History Repeats Itself: Is Bobby Kotick the New Ray Kassar?

If Bobby Kotick's latest seems familiar to you, you're not alone. Former Atari CEO Ray Kassar had similar philosophies that led the company to the bottom of the industry.

Everyone, take the time out from the normal fanboyism and read this little piece here please.

It has some very enlightening points. Scary if it holds true though because it COULD (I didn't say would) lead to another video game market crash. And with the economy being the way it is now, the industry might not recover a second time

D4RkNIKON5345d ago

There will always be a market for gaming, unless it is the apocalypse of course.

The gaming GOD5345d ago (Edited 5345d ago )

I'm not saying there won't be a market. But I am saying it does indeed have the possibility of faltering a bit and the end result might not exactly be recoverable

ChickeyCantor5345d ago

Actually Video games provide more income than most entertainment mediums.

Even if it falls, it would just some recovery time before its back up again.
I cant imagine an industry being damaged for ever.

Guys like Kotick are the types of people that don't understand artists. Artist sometimes do tend to be primadonnas...they do sometimes act like Divas. They do sometimes tend to be weird and wired differently than say a doctor, lawyer, teacher, or bus driver. They come in late for work, they take long lunches, if you mess with their office or space set up they have fits, but it's the cost of doing business with them. If you want or like their innovative skills, they do tend to need cottling and hand holding.

If this guy acts as if this article suggests, then Activision won't be on top for too long...all the good artists they have will go elsewhere.

Darkfiber5345d ago

I hope he drags Activision down, I hate that company.

Kleptic5345d ago

I love articles like this...all the fanboy BS aside...its completely clear that NO ONE saw how this generation would play out...seriously...

Sony is still in third place as far as their 'next gen' console goes...that never happened before...

EA is actually awesome now, and Activision completely sucks...that never happened before...

Nintendo released some weird toy white box thing, that has taken the industry by storm...that sort of happened before, but not since the late 80's/early 90's...

we could go on and on...strange gen for sure...

This game...holy heck. Makes me feel old.

gamer7804762d ago

I loved that game. Unlocked every song

MadLad762d ago

Liked the aesthetic, tone, humor, and action combat.
Didn't care for the RTS elements.

Never cared to finish it.

porkChop762d ago

Yeah they marketed the game like it was a Heavy Metal GTA-ish adventure. And at the beginning of the game that's what it was. The game fell apart when the half-baked RTS stuff came in. I'd be interested in a reboot or sequel, but just go full action adventure and ditch the RTS. There really is something there with the Heavy Metal theme.

Ryushaa762d ago

I feel you. I just hacked the game to have infinite life/RTS resources

Inverno762d ago

PS360 gen was special, then again it was still the mid 2000s. Everything went to shite in the teens

mastershredder762d ago

I think that was the breaker for Doublefine's creative ambitions and their mixing of genres (which was getting kinda stale). It was a nice to look at but it was more of a tribute to the many things Tim loves, was influenced by and has great admiration for....but the forced RTS stuff was like a drinking buddy's "great idea" that never should have come to light. The game seemed a lot more vast, but it ended pretty quickly too. And Jack Black. As much as I don't care for him as an actor (annoying and requires constant attention), this was absolutely made with him in mind and it worked. I mean come on, Tenacious D? For as Metal as this game was trying to be, even comically, it did little more than meow.
