Not everyone has to adore the game, thus the 6.3 score. Notice that their are various scores, 9.5, 9.0, and this 6.3...What does this tell us? It tells us that reviews (or reviewers) are objective, people expecting high scores all round haven't quite grasped the concept of differing opinions.

Unfortunately this is going to reach massive heat, due to (some) childish Sony fanboys (Fanboys as in the immature, zealot type). Anyway, looking forward to playing it for myself.

So what if the game is great? Then it's great, and we get to play a great game. It's a pretty simple concept.

The problem is that these scores of 9's and the inevitable 10's don't seem to fit. Games that are 9's and 10's are the games that every gamer should play, but Halo isn't like that. There are A LOT of people out there who find Halo too simple and boring (me not being one). So, when people who have played the previous titles see a 9 or 10 they think, "Oh it just the same old crap".

I personally am glad to see that this game could be great, but Halo 3 got loaded with 10's and that game is nothing close to a 10, so I'm also skeptical about the validity of these scores.

And if you think MS doesn't make deals behind closed door, and under the table, you don't know business or how MS operates. You don't become a monopoly by showing all your cards. I'm looking at you Meus.

Metacritic only accounts for some sites. Eurogamer is the only one so far that will be in the metacritic score. This isn't a no name site but I don't think it is a very big site like Eurogamer. Still, I am waiting for IGN review (which hopefully will come soon), and then we should have some idea of what to expect from the main reviewers. Very mixed reviews so far...

Sadly, these lesser known sites' reviews will be left in the dust, even on sites like Metacritic. Meanwhile, the money grubbing ''Mr. Moneybags'' sites will have their reviews praised as truth.

If you go to the site you can see the list of sites they take reviews from.

I see people in here saying this should be included while the good ones are from no name sites. I also see people saying the bad reviews are from no name sites and shouldnt be included.

If you wanna see a list of the sites that metacritic takes just go there and look at the list. They wont include any review, good or bad, from a site that isnt on the list. I see a bunch of sites that I dont recognize on the list anyways so I dont know how they choose sites, but I can simply look and see the ones they do choose if I feel like it.

The only opinion that matters is yours, and I know noone has played it yet, so stop crying about reviews of games you already hate, or just play the games you like.

Metacritic has not posted those reviews becuase those sites do not count toward the meta and are not "high quality" sites just like Gamerankings.

Wont find those reviews on there either and one specific requirement for Gamerankings is that is must be a "Quality Site" to be Used in average game scores.

I don't trust this review OR the one that gave ODST a 9.5. Any fanboy can make a site and either bash a game or praise it to death without even playing it. I trust the big sites because I know that they're (mostly) credible.

I do the same with PS3 reviews. The big sites are the only ones that matter.

I'm NOT like the other ridiculous fanboys (both sides) on here who say a low scoring review from a no-name site for one of the "other" consoles is a "Great review!" but then when a game for their console of choice gets a low score from a no-name site they rant "No-name site! Biased!"

Id be more inclined to trust the small independent sites for my reviews. Of course, on the other hand, if you don't own Halo 3 then this is a steal. But if you own a 360 and you don't own Halo 3, you're probably not interested in ODST.

This looks like a professionally written review to me.

I have a feeling that there are going to be many people disappointed with ODST. I simply can't see how people can be scoring it highly when it's basically Halo 3 with few modifications (an "oh so innovative" health system and you can't jump as high) and there are so many other games coming out that have already bested Halo 3 at its own game. Other games are pushing boundaries, ODST is stuck in the past and tacks on a copycat "waves of enemies" mode that we've seen dozens of times.

I think the big issue is gonna be, is this game worth the 60 bucks, and it's low score or part of it's low score is due to it being 60 bucks.

For example WipeOut HD, got fantastic review score partially cause it felt like a FULL fledged game only for 14.99 or whatever it was initially, had the game been a full 60 bucks, maybe it'd be viewed way differently.

This game looks like it's going to be pimp! I'm not one for reviews, because everyone has a different game style preference. For instance. I like halo and MW better than KZ2's online and Uncharted 2's online is way more fun than KZ2's. I would say I also like Gears 2 multiplayer better than KZ2 but KZ2 rarely lags and it doesn't take forever to get into a match. I like how the same trolls come out to hate on ODST. It shows your dedication to a healthy cause... I just wish I knew what that cause is.

It is not the problem that halo/xbox fans would buy halo:odst blindly. That is a positive thing, cause that means they are loyal in their belief. PS3 owners would still buy UC2 if it got a 5/10. That's probably a fair enough crticism too i think as even the 9 levels of Halo3 felt desperately short - which is a little unfair thinking about it now

My defence of that is one that maybe not maybe even Halo players themselves would agree? one level of a Halo game really can be enough to provide endless fun time and time again.I regularly play Tsavo Highway and even though i can get through quite often in about 30 mins, it's always hugely fun and different

If ODST can provide ten 30 minute standard Halo A to B levels like what has already been suggested, then i'm basically in heaven

Not to count the city hub which is designed to be lived in for hours at a time it seems

The trouble is with a game like Halo and more so this particular one i would guess, is people will aproach it entirely differently to how someone else will ie in a way it was designed to be played

People often play games these days like they would when experiencing a film and that often ends up with one playthrough - that's never a good thing in a Halo game.And it's not just something you can apply to any game either like i'm sure some will say

Shortness of campaign is always going to be an issue for me just like it has been with every Halo game, but iv'e never tired of one yet and the city design here has this idea in mind

People that know what Halo is all about regards to repeated gameplay level sessions, know what to expect here i think.For everone else that wants that one thrill hollywood wow then i think Uncharted2 is much more for them

dammit, these scores piss me off. it's too much of a mixed bag game. i see 9's and then 6's all the time. i'm leaning towards it being a 6 because i thought halo 3 didn't deserve anything higher than a 8/9 and this is a DLC game that uses the same 2 year old engine from halo 3.

everyone should look forward to reach before this in my opinion. i think reach is going to revitalize the halo series to the glory it used to have back on the xbox.

Why aren't the mods doing anything about these people? They're the reason people consider N4G a cesspool of ignorance. They're horribly biased and just by clicking on the open zone, you can see their ignorant comments. They're rude, and don't contribute to anything but trying to get on peoples nerves. soo i say it right now, I'm not a huge Halo fan...i enjoyed halo 1 and halo 3 was ok. I would never halo 3 a 9.5/10 or 10/10..halo 3 was decent tho, but lots of the same generic things they did..yea it shines on its multiple player experience but even that gets tiresome when there's not enough new changes to it.

anyways where my point was going at is that if Halo 3 ODST had stayed an expansion pack, then im pretty sure this game would get a decent score...maybe not at a price of 60bucks to play almost the same form of halo 3 tho. The fact that halo 3 ODST doesnt bring anything really new...a few guns, the "character," and probably the story fills in some gaps of halo 3, but its mostly the exact format as halo 3... tsk tsk tsk bungie

hmm..i like halo 3...i got tired of playing it though...the story wasn't very long...and online was good while it lasted...i dont want another halo game that gives you nearly the same online experience i could get from halo 3..and then i think about it...ill be paying 60 bucks for a game that was called an "expansion" to halo 3--fyi that was from bungie themselves. for a highly anticipated halo game...8.5 is leaning toward disappointment to a lot of fans of the halo franchise..its not a bad score..its just not what lots of fans would want.

I've been using nowgamer as my main site for a while now. Their reviews are refreshingly honest and well-written and in my experience, have never been wrong.

If you can be bothered to actually find out the history of the site, you'd know that nowgamer is imagine publishing's online multiformat site. Imagine publish award-winning magazines such as gamesTM, PLAY, X360, 360, Total PC Gaming and on andon and alfl of the writers - some of the best in the industry - who wortk on those magazines, write for nowgamer. To call out a site a 'no-name' just because you haven't personally heard of it is ignoranht and foolish.

The only reason nowgamer isn't on metacritic is because some of their content is ported from Imagine's magazines, so metacritic doesn't have time to find out what's unique and what is from a mag - all of their mags are counted on metacritic, though.

As a regular on their forums, I also happen to know that the writer who wrote this review is up for some kind of online writing industry award this year.

None of my business, but the review I read... the one on ODST that this whole thread is about. I thought it waqs well-written, entertaining and came across as honest.

What seems odd to me is that other reviews appear to be making precisely the same points, but we're not seeing that in their scores.

It sounds lik an ugly game that makes no progress for the series. I think that's pretty clear no matter what score you tag on the end.

I don't really want to be drawn into this site's nonsence but Nowgamer is indeed a professional site dedicated to all consoles and pc related gaming. Its writers , including Dan Howdle contribute to the uk's best gaming magazine publications & vice versa. Its still in its infancy & as such many people may not yet be aware of its existance. It is the best place to go for honest reliable information. Check the site out for yourself , enjoy it, its nice & easy to navigate. They produce a pretty funny podcast which i also recommend you give a listen.
