Formed in 2007, Vancouver-based United Front Games officially broke cover in May 2009 with the announcement that it was working on a new action title for Activision. In July, at E3, the studio unveiled a second project, the PS3 exclusive ModNation Racers. An 80-strong development team including former EA, Radical and Rockstar employees - many of whom have experience in the racing genre having worked on the likes of the Need For Speed series - is currently at work on the kart racer.
Edge caught up with producer Dan Sochan to find out more about the game, which has been in development since October 2007 and is being billed by publisher Sony as the next title in the 'play, create, share' genre.
Mario Kart has always reigned supreme when it comes to the best kart racers out there to play, but there are still a few other racers that are must-plays.
Sony Interactive Entertainment will be shutting the servers down for two PS3 racing games in July.
Sad, hopefully they make a new Modnation racers game. wait, is it completely shutting down or can you still download tracks?
I had some good memories playing Modnation. :( Sad to see it go, but it was inevitable.
There were plenty of notably excellent PlayStation 3 exclusives that were one-and-done during its long history. Games like Mag, Starhawk, Heavy Rain and LittleBigPlanet Karting were solid titles that were not given a chance to expand on their potential with sequels. Ironically, the developer of LittleBigPlanet Karting, United Front Games, had another kart racing title prior to this. Its first game, ModNation Racers, successfully implemented an aspect that wasn’t done previously and hasn’t been done since.
I loved this game, and it's a crying shame that the studio closed eliminating the possibility of a PS4/PS4 Pro Modnation game :(
game was great. However it felt soules Mario Kart. The load times on the game for Psvita were beyond horrible
This is my most anticipated title of 2009-2010. You can have your modern warfares and god of wars. I want new and unique great games and this has that in bucketloads.
PD Created Tracks from the Gran Turismo series created by PD themselves.
Wipeout
@ Below... I'm sure of it..cause I'll be making my own... but the non creative people would still jump at the idea to own an official PD design. Heck i've never published an LBP level besides the one I did in the beta
That was a good interview. Very informative. I'm really excited for this game. Hopefully I get into the beta for this one.
that UFG are considering 4-player splitscreen. I really hope they do...
This with LBP, Motorstorm:PR, FIFA, RagdollKungFu & Warhawk would make an ultimate party gaming setup :D
Great interview, asked all the questions that I wanted to be asked.
This game is looking great at the moment. The E3 showing and GamesCom trailer both show off not only the great depth and ease in the creation mode, but also show off how different the courses can look. There will be some insane levels. I just hope the dud ones can find their way out of my search results though.
What UFG need to do most of all though if you ask me is get together with Media Molecule (As they have said they've already done to an extent) and ask them exactly how they do the how level selections because LBP didn't have the greatest start off with levels and finding the great ones.
A website with fan chosen courses as well would be a great idea just to find out what courses are the BEST of the best.
Hopefully some real substantial DLC too, not that I don't like the costumes that LBP gets but really the ratio of stuff worth buying and not is fairly low. The MGS pack was fantastic but we really haven't seen anything like that since until we get the Water soon.
