Square switched it to 360 exclusive (for a check from MS). They used that money to fund the game's development, but always intended to release the game on PS3.

Montrealien5342d ago

Do you have a link or any proof for that matter about MS maying square? I would be interested to read that.

/on topic

Its a decent JRPG, if you missed out on it when it came out for the 360 and are a JRPG fan, this is a great game for you.

raztad5342d ago

@montrealien

I guess he doent, but I think none of us can prove it didnt happen. Besides, SE is a business I dont think they dropped the PS3 sales (much bigger in Japan than xbox's) just because they felt like doing it.

SpoonyRedMage5342d ago

I think Tri-ace has something to do with the decision as well though. They'd just finished IU which is funded and owned by MS(they were originally going to publish it too) and SO4 is based off the IU engine and one of the guys from Tri-ace said something about making it a 360 game because they already had the engine working. He also said that it might go on the PS3 but they didn't have any plans in the same interview. Seems someone made plans.:)

gaffyh5342d ago (Edited 5342d ago )

@montrealien - No, I'm guessing from that Japanese developer's blog where the guys said the same thing. So I'd expect that that is what happened, or something to that effect.

Edit: Although now that I think about it, I think that guy was talking about TOV. Star Ocean 4 is probably the best JRPG that Square Enix has published this generation for next gen console, but it still is miles behind stuff like Lost Odyssey imo.

Btw i didn't disagree with you.

iamtehpwn5342d ago

However, According to the developer of ToV, they made it a time Xbox360 so that Microsoft would pay for some of the Development costs, then re-release it for Playstation and have almost pure profit.

rockleex5342d ago

Tales of Vesperia developers were paid. They said it in an interview.

Although we don't have confirmation from Tri-Ace whether they were also paid or not, its very likely they were. Otherwise they wouldn't knowingly release a JRPG on the system with barely any JRPG fans.

PlayStation Plus is a secret paradise for RPG fans

From games that digitaltrends DeAngelo Epps has always wanted to play but missed out on, like Odin Sphere, to newer titles that he'd love to re-experience like Yakuza: Like a Dragon, there was enough there to justify diving back in. And those titles aren’t even a small percent of what’s available here. Vanillaware titles, Square Enix games, NIS franchises he’d never even heard of — there’s a whole lot to dig into.

PSPlus is Amazing for RPGs and NIS America, Square Enix and Vanillaware games are perfect for PSPortal.

LG_Fox_Brazil161d ago

Not really a 'secret' but a paradise indeed, I just finished Soul Hackers 2, pretty good, and started Labyrinth of Galleria and I am having a blast. Tons of great RPGs in the PS4/PS5 family

Mr_cheese161d ago

Secret is the click buzzword. Can't have a title without bait these days.

secret, shadow, hidden

OtterX161d ago

Perfect for playing on the Portal, since rpgs can be such timesinks. For those people who can't stay glued to the TV, it's good to give some freedom around the house, out on the porch or whatever. I haven't picked up a Portal yet, bc of life priorities, but I definitely anticipate picking one up asap and playing more rpgs!

ziggyzinfirion161d ago

I'm currently playing Final Fantasy VII:Remake for the first time on PS5 and I am freaking blown away by this game so far. I don't know why I waited this long or due to my huge backlog but had to be honest, this game exceeded my expectations.

OtterX161d ago

Yea, story pacing aside, the combat system is pretty killer, especially if you slow it down to play it more like a tactical turned based jrpg!

I actually wish FF16 had gone this route, instead of the DMC route. The FF7:R system gave enough action for those who wanted to play that way, while still appeasing us old school turn based jrpg fans.

Glad you're enjoying!

crazyCoconuts161d ago

Some of the best in game HDR I've ever seen in that game. I liked it a lot too. My first final fantasy game believe it or not

A beginner's guide to Star Ocean

Star Ocean is one of those series that did, and still does, things that others don’t. Think of it as a JRPG for fans of series like Star Trek. The casts regularly involve people from more advanced civilizations getting involved with those who are still growing, even though there are various measures in place to allegedly stop that sort of interference. As a result, people get energy weapons, cyborgs, magic and people who can turn into cats. It is a lot to take in.

Let's see here. There was another classic JRPG series that started this SCI Fi. It was Phantasy Star by Sega. Before Star Ocean, there was Phantasy Star 1-4 on Sega consoles

Bhuahahaha1617d ago

a beginners guide to star ocean....after playing the 3rd game
you've been told that the universe (SO lore) is just a ------------------- and close the book

VsAssassin1617d ago

Yeah, that plot twist didn't work for me. I wish SO3 isn't canon, but it is. Anyway, SE can just sweep SO3 under the rug perhaps by soft rebooting the franchise.

Nerdmaster1617d ago

The first two were so great, among the top RPGs on 16 and 32-bit era. I wonder why it went downhill after that...

LiViNgLeGaCY1617d ago

I still regard the 2nd Story as one of the greatest JRPG's of all time.

ChronoJoe1617d ago

Play the PS1 game and then the PS2 game and then the rest probably aren't worth your time unless you're a superfan of the series. I think that's all you need to know.
