an expansion of a non pc game best of series lol .... still going to rent it .... or my roommate might flash it so but i wont pay full price for an expansion unless its WOW

sonarus5350d ago

Personally i never though the Halo series was all that great. The appeal of the game seems very much geared towards children perhaps thats why kids play it so much but it still carries a mature rating. The multiplayer is nice and basically there was nothing as solid on the Xbox or PS2 at the time but back then i wasn't really into shooters so i could care less. I already beat Halo 3 and played a bit of multiplayer and i have to say the game is rather average to me. Nothing spectacular or worth perfect scores but thats just my opinion. I felt the same way about Halo 1 when i played it back when it first came out.

That being said Halo ODST looks significantly better than Halo 3 and i am EXTREMELY tempted to buy. At the end of the day one of my friends will probably get it and i'll just play it on their 360

Sarcasm5350d ago

Just watched the gametrailers TV episodes.

ODST does look better than Halo 3.

I am especially interested in the firefight mode.

ReservoirDog3165350d ago

That's a bold statement. Halo 1 is still regarded as one of the best FPS games ever (and rightfully so). So saying that ODST is better than what's regarded as one of the best games ever?

Well, that's a bold statement.

No doubt it's gonna get some great reviews though.

St05350d ago

Yea, i'm actually looking forward to playing this one, I never really enjoyed the last games but this looks ok

HolyOrangeCows5350d ago

Begin the overhyping of the newest over-rated Halo!

Hope you like short campaigns and recycled multiplayer.

vhero5350d ago

Of course every new HALO game that comes out is gonna be rated the best HALO game ever. They said exactly the same thing about HALO 3. Typical fan crap TBH HALO 3 was average and this one looks worse. Its not got Master Chief so its like Tomb Raider without Lara Or Metal Gear without Snake it won't be better than the originals you can bet on that.

darthv725350d ago

the expansions seem to offer more to the story than the original. At least from a different point of view within the same story that is. I like Half life but the two official expansions Opposing force and blue shift are really well done. I especially liked the crossing paths with gordon freemen from the original.

Any, on to halo: odst. This game is set before the events of #3 so I think they should drop the # on the game and just call it halo: odst. It looks really promising. Like a crossing paths type of noir with each member doing something different in another part of the city. all leading the the final meeting of them again. I like it. I think it will do well on its own.

You may call it an expansion but that would be true if you actually needed the original in order to play (much like pc games). This is a stand alone play through of areas you never even were part of in halo 2 so it is a totally different game. Tactical and a thinking game unlike the other halo's where you are master chief...running and guning to the very end.

I wouldnt call this the best because I think there is still much more to the halo universe. The possibility of chief returning in a part 4 or maybe even the migration of this series into marathon. Chief becomes the marathon man so to speak.

Despite the comments from those who arent fans (why would it matter to them anyway) I can say as a fan I am really looking forward to this game.

I thought Halo 2 had the best story of the three games. Halo 2 told the story through the viewpoints of the humans and the aliens simultaniously, which made story much deeper and more interesting. The only people who didnt like Halo 2's story were people who wanted a cliched humans-rape-aliens-and-teabag- their-bodies storyline, which Bungie ditched in exchange for a more original approach. Halo 1 and Halo 3 both had good stories too though, and it helps to read the novels to help you appreciate the overall narrative that is being told in the three Halo games. the story in the Halo series is very rich and is quickly growing in a Star Wars-like universe of imagination and depth.

ODST looks like a good expansion, and since it takes place during Halo 2 and right before Halo 3, the story sounds like it will be good seeing is how you are seeing whats going on from different angles, and you'll probably see things you didnt even know where going on before when you played through Halo 2.

Graphics look slightly improved on an outdated game engine, twist in gameplay gives the game a fresh feeling, new Firefight mode will give the game many hours of gameplay in addition to the 4-5 hour new story. In my opinion, it looks like a fine addition to a series that i love.

StylizedPlayer5349d ago

Might not be the right time but the game has been leaked. If you like it buy it. This is for those that don't think that it's worth $60 for the expansion.

Masta_fro5349d ago

the fact that no matter how incredibly average this game turns out to be...its still gonna get 9's across the board...

And that may not be an issue to some of you brainwashed goons, but it is to me.

Why? Not because i dislike the halo series and am a huge sony fanboy, but because i loved halo CE, and since that, all reviews of halo 2 and 3 would only get me super hyped, only to find that the games where at most, well, average.

It puzzles me to look at a game like uncharted, or dead space, or even infamous, which ive played through many times, and not understand why halo 3 has a higher average than those games...

I HOPE, that gaming journalists understand that most of the gaming communities have caught on to this biased trend, and they're very carefull when reviewing halo odst...

And dont even get me started on GTA4...

Now do yourself a favor and if you own a ps3 go out NOW and buy, or rent, Uncharted Drakes fortune...
That way youll see what a TRUE next gen expierience feels like, and what a truly "epic" single player campaign means.

Well, Halo 3 didn't exactly set the bar too high.

billbox20105350d ago (Edited 5350d ago )

the fact that Halo is literally the biggest series out there. With still many people on Halo 3s multiplayer, even though it has been out since 2007. *checks flopzone 2* Not that many people on..

DelbertGrady5350d ago

Running mandatory PS3 fanboy script. They are programmed to attack Halo and Forza articles. Nothing they can do about it.

Cyrax_875350d ago

Funny how you act all mature and call out "PS3 fanboys" then you call Killzone 2 (which is in no way a flop at all) a flop. And Halo isn't the biggest series out there, Gran Turismo is, deal with it.

thegood335350d ago

Halo 3's campaign was one of the all time best. No one can pull of a four player co-op game like Bungie. Although Valve gave it a good shot with LFD :)

People hate Halo because they are afraid of it, and its success.

waitandsee5350d ago

Does not say much for PS3 exclusive FPS does it?

Haze - you much lauded Halo killer LOL.

KZ2 - screwed up controls, confirmed by devs. - Not even you droids bought it. Maybe you will now it is a bargin bin game.

Resistance - dull dull dull

saint_john_paul_ii5350d ago (Edited 5350d ago )

"People hate Halo because they are afraid of it, and its success."

or because its over-rated.

don't get me wrong, Halo 1 was good, but 2 and 3 were horrible.

Pizzagaki5350d ago

GT is not the biggest series, Mario is.
And GT is owned by Halo with sold copies per iteration.

Cyrax_875350d ago (Edited 5350d ago )

So which Halo outsold GT3 exactly?

waitandsee5350d ago

Too bad no franchise is selling so well on the PS3 LOL. Do you think SOny are happy to live on success of years gone buy.

Droid quote: "Well GT sold loads on PSone"

Cyrax_875350d ago

Seriously, what is it with you guys and sales? When GT5 releases and sells 10 million + like the other 4 GTs, are you gonna buy a PS3 with GT5 cause it sold well?

And just FYI only Halo and Gears "sell well" on the 360. Everything else (Mass Effect, Forza 2, Fable, L4D) sold less then MGS4 and GT5P. Do you think less of those games now?

PlayStation X5350d ago (Edited 5350d ago )

your a retard

http://vgchartz.com/worldto...

how aint they selling so well? not much worse than the xbox.
http://vgchartz.com/worldto...

halo 10million sales is nothing, so stop boasting.
Gran Turismo has outsold the xbox consoles so suck on that.

morganfell5350d ago

I disagree. I like HALO. I mean I like HALO alot. It is one of the only 2 reasons I held onto my ever dying 360. But as much as Bungie created and delivered a great SP campaign throught the series, they have made an abomination of the Co-op (for the most part) as well as the Multiplayer.

HALO is a rich universe that contains remarkable stories. Not just by game standards but by Sci-Fi reading standards in general. Eric Nyland is a genius story teller and Joseph Staten along with Buckell have done a fair job of taking up the mantle. Dietz, errrr, not so much.

Co-op has always been an after thought in HALO. The primary sin is the same problem that exists in MP - it breaks canon. HALO 1 - two Master Chiefs? Please. There are moments in the co-op for HALO 2 and 3 that stay within the story but definitely having co-op through the entire campaign as it is built just takes the story and tosses it out the window. Althought the mechanics in HALO are often good, burning down that story leaves you with - Last (Known) remaining supersoldier must save the galaxy against an alien race.

With Multiplayer Bungie was handed a mindblowing opportunity. And as far as blowing goes they did indeed blow it. Spartans killing Spartans? Really. HALO2 may have been more indicative of the cause of this huge mistake with the realization that Bungie was incapable of designing hitboxes on the Elites that were not so disadvantaged when compared to the Spartans. The fix could have been in the shielding or speed or health but Bungie availed thmeselves of none of these balance tools. Nothing changed with HALO3 though the idea of playable Brutes was on the table.

You know a team has unique skills to balance multiplayer when they do not rely on the one for one method of balance. One for one says both sides have the same helath, both sides have an equally powed assault rifle, both sides have an equally powered sniper rifle - basically the only thing differnt is the uniform and the spawn location. It doesn't mean those elements can't appear it just means that isn't the fulcrum that makes balance possible.

Simply put Bungie could have offered up some great moments ripped straight from the stories. A Team of Spartans trying to fight their way to a grav lift in order to place a warhead on a Covenant Command cruiser? Not in any HALO multiplayer. Covenant troops in New Mombasa trying to breach a UNSC Ops Center as they search for the Map Room that will lead them to the Ark. There are hundreds of stories to be told and fought in Multiplayer and instead we get simple minded kill the Red or Blue Team.

Bungie could amazed us with a one of a kind journey through an online Multiplayer war between Covenant and UNSC but they instead went for glorified Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, and Territories. Little else.

thegood335350d ago

@morganfell

I agree with you about the multiplayer. I enjoyed it for a bit, but it just wasn't for me. I expected more in that aspect. But as for the campaign, I stand firm in my opinion of just how underrated it actually is in most peoples eyes. They pulled off a four player co op that no one has been able to replicate up until this point. I will take an extra generic space marine in the story if it means that my friend can jump in a warthog with me and start shooting!

Rolling through the campaign with three of my buddies was one of the all time coolest gaming moments ever, IMO.

Honestly I'm not a big fan, but I know games and this 1 is far better in my opinion. This Halo has depth, and an ambience that brings the settings to another eel.

The Fn music is far more amazing in my opinion.

The vizor ala Metroid Prime style is pretty dope.

Grabbing weapons throughout had small Resident Evil feel, because you have to be sparce, and thank GOD you get to snag insinerary grenades more often.

Switching from character, while navigating flashbacks just gave the game more of a presence.

The stage setup didn't have so much bored backtracking, and at least the characters move faster.

I liked it, same Halo different structure.

Faztkiller5350d ago

Can't wait this is going to kick a$$

TheColbertinator5350d ago (Edited 5350d ago )

Halo 1 > Halo 2,Halo 3,Halo ODST

Halo 1 was a masterpiece that could only be dethroned by Half-Life 2 or Deus Ex in the FPS king title

DelbertGrady5350d ago (Edited 5350d ago )

How can you say that before you have played it? I hate that kind of conservative thinking. I sense sarcasm cause HL 2 and Deus Ex are completely different games. Halo 1 had the best story but that's it. Halo 3's multiplayer curbstomps Halo 1's. As does the co-op. I think ODST's co-op story and fire mode will be something to remember.

TheColbertinator5350d ago

Just my opinion Soda. Not much more than that

DelbertGrady5350d ago (Edited 5350d ago )

Oh yes it is! It's a big deal to me!!!

LOL! That little fat kid sure likes his bacon. That is the most polite "fit" I think I've ever seen a kid that age throw. Many of the people here could learn a lesson from that little bacon lover.

I've gotta look for that episode.
