Moore on motion controlled FIFA

EA Sports president Peter Moore has told VideoGamer.com that he believes sports will play a large role in the early support for both Microsoft's Natal and Sony's PS3 motion controller. However, much of this will be through fun mini-games as we have seen with the Wii.

Asked if the publisher's market-leading FIFA franchise could incorporate Natal or Sony's motion wand, Moore said:

"Well I'm not sure that simply having a, let's say Natal from Microsoft, having a Natal version of FIFA is arguably the right thing to do. Are there some cool mini-games you can do as a Natal or motion controller from Sony, where you actually put the controller down maybe, you get up off the couch, and then there's a penalty competition? And maybe, and this is right off the top of my head, maybe, there's a penalty, instead of using the controller, you have to take the penalty?"

It was a typo. Peter Moore actually likes anal....

Oh and the ps2 had "Natal" what, 10 years ago?

Way to blaze the trail Microsoft.

PS3PCFTW5358d ago

well noone except you.

everyone wants the ps3slim and its exclusive next gen content.

One more nail in your rrod coffin.

good riddance

Natal is completely different. technology has moved on since 10 years ago Natal is more advanced soon even hospitals would be using Natal for full skeleton scans which only natal does also voice recognition will be used by numerous companies even the FBI thanks to Microsoft all this is possible.

tripewire5358d ago

"Natal is completely different (really? the pre-recorded video demos looked alot like the ps2 games from a decade ago). technology has moved on since 10 years ago (I know. BluRay is a perfect example of that. I mean HOW THE F*** did MS stuff up dvd drives so bad when its a decade old technology?) Natal is more advanced soon even hospitals would be using Natal for full skeleton scans which only natal does (so Natal is an X-Ray emmiter?) also voice recognition (which worked pretty well back in the days of MacOs 8) will be used by numerous companies even the FBI thanks to Microsoft (what was their connection to voice recognition software again?) all this is possible."

Next....

Trevorthenerd5358d ago

natal is just some crap version of the eyetoy

tripewire5358d ago

Coming soon from EActivision (the merger is in the pipes) - Mutual Pleasure Time. The first game to use Natal. Developed so Peter Moore and Kottick could j*** each other off without actually being "Gay".

Trevorthenerd5358d ago (Edited 5358d ago )

Im beginning to hate the 360 now. First they charge you $50 for gold. Have adverts on live and now this natal BS? I might trade in my 360 for a ps3 slim if this bs does not stop.

Sitdown5358d ago

why you are beginning to hate the 360 now...1.)they have been charge for Live since forever, and you can find it for cheaper than $50. 2.)In my opinion advertisements are not as cumbersome as most want to make it out to be....I guess it depends what all you are doing on live. 3.)You dislike the "natal BS", but plan on switching over to a console that is having a similar device come out for it.

BISHOP-BRASIL5358d ago (Edited 5358d ago )

You'll be changing to a console that already had Natal... If you think about it, tracking your movements as controls is EyeToy/Eye, just like PS Wand will be Wiimote.

I'm not telling who's copying who, screaming rip-off, or some other crap. Actually that's about the bigger question mark that appears when making a Natal and PS Wand face-off. Both Sony and MS are doing things done before, but those things never worked right to start with. EyeToy and Wiimote just don't work on any kind of game, and if forced (as in most of Wii library since the control was made mandatory) it just end screwing up everything, the limitations of the control scheme causes limitation on the game itself that we are not used in many genres because the gamepad makes everything possible.

That's the point, Sony and Micro think they can make it better and give it mass application without compromising game quality or the public attained. If we consider "artificial" things as having a pad in your hand that does anything with a button press, and consider "organic" moving as you would in reality, we could say the basic difference in MS and Sony plans for motion control are that MS wants less artificial and more organic while Sony thinks that for now some articial need to remain no matter how far the organic tracker is responsive.

It's all consequence from the point were we stand now in the videogame story. We are nearer than ever from Virtual Reality. Not only prototypes but practical and marketed products that promise to delivery bi-focal vision and body movement track. But we are still far from the point where we'll plug a wire to the head and go matrix. So standing between the total organic VR and total artificial ways to play is naturally controversial and we have those problems to solve.

For me? I just hope both companies are wise enough to admit we aren't that ready to VR and use the good sense to attain the motion controls, whatever they come to be, just where they are fun and practical, so to not compromise our hobby, make it more spread than EyeToy/Eye, but not as forced as Wiimote.

For you, Trevorthenerd, if you that much more averse than me to motion control, you probably are just F'ed up and shall have to learn and share some of your games with those casuals' bad habits.

NBA Jam ? w00t 0_o Thankfully I don't buy any sports games. I hope they are talking about NBA Jam disc based version not the On fire downloadable one

DOMination-4159d ago

I can understand the need to shut down servers. But doing it for games that only came out last year is a bit ridiculous.

I normally try and defend EA on here because I don't think they are as bad as many people make them out to be but but this would annoy me if I owned any of these games.

"EA Sports Server Shutdowns"

... and that is why I don't buy EA sports games.

RAYMEISTER4159d ago (Edited 4159d ago )

They're probably following 2k's lead. 2k has already shut down nba 2k12 servers. Which means the average life expectancy u can get from playing nba 2k13 (if u were to buy it now) would be about 10 months. Don't expect to play online longer than that. That means there product is a NO buy for me. If they offered LAN option on the pc side u could always use Tunngle to play online, but they don't so there's no way to play online.

torchic4159d ago

wow they shut down 2K12 servers already???

at least EA gives people 2-3 years to play online, wow. nobody can complain about EA now

and to be fair to EA they shut servers down based on what percentage of people still play online. I remember them saying that they shut servers down which make up less than 1% of traffic across all EA servers, at least that's what they say.

brish4159d ago

"nobody can complain about EA now"
- torchic

Yes we can. 2k sports are also on my "no buy" list.

Dark5tar14159d ago

They better not mean On Fire Edition.

Dark5tar14159d ago

"The decision to retire older EA titles is never easy." That's also what they said when they shut down the servers for BF2: MC.

NicSage4159d ago

I think maybe with the release of pay for your own server on BF3 this is what EA might continue to use for all games giving an option for people who want to play it online.

I'm so sick of EA and all the BS, i'm sick of a lot of publishers anymore.

Videogame Virgin: Assassin’s Creed III, FIFA and bathrobes

Editor’s note: In this bi-weekly feature, Pixelitis staffer Matt Brown shares his “down the rabbit hole” look into gaming history. Having admittedly missed what many consider “classics,” join him as he dives in head first. We ask that you just be gentle with him.)

"Going down the list in Steve Bowden’s 100 Computer Games to Play Before You Die, I was supposed to write something about Defender this week but I decided not to. Just doesn’t feel right. Not for this week, not for right now at least.

I want to talk about something bigger, I guess. I want to talk about how, in times like these, gaming is valuable and vital. So I’m gonna do that instead."
