Tales of Vesperia Beta Status Confirmed (site nsfw)

When it was first released, the Xbox 360 version of Tales of Vesperia attracted comments such as "Aren't these spaces a bit strange? Shouldn't there be more characters?" and even "I feel the loli content seems a bit lacking," and it seems the above image confirms these suspicions fully.

Beta state only on flamebox 360. It only burns everything..

Gabe EatsWell5339d ago

Thank God I'm a PS3 owner. I get to enjoy the FULL game. :D :D :D

Cold 20005339d ago (Edited 5339d ago )

Its a pity 20 million people cant play ToV on PS3 since they dont speak japanese.

Oh well lucky Im a 360 owner. So I dont have to brag about the japanese version of ToV though I dont speak japanese and that will probably never see the light of day in the West.

Maybe if ur lucky enough it will come out Euro and State side by 2010 after FF13 lol.

Obama5339d ago

Don't cry when its announced for NA. There's a reason that the English VA were called back to do some work on TOV you know?

Unicron5339d ago

The US voice cast has been recalled, FYI.

TheBlackSmoke5339d ago

The jap version has full english fyi.

EDIT: unicron beat me to it lol

Hentai5339d ago (Edited 5339d ago )

sankakucomplex is teh bomb!

NaiNaiNai5339d ago

I paid 60$ for a Beta,

haha this gives me good reason to sue the company, cause thats illegal.
XD

TheBlackSmoke5339d ago

@ nai

You talking about TOV or ODST?

Cold 20005339d ago (Edited 5339d ago )

Thats what I said. Have fun with it in 2010 after FF 13...one year and a half after 360 owners.

Cant wait to move forward with new fresh JRPGS while u wait for ToV.

Oh ! Better start saving cash too because Star Ocean 4 might come out in the US in...2011 LMAO.

Unicron5339d ago

I find that argument silly.

I just saw Gran Torino last night. It's no less of a great move than it was when it released just because I saw it later.

TOV is coming out with MORE content. I can't see how that's a bad thing. I also find it amusing that you propose that gamers are sitting and waiting for JUST TOV with nothing else available to play in the meantime.

Also, what does FFXIII have to do with anything?

The fact is, MS's tactics have backfired in a sense, and the ones who are suffering are the FANS. And that sucks.

Infernostew5339d ago (Edited 5339d ago )

@cold 2000
Someone's a bitter little fanboy. You're really banking on ToV not being released in the US so that everyone can't enjoy the game, huh? For the record, SO4 is being released worldwide in Feb 2010, you strike out on that one. Anyway, It really is unfair that 360 owners won't be able to get this content without rebuying it on ps3. I attribute the 'beta' status more to disc size/time restraints rather than than making the characters exclusive for the ps3 from the beginning.

TheBlackSmoke5339d ago

@ cold 2000

Dunno if you checked but PS3 has Demon souls, white knight chronicles, Persona 5 (i can dream),final fantasy 13, TOV, and star ocean 4 between now and over the course of 2010.....meanwhile over on the 360 side.....crickets and tumbleweed.

Looks like you will be the one waiting for something to play, maybe square enix will throw another beta at you so make sure to report all the bugs you find so i have a better version kay?

Cold 20005339d ago (Edited 5339d ago )

Oh come on...nobody is suffering lol.

In case u havnt realised the ONLY ones making a big fuss about this is the 500 or so japs who signed the petition and Sony fanboys.

Step back a little and you'll see that nobody really cares. 360 gamers got to play this one year ago... I havent heard anyone complain except for, once again, Sony fanboys .You can have it now, more than a year after the 360 version, if u wanna, no big fuss.

@the others above: have fun with our leftovers.

Unicron5339d ago

No one eh? How about fans of the Tales series? You people on this site are so hellbent on focusing everything about MS, Sony, and Nintendo that you forgot people out there are fans of GAMES. I think Tales fans, and soon Ninja Gaiden fans have every right to be pissed.

"@the others above: have fun with our leftovers."

In turn, have fun beta testing incomplete products and using your money to fund better versions of 360 exclusives on the PS3. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is quite awesome now that they fixed the 360's shortcomings.

TheBlackSmoke5339d ago

Yea the 10 360 owners who bought the beta a year ago must feel really cool right about now. Ps3 tov has already surpassed the sales of the 360 version in a week, guess MS need to just accept their demographic only likes games with masterchief in it.

Omega Archetype5339d ago

Well after owning both of those games on 360 (Star Ocean and TOV), I'm not mad. Of course I have the option of picking up them both on PS3 as well (which I may do with Tales since I got rid of my 360 copy,) because I refuse to be a blind consumer.

Sure I won't lie, I prefer my PS3, but even still, I'm not going to deny the 360 and Wii either. Ultimately it's about the games and without owning all three systems (or 4 if you include the PC,) you get left out and I refuse to do that. I owned all three systems last gen and now own all three of the current-gen systems. That's the only way to go IMO.

TheReaper425339d ago

There there.. everything will be all better.

STK0265339d ago

look, I have the 360 version of ToV and I plan on getting the PS3 version of it aswell.

However, all these "beta status confirmed" articles kinda make me mad, not because I feel my game was incomplete or anything like that, considering that even without the improvements the PS3 is getting the 360 was great and felt complete to me.

They anger me because all of a sudden, something that has been done in the past numerous times (selling a game, adding stuff in a subsequent port) has suddenly become a way to attack a game, it's original console and the fans who bought it. When the Twin Snakes has been released, I don't remember people calling MGS a beta, when Kojima re-releases a game with additionnal content (substance, subsitence), I don't see people calling the original game a beta, was UT3 on PS3 a beta version of UT3 on X360? Or what about those who bought the Godfather on the previous generation consoles, did they pay for a beta of the Don's edition?

And what about Game of the Year editions, do they make the original game look like a beta aswell? I mean, games like GoW2, LBP and Fallout3 will all have a GOTY edition packed with content that wasn't in the original game, and people who bought the game at laucnh have technically payed for the development cost of all the add-ons found in the GOTY edition (even more for those who also bought the DLC).

TL:DR PS3 fanboys should stop taunting X360 fanboys with the "ToV on X360 beta status confirmed" and 360 fanboys should stop trying to deny the fact that the PS3 version will be better.

Rob0g0rilla5339d ago (Edited 5339d ago )

I only paid $30 for both of them(luckily for me it wasn't full price). That picture pretty much confirms the 360 version was incomplete and rushed. There really is no bashing this, it's the truth. It was hinted at that a character was missing in the 360 version when ToV first came out. But honestly, if it's a good game and it's loaded with this much content, I don't see the problem with buying it again. It's obvious you didn't enjoy this game as much and feel the need to pretend no else cares about this game anymore(which isn't true). Don't get mad at Sony, get mad at Microsoft for paying for exclusivity.

Immortal Kaim5339d ago

These 'Beta status' articles and the people agreeing with them are downright pretentious. So what if the game comes out on the PS3 with more content, it doesn't diminish the fact that TOV on 360 was a full game in its own right.

I think it's fantastic that Sony makes it a prerequisite that the game coming later must have extra content, to compensate for the time difference between releases, I just think it's arrogant to claim that TOV on 360 is somehow not complete.

cyberwaffles5339d ago

shut up Cold, you're stupid. there's been plenty of games that i ended up playing years after their release and they're still awesome. i finally played MGS1 about 2 years ago and the game came out in 98 and i still found the game amazing.

TOV is going to be a game that will feature more content than the 360 version, has full english voice over, and will come around eventually. you act like because the 360 version came out first it's already superior but look at games like ninja gaiden sigma. i guess that mantra of good things happen to those who wait is true.

Snoogins5339d ago

It seems quite a few people are upset that Tales of Vesperia has made the jump to the PS3, so much they consistently try and lessen the impact in their own pitiful, delusional fanboy minds. I cannot wait to buy this game when it hits North America (anyone who says differently is grasping at straws) as I am a fan of RPGs. Considering the new content, it will definitely be worth the wait.

god_o_war5339d ago

@ cold2000

i dont think its called left overs if you get more than the original dish...

mastiffchild5339d ago

Uni, you're so right. All of this just serves no set of gamers any favours.Cold can labour under the illusion that getting something first no matter how lacking in content, tech issue ridden or, in one case, broken a game is is a good thing but I suspect he even realises he's very wrong.

I'm angry right now over NGS2. Well actually over the fact that I bought the 360 game as I'm as impatient as the next man and was under the impression that the "Sigma trick" wouldn't work for Sony/Tecmo this time. I liked the game but it was spoiled by one of the worst, sticky cameras in the history of games. So when it finally got announced for PS3 with several extras I was interested and when it appeared they'd even fixed my two problems with the game(the camera and the gore-I don't dislike blood and guts but in NG2 it was so OTT it made scenes hard to see properly)I was sold. But now I'm not so sure. Why should I reward Tecmo with yet more of my money when , seeing as they CAN fix the damn camera they could patch it in for the game I've already paid them for?

Sadly and scandalously they won't do it-which I think is shocking and might mean I can't bring myself to pay for another NG at this point even if I would like to play the game without the broken camera and see the extras. TEcmo wins, MS wins, Sony wins-gamers lose whether they had to wait for the full game or got fleeced paying for a glorified QA test0and even more so when there's a tech issue like the camera here or one of several in SO4. I don't see any gamers winning here and the blame lies with the devs who're being very greedy, imo, MS just tried to break Japan but the devs just took the cheques to aid development and as soon as they could made the PS versions and don't go back and patch the existing 360 games which , due to being rushed out tend to have some problems.

Whatever, the Japanese timed exclusives have helped no gamers at all and it's mainly the devs who're happy while Sony get their extras and MS got their exclusivity what did we get? The choice of half a game/a semi broken game now for full price OR the full game/game with pointless add ons/year old port for full price at some point in the future? I'm sure in a normal woprld neither option seems that good and to pretend that EITER is brilliant is to miss the point and run the risk of being fanboyish as, for me, there's nothing good in this situation for either PS3 or 360 gamers and as an owner of both I'm liable to fall for one or the other every time this happens(played the buggy SO4 360 but am waiting years for the full western Tales and will possibly buy both NG2 and NGS2!).

Can't we stop trying to score points and admit that we're all getting a sh1tty end of the same stick while the devs/MS/Sony all got something out of this mess?

I really enjoyed this article, it was a good read. This quote gave me a chuckle, because it's true!:

"Pretty much every JRPG involves the player’s characters going from barely being able to lift a sword to killing God"

indysurfn1399d ago

LOL...exaggeration but I get your just making a point. No one can Kill God. Don't drink Satan's cool-aide he is just trying to recruit you (backwards recruit)

Tross1399d ago

He probably only has the grape kind anyways. All the folk up in heaven surely hog all the good flavours.

BrainSyphoned1399d ago

Final Fantasy 15 the ultimate delayed game with delayed story dlc shoveled in at the last second. Doesn’t ring the gratifying bell when I see that stupid car at all. Article+thumbnail is like describing a 5star meal while watching your cat clean its backside.

More specifically I would say JRPGs are progressive gratification. Basically like listening to prog music vs anything else which imo is the best. Even if a JRPG is all about the journey, generally speaking JRPGs keep getting better as opposed to other games which usually have their high points come in either too soon, or the best parts just aren't nearly as impactful.

indysurfn1399d ago

Also don't forget the direct comparison that the old Square Enix president made. He said Western players like TWITCH games and eastern players love Cerebral games. Now it was taken as a racist slam. But he meant it as one of the reasons outside of development time and cost return on investment(ROI). But he had a true point people here are TRAINED to like instant stuff. And people there are trained to like delayed over the top stuff. It is not a intelligence slam. I'm glad I LOVE the later gratification! Because it is way better!

iofhua21398d ago

I like JRPG's for the big anime tiddies.

indysurfn1398d ago

lol.....I stand corrected!

I hope they remaster or port a lot of the older games of the series to PS4/PS5

“Tales series is considered one of the top three Japanese RPG series next to RPG giants like Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy.”

How you gonna talk about the top three JRPG franchises and not mention Pokémon, the top selling series in the genre?

This is how the top JRPG series stack up

1. Pokémon - 340M
2. Final Fantasy - 144M
3. Dragon Quest - 78M
4. Monster Hunter - 52M
5. Kingdom Hearts - 30M
6. Souls - 25M
7. Tales of - 20M

A decade later, Tales of Vesperia might still be the ideal Tales game

Ten years ago, early in the lives of both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, Microsoft scored a coup when it secured the latest game from Namco's long-running Tales franchise - which had been almost exclusive to PlayStation since Tales of Destiny in the '90s.

Things got even more heated after Tales of Vesperia eventually did end up on PS3, in even better form, with new content and characters. But much to PS3 fans' consternation, Namco Bandai opted to keep the enhanced port Japan-exclusive.

Until last year, when Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition was announced for all existing platforms. The question remains: Was it worth the wait?

It is indeed. Havent felt this good for a tales game since....well vesperia on the 360. Namco needs to go back to these roots.

Phantasia will forever be my ideal tales game. But if they could do a solid remake in current engine I would be thrilled to relive that awesome game

PhoenixUp1935d ago

I don’t think there’s any definitive ideal Tales game since they all have their own individual merit from one another
