Wolfenstein sells 106K on PC, PS3, and 360 combined

When the NPD Group released its non-PC US game sales figures for August earlier today, one of the month's highest-profile titles was missing in action. Neither the Xbox 360 nor the PlayStation 3 version of Wolfenstein cracked the top 10, despite the classic id shooter reboot being promoted by Activision--which was shut out of the top 10 entirely.

How poorly did Wolfenstein fare? According to NPD numbers obtained by GameSpot, the 360 version sold just over 59,000 units, with the PS3 edition barely clearing 30,000. Add in the PC iteration's 17,000 units, and Wolfenstein sold only around 106,000 units in the five days from its August 25 launch to August 29, when NPD's monthly reporting period ended.

I think the one from the early 2000's was exceptionally well done, nearly flawless in design and execution. I bought the PC version of this one, but haven't played it through yet.

They really managed to screw over the Wolfenstein name. This really deserves a moment of silence.

honestly...if i hadnt known about this game previously, just from the games title alone, i would have thought of it to be some kind of kid game having to do with a mix bread of a werewolf and frankenstein

The footage from this game looked VERY average, and it was never on my radar... honestly I don't see why games like this even go for $60 bucks on release... shouldn't have been no more than $40 bucks.

Even though it looks like Wolfenstein flopped, Id Software's RAGE should definitely fare a lot better, can't wait for that one.

I'm not even sure about RAGE anymore, the only game from I.D I have eyes for is Doom 4, and even then it'd have to be something really special to cut it these days, I.D no longer has the graphics crown...and story telling and gameplay wise they aren't going too strong either, they can talk all they want about megatextures but if the game plays like doom 3.5 then it'll be "game over man"

Advertising/ Activision is not to blame for the sale's, the reviews have basically all said 7/10, which they all admitted was generous.

The only reason i didn't buy it is because it's an old graphics engine with a few tweaks, and weak gameplay

How can you judge id and infer about Rage's quality if id didn't even make this game? You say the only game you're interested is Doom 4, which I assume means you liked Doom 3, which was the last game id actually made. Given that, there's a big chance youll like Rage.

completed the rather average (that did occasionally have it's moments) on Uber difficulty in 6 hours. tried to play the mp and was expecting big things cus i was a massive fan of enemy territory, instead i was greated to the laggiest mess i've ever seen (ps3 version), but even if it was running smoothly the gameplay itself was pretty awful.

basically wolfenstein is a massive name for id and they should have done this themselves rather than giving it out to another developer

Wolfenstein got released the same day the Slim was announced. PS3 stole the spotlight. I'm not saying it was to blame, but it definitely got everyones attention, just look at the sales.

It's like whenever you hear "PS3" and "blame" in the same sentence, you guys jump to it.. its not always to make fun of the PS3.

I really enjoyed it for about the first couple of hours, but after that the been there, done that, mindless run n' gun aspects began to really show. It also has some fairly low production value and really feels like a budget, old school shooter most of the time.

That being said, the shooting feels great and there are some nifty weapons, but the veil powers really start to feel gimmicky after extended use. Not to mention that the game is a complete cakewalk.

I would give it a 6.5 and wish I had rented it instead of bought it. Operation Ressurection from last gen blows this one away in my opinion....despite it's low review scores.

First two hours do it no justice...

After finishing the game I realized the guns near the middle to end of the game are so god damn fun to upgrade too and the bosses got harder...

I almost shrugged the game off in the first hour...but like any game it takes u a bit of time to get into it...thats why demos are waste because they cant convey CONTEXT or storyline....

I like this itteration...it had decent graphics, good gunplay, if you are used to COD at all. then you would be home with the guns and feeling with this game..

The only thing that sucked was the Multiplayer. It felt like a differnet game altogether, they shoulda just kept the same dynamics from the Single Player...it would have been stellar.

Worth a buy if u want the single player campaign only. But try and find it on sale. I find 70 bucks a game now is outrageous...
