Scribblenauts ROM out in the wild

Yesterday, there was some unfortunate news that the Pokemon HeartGold/Soul Silver ROMs had been released online. Sadly, there are reports that Scribblenauts has been leaked as well.

that Nintendo and the game producers actually make any money, with a huge number of R4 and other related 'Copy' cards out in the world.

It's cheaper to buy a R4 card, with a 1gb card than buy an original game. Then you can download the game for free off the internet.

I'm also suprised that Nintendo let this happen. It's not just Torrent sites you can download these roms from, there are actual dedicated rom sites with FULL compilations of games ever available on the DS. Why haven't Nintendo got these site shut down?

Unless that's Nintendo's plan, and it's actually the Hardware they are making the most money on. Good for Nintendo then, but sucks for the game developers.

How would nintendo alone shut down those sites when bigger entertainement alliances still cant , with the occasional site being taken down once everywhile , only to get replaced ?

People who want the game will buy it. To me downloading a torrent is just like digital distribution, you don't get the package only the rom/iso of the game. The cover is charming enough that it might get some sales off of people walking down the aisle.

It's crazy how easy piracy is on the DS. You just download a small file, put it on your card, and it's ready to play.

Part of me feels sorry for them but part of me doesn't care because they said they're leaving the DS after Scribblenauts anyway so bleh to them. There's no incentive for DS owners to buy it, they won't be getting a sequel.

Anyway it already has 54K pre-orders so it will probably get them their money back.

i dont really get that one , I support a game , not the potential or lack of potential for a sequel .

Just like i wouldnt buy say Suikoden Tierkreis , a find i find quite mediocre , with the sole (and unlikely imo , if the game worked , it would be leading more of the same new crap ) prospect of someday finally getting a real suikoden .

So their current and past efforts on the DS don't mean sh*t all because they're off to broaden their horizons? It's the single most ambitious and innovative game on any platform this year, system and sequel be damned. Why wouldn't there be incentive for a DS owner to buy this game? You don't buy a game hoping for a sequel, you buy a game because the game YOU ARE BUYING is good.

I said sequel as just meaning more support but no I don't think there's any incentive to buy it. They're abandoning the DS now that people know about them. That's uncool, in the same way Square Enix's lack of support for the PS3 is uncool.(before anyone calls me a hypocrite)

But on the other hand yes, we should support good games and developers.

But I have to ask, if they don't care about DS gamers, why should we care about them?

They've made like 4 games on the DS, one of which (this one) has an unbelievably huge amount of stuff in it exclusively ON THE DS. How is it that they all of a sudden don't care about DS gamers now and there's no incentive to buy it? They made the game for the system and it's an exclusive.

I can see if they hyped it up and canceled it then brought it out for another system, THEN you might have a point. But with that attitude you're exhibiting, if everyone acted as you did then 5th Cell would have been better off making it on another system since apparently you won't support it anyway. The scope for this game and the fact that they were able to even pull it off is nothing short of awe inspiring regardless of the platform, and it's sad people don't see that.

Lord knows there are a lot of people who want the game and are willing to get a DS for it, or wish it weren't JUST on a DS. It's a swan song for their DS games, but who knows what they'll be able to do later on.

You see the game do you enjoy it ? want to buy it ? Then yes you buy it .

I dont see the point of deciding that over anything else but the merit of the game alone , we are not in bank investments or buying some future here , just one particular game .

"Hey great game pals! but you're leaving the DS and it's not cool , despite giving us at least one last great game , so no i wont buy it!! "

Well as I said as soon as people learnt who they were they're leaving the DS alone. I'll use an analogy, it's like someone in highschool hanging with the geeks and then abandoning them when they're popular.

There's also a lot of game people wish were on other systems than the DS because they hate the DS irrationally... that doesn't mean much.

I'm sorry that I feel an obligation to support the developers that keep supporting you after you've supported them. I was all for this game and wishing it was massively successful until they said they weren't going to make any DS games any more and it's something they only said after E3 and all the awards.

EDIT: @Baka: Yes I do want to support the game and I will be buying it legally but no I don't think it's cool. We've obviously fulfilled out use now and they're discarding us.

Speak for yourself . I bought one game for it's quality and that's exactly what i had . There is nothing wrong with supporting a dev that consistantly pleases you or got an actual franchise established on a set platform ... but it hardly seems the case here .

And your sense of entitlement an analogy dont really work imo . They never pretended they would forever be on Ds unless i'm mistaken . So what if they want , as an exemple try something new with new tech from HD consoles ? or the wii ?

And I have an analogy too , it would be imo as if you had a one night stand with no promises , yet somehow expected kids and a wedding .

Yes, I did know about them before Scribblenauts, I knew about them because of Drawn to Life and Lock's Quest. Did you know you know about them before E3?

They're free to try stuff on the HD consoles and Wii, I'm not bothered about that but they said they "MIGHT still do DS game" but "that's it for original stuff."

In other words even if they do keep supporting their fans on the DS(of which I don't consider myself one) they're not going to try...

EDIT: Also Baka we've discussed the whole hate for Square Enix thing before and you understand why people are mad(as do I), it's the same principal?

Also just answer this, would you prefer Scribblenauts to be on platforms other than the DS? Because it's not as powerful as the other systems?

No i didnt know them before the first infos on scribblenauts .

And i dont see it as the same thing at all . Square was very fidgety and kept lying over it's official position on each console .

I got 2 very precise issues with square :

- regardless of platform , they've mostly released FF rehashes wich are quite good while they often released mediocre new games .

- They keep saying they support the PS3 , and yet they got nothing to show for it , until FFXIII . hell if it was a problem of hellish develoippement , they could have easily restored some faith by releasing quite few ps1 ones classics on psn ... but zilch nada , they gave ff7 and vagrant (in jap) and that's it .

Had SE been honest , like Scribblenauts dev actually , i wouldnt mind them switching platform . People forget they never belonged to Sony to begin with ... they dropped Nintendo , then went to Sony .
And in the end does my anger toward them means squat ? no i'll most likely get FFXIII december 17th ...

I'm getting some hint that you're turning this into some sort of "you dont mind cause you dont love the ds" tone , unless i'm paranoid ... and i'm not liking it .

So let's make some things clear here :

- i've no intention or never had one of buying Scrriblenauts or playing it anytime soon . Why ? well everyone else i know is in love , so i'll have plenty occasion to try it and make up my mind . And because i have more pressing thing to buy on ds and psp , i'm even late as i neglected a bit both platform lately .

- I prefer home consoles , and always will , but i still very much enjoy portables ones . Hell this generation , if not for them , i woudlnt have find good jrpgs , given most japanese devs frilosity toward next gen development .

And to answer your question , no i cant that i want or dont want scribblenauts elsewhere . it's stupid anyway , the game is only designed with DS in mind ... i can't see it being as good elsewere , even with motion controls .

Again i do know them before scribblenauts ... however i've seen quite a few articles , interview and videos ... and it was obvious to me that they arent in love with the platform , or actually any platform , but loves to tinker with their own concept and ideas .

Who knows if they next idea would work on ds , psp or even montion less consoles ? We dont .

And once again , my whole argument against you , is that i find immensily silly that someone wouldnt buy a game he apparently loves because he wouldnt get a sequel or a next game on the same platform .

My issue with them is that they only said they weren't going to make any more DS games after E3 and after everyone knew about them. They never lied but it doesn't seem "honest" to me. Can you not see where I'm coming from? if when they announced Scribblenauts they said it would be their last DS game I wouldn't have had a problem. It's the fact that as soon as they got publicity they decided to drop support.

The reason I was asking about the fact that it's the DS is because I know you don't hate any of the systems, but I think you've made it clear that the DS is your least favourite in the past. You even said you prefer other systems there so that is obviously a reason why you don't see a problem with switching to other platforms.

Well they have already actually said that there will be no more original stuff for the DS so I'd wager that their next concept WON'T be on the DS.

I don't love the game, it looks good and I want to play it(and I've said I'll be buying it) but seriously if all support stops after that what's the point?

Pokemon HeartGold ROM leak is good news in my book because this shallow franchise is already milked to death and deserves no love.

Scribblenauts' leak on the other hand IS BAD news. REALLY bad news because one of the best and most original games in years could be hurt. Hopefully DS owners show they love true video games and help this gem to become a commercial success.

Eespecially when the bad news might not have happens if so "many good news" didnt to begin with .

It's useless to wish ill and harm to big franchise through piracy . They dont suffer . hell they can even put some spin and blame others reasons for lower than expected sales on piracy .
And since the big chesses pretend to suffer from it , they can raise prices and say "hey it's not my fault , piracy killed my game" . Activision is a perfect example of that

It will be actually small games suffering . Not that many folks pirating big franchise will bother buying smaller ips and suddenly do the good thing .

Get real. Theyve already made quality games in Lock's quest and drawn to life. The second drawn to life is due out end of this year as well.

What's the point ?

i'm afraid it's one of those things we'll go running in circle and agree to disagree with .

No offense but that's some serious case of fanboyism here ... one that isnt harfmul like open war on systems like done by most , but still ..

The game should be reward enough , in the case you care about it . Support ? is it a complete and finished game ? Yes , it's enjoyable on it's own or not , regardless of what are the studio's future projects and where ...

Hell those are different cases , but this is why i find delluded to buy games based on the promises of future ( and hoped better ) games .
It didnt do any good to many King of fighters fans as an example . As soon as the game became crap (ie after KOF '98 and till the surprisingly good kof XI) most of us forcefully moved on .. but some remained in the illusion and kept buying and funding snk for years , regardless of what they thought pf the 2000 games .
You kinda wonder what good it did them , King of fighters XII is indeed the graphics revamp and the game rebirth , they put their hopes on , except for a huge glaring factor : it's a complete retrat to 94 gameplay wise , with new mechanics that got nothing to do with the past 6 or more games of the series . Something they now take as a big spit on their undying support as SNK dropped without a second thought every gameplay addition of the 00's games , and almost all characters (except a few , and one they mostly dislike) .

But like i said it's different and i largely digressed ...

PS :

You couldnt be more wrong here about my opinion of the DS . I've been very clear that my least favorite platforms are the 360 and wii , in that order .

I simply dont have much 360 games that interest me , and so far half of those that did only dissapointed me .

The wii ? back then I proceeded as i did with every nintendo home console since they lost the number 1 spot , bought the console with a list of precise game to buy , and without much expectations . I was still surprised by the amount of 3rd party shovelware and a few shenanigans by nintendo itself ... but greatly enjoyed my list of games in it's whole , with a very few new titles added to it .

The DS ? i got no complains here , except for some japanese publishers tendencies to do cheap ports (Chrono trigger ) or to be so unprepared for next gen consoles and the wii , that they became afraid to continue their series , and sometimes do weak spin offs , with only the name in common to cash in (Suikoden tierkreis)
