Resistance 2 is worse than Resistance Fall of Man in practically every way possible.

TOP 5 2009

Uncharted 2
Killzone 2
InFamous
Ratchet & Clank Crack in Time
Demon's Souls

mal_tez925378d ago (Edited 5378d ago )

1. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. The closest thing there is to a perfect game, despite is sole singleplayer component. Gamelplay, Story, Graphics, Animation, Variety, Characters, there's just nothing that it get wrong. I just hope the sequel is as good.

2. Killzone 2. Takes immersion and shooting gameplay to the next level with great feeling guns and fantastic multiplayer. (the game is the best if you turn off all the HUD)

3. MGS4. I am a fan of the series, and this game was a like a dream come true for me. Re-invented the gameplay for a next-gen experience, while keeping the same flavour of the series.

4. LittleBigPlanet. I really don't know what it is about this game, but I've had so much fun playing, creating and sharing. While a next-gen sidescroller seounds like a but of an oxymoron, this game is just plain and simple fun, with complex and logical tools, getting the best of both worlds.

5. Sorry but I can't separate Resistance 2 and Tools of Destruction, Insomniac are churning out too many amazing titles.

If anyone knows any other good games I'd love to hear about them.

Ones I didn't like so much are inFamous (but that's judging from the demo) and I also found Heavenly Sword to be a bit of a Button-Masher.

NewZealander5378d ago

im only new to the ps3 but i would put uncharted and MGS4 as the best ive played.

shingo5378d ago (Edited 5378d ago )

resistance 2 is such a big disappointment after the first.

resistance 1 >>>>>>> resistance 2.

callahan095378d ago

Disagree with you on that Sparced, I think it's BETTER than Resistance: Fall of Man in (nearly, but not entirely) every way. But we're each entitled to our own opinions. If you really consider it, the two games are way more different than two games in the same series usually are, so I can see how the fanbase could get polarized on the subject of which one is better. Some people couldn't stand the new health system and the loss of the wheel of weapons, as well as the loss of offline campaign co-op. I never played the offline campaign co-op in R:FOM, so I have no opinion on its absence in R2, but it would have been nice to see it return, I guess. As far as the wheel of weapons, I dunno, I actually like it better just having the two weapons at a time. I feel like I have to really think about what I want to drop and what I want to pick up and take with me. Having access to every weapon at the same time is kind of unrealistic (I know, it sounds odd to talk about realism in a game like this, but whatever) considering that there's no way Nathan could carry all that crap on him at once. Plus, it made the game a bit easy having such a crazy arsenal at all times. The only reason the game was challenging at all was because of the health system where you only regenerated health by quarters, if you lost a whole quarter, it wouldn't regenerate, but if you lost a part of a quarter, it would regenerate if you didn't get shot for a while. It was a challenging and unique health system, but I just overall prefer the R2 health system, it doesn't make the game artificially challenging. If I survive, I survive, simple as that. With R:FOM it came down too much to trying to manage when I pick up the health vials that lie around. I dunno. Both systems have their pluses and minuses, but for me, I just enjoyed it more in R2 with the fully-regenerating health system.

Beyond the base mechanics though, I think R2 is the way better game. It had a better story in my opinion, which was actually really deep and well-fleshed out if you listen to all of the radio broadcasts, find all the intel, and beat all of the co-op campaigns and read the mission updates you get during the co-op. And the graphics are leaps and bounds better. I think R2 is vastly underrated for its graphics, it and MGS4 were easily the two best graphics of all games that came out in 2008, in my opinion. The level designs were really cool, too, especially Chicago, with the platforming segments, and the bosses were all really huge and epic. The multiplayer is great (love Skirmish mode), and the class-based co-op is my favorite of all time. I think it's better and more interesting than Left 4 Dead, Gears of War 2's Horde, etc. and quite frankly I think it's vastly under-rated. Having 3 different classes and 8 players at a time that all have to work together in the right ways to suppress the enemy and succeed at goals that extend beyond just "shoot, kill, survive", and the system of leveling up that comes along with it, I think it's just a very deep, engaging, addictive, and dynamic co-op game in ways that the competition didn't live up to despite everyone in the world claiming Left 4 Dead and Horde are the best. I truly believe that R2 co-op is better, and significantly so, than either of those other games.

That's just my take. Personally, R2 is one of my favorite PS3 games.

Sorry for the wall of text. Feel free to go "tl;dr"

mal_tez925378d ago (Edited 5378d ago )

I must agree that resistance 2 has the best co-operative mode in gaming. I had a lot more fun with R2 co-op than I ever did in Left 4 Dead.

I remember a couple of times getting over 70 thousand XP points in one co-op match as a medic. Good times.

However, the competitive online was not that great. The weak guns made it feel like Halo. And overall the shooting wasn't that great, but this was made up for with the amazing weapon design.

MTEC85378d ago

IMO R2 story was much better than R1 but the multi player was 10 steps backwards from what R1 had accomplished. Here's hoping that R3 will be better than both in every way!

I_am_rushin5378d ago

It should be like this

5. Motorstom 1&2
4. Killzone2/Resistance2
3. inFamous
2. Uncharted:DF
1. LittleBigPlanet

GameGambits5378d ago

Why limit it to 5 when there is so much to pick from?

My favorite 5 in order are:
1) MGS4.
2) Killzone 2
3) inFAMOUS
4) Demon's Souls
5) Resistance 2

MGS4 wins it all in my book. If you've played the others and have an above high school diploma brain to understand the storyline, then you realize how MGS4 is leagues beyond anything that is slated to come out for a while yet. Uncharted 2 granted will probably steal that second place spot from Killzone 2 for me, but Kojima's storylines are still to this day way beyond any other developers.(For me anyway)

BattleAxe5378d ago (Edited 5378d ago )

Resistance 2 was way overrated. I liked the first Resistance better mainly for the single player campaign, but the online for both games was disappointing for me since I'm more of a tactical military shooter type of guy :)

Here is my top 5 exclusives that are already out:

1. Uncharted: Drakes Fortune

2. Metal Gear Solid 4

3. Killzone 2

4. Socom: Confrontation
(Patch 1.5 renewed my interest in this game as its now in the condition it should have been when it was released last october)

5. Pixel Junk Monsters

Microsoft once tried to nab LittleBigPlanet from Sony after a few drinks

It turns out that many moons ago, Microsoft once had its eye on the Sony published LittleBigPlanet series.

Microsoft had a good idea but fumbled it again.

Cacabunga16d ago (Edited 16d ago )

Project Spark idea was decent but they quickly gave up ..
LBP was wonderful

ApocalypseShadow17d ago

Microsoft in a nutshell. Always tried to poach Sony employees, games, 3rd party games and devices like the depth camera that was turned into Kinect but was running on PS2 before Xbox 360. Wouldn't be surprised they wanted LBP. Just like they worked behind the scenes pushing the MLB to bring Sony's baseball game to Xbox instead of making their own.
https://www.playstationlife...

They didn't spend years trying to develop their own baseball game. They wanted Sony's game.

They're scum.

Zachmo18216d ago

Microsoft didn't force MLB on Xbox. MLB gave Sony 2 options either go multiplat or risk losing the license.

Rynxie16d ago

And why do you think MLB said that? I believe Ms approached MLB.

ApocalypseShadow16d ago (Edited 16d ago )

Totally ridiculous comment.

The only exclusivity Sony had was to their own creation of The Show. Microsoft could have paid the MLB for the license just like Sony did and made their own baseball game.

Microsoft instead, groomed MLB for years in trying to poach Sony's game and bring it to Xbox. They're worth 3 TRILLION dollars. You think that's not enough money to make their own baseball game? Don't be delusional.

Microsoft spun it like they always do and told the media that they had to trust Sony with their hardware. After they put Sony in that position of not having a choice. Either go multiplatform or stop making one of their successful games. That's a no win scenario.

And what did Microsoft do? They didn't try to sell the game to the Xbox community. They put it on game pass to hurt Sony. Pushing the idea of why buy games that are $70 when you can play them in their cheap service for $10. It was a dirty tactic.

You fell for the Kool aid drink Microsoft served you instead of spitting it out. Hope it tasted good because you were fooled by Phil and the gang.

Hereandthere16d ago

Xbox executive Sara Bond has told Axios that Microsoft spent a number of years trying to get MLB The Show onto Xbox consoles. And when it finally succeeded in breaking off PlayStation’s long-held exclusivity, the company had to “trust” Sony with pre-release Xbox Series X/S consoles.

Bond revealed that MLB The Show “always came up” in conversations between Microsoft and the Major League Baseball organization. “We always said, ‘We love this game. It would be a huge opportunity to bring it to Xbox.'” she recalled. However, when Microsoft’s efforts materialized, it put the company in an awkward situation where it had to send in pre-release consoles to a rival company.

ApocalypseShadow15d ago

Lying to yourself is unbecoming.

Article link tells you all you need to know in Sarah Bond's own words.

Hereandthere16d ago

They were too cheap/inept/lazy to develop their own mlb game, so they port begged for years and bribed the mlb to make the show multiplatform. Like i said many times, xbox brought nothing to the table their 24 years, ZERO.

ApocalypseShadow15d ago

At least you and others get it. Note drank the Kool aid and asked for seconds thinking it was refreshing.

Most don't even know how it all played out but it's there in black and white for all to see. Microsoft brought it up for years until the MLB forced Sony's hand. It was a win win for Microsoft. Kill one reason to buy a PlayStation or kill the game by dropping it in a cheap service to kill Sony's sales numbers on PlayStation.

OtterX16d ago

"However, Healey said Media Molecule wouldn't have felt right doing that, adding it would have been "morally corrupt"."

Major kudos to Media Molecule for being an upright studio with principles.

Cockney15d ago

They chose well, Sony gave them the backing to pursue their dreams with no restrictions even tho their games especially dreams have very niche appeal. Media molecule and Sony deserve respect for this in an age of risk averse publishing.

RNTody16d ago (Edited 16d ago )

Great, more stories like this please. Show the last of the zombies holding the line what we've been saying for years: Microsoft is anti competition, anti industry and has no interest in making games at all.

But hey, at least there's an Xbox Games Showcase to look forward to, right?

Inverno16d ago

Well considering SONY just killed the series, LBP would've been dead by now either way. Though MM probably wouldn't exist by now either, so I'm glad they stayed with SONY, hopefully they don't get shut down any time soon or ever honestly.

Inverno16d ago

They shut down the servers, that's millions of user created levels gone. That and dead are pretty much the same, it's also been years since 3 and they cancelled HUB soooo.

16d ago
fsfsxii16d ago

They shutdown the servers because no one was playing, no one in the community cared about the user created levels so why keep them up? Wtf you guys would never succeed in running a business.

Inverno16d ago

Yea dood no one was playing so they shut off the servers. Cause people with enough common sense can't just Google why they were actually shut of, right?

Most Offensive Video Games That Would Never Cut It Today

Times are changing, and these games would have never been made in today's climate.

wealthofgeeks.com
thorstein70d ago (Edited 70d ago )

Every single time someone uses this phrase whether it's music, movies, books, comics, video games, etc it's always the same claim.

The ubiquitous "they" won't allow it to be made. And every decade these claims are made the claimant completely ignores all the "offensive" material that is published when the claim is made.

In ten years, you can write a new article about how you can't make games like Helldivers 2, Resident Evil VIII, Mortal Kombat I, Dragon's Dogma 2, Alan Wake 2 etc etc etc any more.

MrBaskerville69d ago

Yeah, people wouldn't be constantly outraged if there weren't games that people found enraging. The whole SBI discourse shit wouldn't be a thing if all games were inoffensive. A game like Starfield can make a guy froth at his mouth, so there will always be room for a list like this.

0hMyGandhi68d ago

Normally, I'd be inclined to agree with you, but there are massive caveats.
TV shows like Venture Bros, Ren and Stimpy, and Aqua Team wouldn't/couldn't be made today. Hell, Ren and Stimpy was a *children's* show, same thing with Rocko's Modern Life.

It's not for some arbitrary reason, either. It's branding and IP alignment. Companies are far more risk-averse than they were when I was kid in the 90's. Of course, you have companies coming out of the woodwork to hell spur on similar content, but remember: Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon and some incredibly provocative material.

And for movies? it's pretty obvious. American Pie/Wedding Crashers/Eurotrip among many other "raunch coms" have fallen out of style, and are absolutely outside what the modern day film industry is willing to stand by.
Ace Ventura 1 and 2, Dumb and Dumber, Freddy Got Fingered, Rat Race, Harold and Kumar, and Van Wilder follow suit.

Remember: I am not explicitly talking about films put onto streamers. I am talking wide-releases in actual theaters. Same thing goes for games: Carmageddon, Duke Nukem, Manhunt, Six Days In Fallujah (with their original concept), Hatred, and so on and so forth. Of course, I'd be inclined to mention most tactical shooters like Rainbow Six and Joint Ops as well, due to cultural sensitivity regarding *who* you are shooting and why.

And not all of it is bad (obviously). Tastes change, and perspectives change to fit the demographic.
I should add that I'm a lefty, living in L.A. Working in film.

thorstein68d ago

The Boys, Invincible, Jojo Rabbit, Deadpool, Gen V, Last of Us, Banshee... There are plenty of media being made today that people will claim "can't be made today".

Profchaos68d ago

Yeah but if you consider manhunt which was basically a snuff film could you seriously make that game with high than PS2 era graphics.

thorstein68d ago

The Outlast Trials just came out.

But the storyline of Manhunt was that you were executed. But then lived. And if you didn't do as you were told, you'd die. And the people you killed were not innocents.

It was all filmed by a psychopath.

As we speak GTA VI is being finished up for a release. You get to play a Bonnie and Clyde type of protagonist who run up against the law.

Bodycam looks so real.

People are making those games. Articles like this will always exist no matter how incorrect they are, no matter how many times they blame "them" for whatever it is "they" do to prevent "those" games from being made.

Number1TailzFan69d ago

The UK is the biggest junk country pandering to that nonsense as well, with laws against free speech and expression to match. It got so bad even Rowan Atkinson made a video on free speech about it.

Now the UK raises the age rating on harmless films like Mary Poppins, it's just a load of pansy weak ass nonsense.

MrDead69d ago (Edited 69d ago )

The right wing Tories have been in power in the UK for the 14 years you know the ones that are "anti-woke", blame them for your perceptions.

Killer2020UK69d ago (Edited 69d ago )

Are these snowflakes in the room with us now?

This is more faux outrage designed to get hits. The consequences are unfortunately creating hysteria amongst those willing to buy into it and blame "them" or "the left" or "liberals" meanwhile the left are kicking off about genocide, actual real world abhorrent acts. Nobody is campaigning to censor this shit.

Huey_My_D_Long68d ago

Not too mention the fact that some of these game are controversial for you know, underage porn and encouraging rape.

So either the guy just came in to comment snowflakes without reading anything, or he is calling people snowflakes for having a problem with said titles. Crazy how much brain rot someone can have.

banger8869d ago

Dead Island: "The early PC version of the zombie game swapped the playable character Purna’s Gender Wars skill with a prototype name, which shouldn’t be mentioned directly. The skill name made fun of both Purna as a character and feminists."

"Feminist Whore" lmao

gold_drake69d ago

ill add one more to the list.
drakengard 1.

its ridiculous tho, especially since they'd still be able to find their place in alot of places in the world. except america of course ha. and maybe Australia.

ppl are so sensitive these days. ha. but it is what it is.

Barlos69d ago (Edited 69d ago )

They're not offensive.

And we need another Fat Princess. Fantastic little game!

Some people just have no sense of humour if this sort of thing offends them. They need to lighten up and stop taking themselves so seriously.

Deeeeznuuuts69d ago

Would love a new fat princess game 🤟

CantThinkOfAUsername69d ago

Games literally about sexual assault, mass genocide, bombing civilians, and school shooting. None of which is satirical.

isarai69d ago

Actually it's about fat princesses

Huey_My_D_Long68d ago (Edited 68d ago )

Its crazy that people are fixated on Fat princess when clearly the list is going over controversies, and not all of them are equal. Like way worse examples but pretend the entire list is like that.

PlayStation 3 Games That Desperately Need a PS5 Remaster

The PlayStation 3 may not have been the strongest generation for Sony, but there were still some diamonds in the rough that deserve a revisit as PS5 remasters.

Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!

Rude-ro80d ago

I played killzone 3 in 3d and it really changed the game per being immersive.
In vr, that would be even more awesome.

darthv7280d ago

Funny you mention that... my son wanted to play some PS3 games in 3d on my PS tv and he was blown away by how good KZ3 was. It really was a great addition to the game. Im surprised there have not been more 3d games from that era being ported to the PSVR/VR2.

_SilverHawk_80d ago

resistance 1-3, killzone 1-3, uncharted 1-3, uncharted golden abyss, folklore, socom 4 , motorstorm, twisted metal, MAG, heavenly sword

Cacabunga79d ago

Killzone 2+3
Sly Thieves in Time
Crack in Time
God of War Ascension
Motorstorm
Modnation racer
Infamous 1+2

Profchaos79d ago (Edited 79d ago )

Killzone trilogy in VR would be amazing bonus points if they offer shadow fall.

There was a psvr1 Killzone project that supermassive was working on at one stage which wasn't up to scratch and Sony brand it back in house I was hoping we would see that on psvr2 eventually.

Personally I'd love to see some more love or acknowledgement of psvr2 from Sony in general it was a expensive headset and Sony barely acknowledge it's existence

seanpitt2379d ago

The amount of work needed to remaster these games wouldn't be beneficial on a financial and business sense.. MGS4 would probably be the best bet as it would need the least amount of work!

Iceball200080d ago

YEAAASSSSS! I miss this franchise and wanna play it so bad again.

Father__Merrin80d ago

The time is perfect for a resistance fall of man game campaign coop multiplayer

InUrFoxHole80d ago

The resistance series is str8 trash to me. Socom 3 I would welcome. Or killzone MP.

Marcus Fenix80d ago

A Resistance reboot will be awesome

Resistance was ok but Warhawk and Starhawk was better and kept me coming back for almost a decade of fun and petty revenge on the loud mouth unskilled players 🤣
Edit I loved capture the flag dropping the pot on the flag carrier was extremely satisfying as well as transforming your plane in bot form and stumping them to death 😱
