Dear Microsoft, the Xbox 360 is losing ground. Do something.

Gamesthirst Articles writes: Vgchartz just released it's worldwide weekly chart for the week ending 12th September 2009, and the line could not have been drawn any clearer; Microsoft has to do something, and do it quick, or watch Sony's Slimmed down console eat into it's lead by about 5 million by March of next year, almost erasing the lead it has over the PS3 completely. Yes, they tried bundling a new 250GB Xbox 360 with MDW2, but if amazon's best seller list is any indication, that strategy is not working out as planned. And obviously, the price cut they issued is not yielding exciting results. So, something has to be down. Dear Microsoft, the Xbox 360 is losing ground. Please do something.

I understand this is a business and money has to be made, but it shouldn't be forgotten that this is also an ART driven industry. Just throwing money at it like Windows is proving to not be the solution. Why not create, acquire, and nurture their own gaming studios in place of buying termed/timed exclusives? Why not put their money to good use by planting the seeds that inspire creativity to advance the gaming industry......to advance the art?

Sony, and even Nintendo, in my opinion, are "evil" money grabbing companies as well......they aren't immune to those charges.
But with them, you get the feeling that they take games and to some extent, gamers, more seriously than Microsoft.

Dead in Japan.
Dead in Europe except for the UK.

Once again desperately trying to hype Halo.

The only things different about this gen compared to last for Microsoft are:

1. The appearance of fake sales number sites like vgchartz that Xbox fans embraced because it told them lies about Xbox 360 sales they desperately wanted to believe.

2. Millions of duplicate 360s getting sold due to the RRoD and other hardware defects

Other than that you have the Xbox 360 selling at virtually identical rate worldwide as the Xbox. The same mostly US and UK centric demographic who bought the Xbox last gen are buying the Xbox 360 this gen.

The rest of the gaming world that didn't care in the slightest about Microsoft's Xbox and Halo are not caring about the Xbox 360 anymore this gen.

After some 7 years in the console market and years of inane claims about how this was Microsoft's year finally that sales were going to explode outside the niche Xbox demographic, Microsoft finally faced their ultimate test last year: 200 dollar Xbox.

And Microsoft failed. Completely.

Microsoft finally was in a position of having a console at 200 dollars while Sony's PS3 was 200 dollars more expensive. 200 dollars, the price PS2 sales exploded at.

And Microsoft could only just keep pace in worldwide sales with Sony's PS3 at double the price.

The gaming world simply doesn't want the Xbox and what it has to offer.

Rare has been a huge disappointment. Lionhead talks big, but delivers less. And Turn 10 do racing games.

Microsoft has no one to blame but themselves for the lack of new and exclusive IP for their console. They should have been building up their first party development studios instead of trying to bribe third party developers.

this is what ps3 fans have been saying all along. fact is that the ps3 will eventually surpass the 360, next year and yes before another console comes out. see what happened is the 360 gimped themselves in this generation and the 10 yr plan is really starting to kill off the competition. not that 360 is going anywhere right away anyway. take a look inot this the 360 jumped ship on the 360, for good reason. but by doing so delevered a half built console and relied on xbox live. result they sold alot but have reached limitations by not planing for this gen better. That extra year would have really helped, but maybe not because the rrod isnt fixed yet. what has happened is that their isnt enough in the 360 to keep people playing it right now. even if halo odst is a great game the only people who will play it is true die hard halo fans. the rest of u shave moved on from halo. to newer more innovative things ( bigger and better in other words) and with splinter cell **** coming 2011 the only reason to have a xbox is for live. which will soon be not worth the 50 that they charge oh wait it isnt worth it.
it's sad that the 360 is not doing so well right now because it could really have been one of the greatest system but where looking at would and could possibly the biggest gaming console shift in history comming. If sony can get on par with live, well you know what they say once you go black you never go back.

I'm aware that it had a year head start, But I'm not talking about why it is, just that, it is ;)

Do you really think the PS3 will EVER overtake the 360 now? no matter how great PS3 sales are, and they are doing awesome right now thanks to the PS3 Slim,

the Xbox 360 will carry on selling, even if it got to the point where the PS3 was constantly out-selling the 360, there's a 7 Million gap.

But hell, the way I see it, if you want to call yourself a "real" gamer, you should own all the consoles, like me :)
