Batman Arkham Asylum tops the UK All Formats Chart for Eidos.

Batman Arkham Asylum is Eidos' biggest UK All Formats number one since the year 2000 when they released the Who Wants to be a Millionaire video game.

The sales were split in favour of the Xbox 360.

Anyway, attach ratios, while they do give some bragging rights I suppose, are just a percentage. And everyone knows that it's very easy to spin percentages in your favor. But at the end of the day, it matters how many total games have been sold.

In simple terms, suppose the 360 has sold 10 units, and for every unit they have sold 2 games (20 games). So we have a 20:10 ratio, or 2:1. Now suppose we have 5 PS3 units sold, and for every PS3, they have sold 3 games (15 games). So even though in this example the PS3 has a better attach rate (3:1 vs. 2:1), the 360 has sold more games.

If a console hasn't sold as much, it's easier to increase the attach ratio by selling a steady amount of software. Considering that for this long the 360 has held a lead in both attach ratio AND total amount of hardware and software sold, that's pretty damn good.

I've often said that in this generation's console race, the PS3 is the long distance runner - meaning that all along, I've expected the majority of the PS3's success to come in its later years. With it entering the console race at $599, it pretty much had no choice but to be the long distance runner.

The PS3 could very well surpass the 360. That's a big maybe though. MS will retaliate, and Natal will most likely continue to get a lot of press, especially at launch. However I just don't see Sony dominating like it did with the PS2. Even if Sony passes MS, I think MS will be very happy in the end with how much of the market the 360 managed to capture in only its second gen, considering how dominant Sony was when it entered the race.

I'm actually considering getting a PS3 slim eventually for its BluRay and about 4-5 exclusives I want to play. Then when I get the next Xbox, assuming it has BluRay, I'll sell the PS3 and games. I haven't decided for sure yet though.

Not only that but one of the two largest game retailers in the US, Walmart, ranks the PS3 version ahead of the 360 version in sales. Several other retailers in the US follow suit.

One just has to look at major US publishers like EA who are reporting higher revenue from the PS3 than the 360.

The actual installed bases of the PS3 and 360 worldwide are most likely already very close with some 5-8 million duplicate 360s having been bought due to the RRoD and other 360 hardware failures and problems.

A good example is when "EPIC" wanted to thank us 360 owners who helped sell 5 million+ copies of their game (I bought 2 copies myself) EPIC STUDIOS was going to give away the new dlc to us for free but microsoft didnt want them giving it out for free.

The difference with sony & microsoft is sony gives devs more freedom with their games so if the devs feel like giving free dlc to us gamers, sony has no problems with that where as microsoft on the other hand doesnt really give devs the freedom that sony does.

I can give you many reasons as to why I prefer the PS3 over the 360. So could many others here, but they probably choose to ignore you.

To answer your question as to why I prefer the PS3.

Most multi-platform titles in the first year of the PS3’s life favoured the 360, but the PS3 is difficult to programme for. Over time, programmers have become more familiar and efficient with their programming of the PS3. A lot of Sony fans said this at the start, give it time, they have been proven correct. Multi-platform games are better now when compared to those multi-platform PS3 first year releases. Batman Arkham Asylum being a prime example, especially as it uses the Unreal engine, more suited to the 360 than the PS3. The result is the same game graphically on both systems, whereas two years ago it would of been in favour of the 360. Some developers still find it hard (the Ghostbusters game for instance, but their the minority). Most games released now have no difference between them or the differences are so small as to make any argument pointless. First party PS3 titles with engines built for the PS3 have proven to be the best graphically amongst the consoles, best of show awards etc. The choice is now, buy the system for the exclusives you like, not which has the better multi-platform graphics comparison, because now, there’s not much difference.

Their are only two other factors to consider. Hardware build quality and online service. The PS3 has more hardware additions such as wifi, blu-ray, standard harddrive. It also has a free online service, and from an ex-360 owner here, who still games on a friends 360, a comparable online service (live is better, but not much better). The 360 is a good games console, that has a great games library, it’s just that it has unreliable hardware. This is not just compared to the other two consoles of this generation, but of all console generations that have proceeded it. I’m 37 years of age and have been gaming for a good 25 years of that, I speak from experience. For me I picked the PS3 for its reliable hardware, and knowing that if I have to limit myself to one console (that’s only because MS messed up with the reliability of the 360), I’ll be safe with the PS3.

Your comments in this post and your comment history would suggest you’ll come back with either fanboyism, spin, or you’ll use the maturity you possess and add a disagree or 2 to my comment, perhaps both, to make yourself feel better. Lets see what you’ll do . . .

Reading your comment was fair an unbiased and I to believe that gamers should choose the console with the games they like. Your argument about multiplats looking nearly identical also goes for exclusives. There's just not a big enough leap in visuals to declare PS3 or 360 much more powerful this early in there life span. Being a PS3 owner, perhaps it’s exclusives in “my opinion” have the slight edge graphically. But there are 360 games that come close, so as you’ve already said, theres not a big enough leap in graphics to declare a winner just yet. I’m sure there’s a developer with an unannounced title for the 360 that will equal the PS3 exclusives so far released. With each year that passes, games on either console will see graphical improvements as game engines become refined. Hopefully game play never takes a back seat though.

Many people will only buy 1 game a month.

Batman: AA and Halo 3: ODST are coming out within a month of eachother, so many 360 owners may be waiting for it instead if they can't afford both (and massive preorder numbers show tons of people have already put their money down for ODST).

In a month where one console has a triple A multiplatform games AND a triple A exclusive, sales of the multiplat will always be lower for the install base compared to another console that does not have a triple A exclusive in that particular month, just the multiplatform game.

Just like sales of Prototype were significantly better on 360 since that same month Infamous was released on PS3 and many PS3 owners could only afford one of them.

The Joker is a big draw though - looks like Sony is pursuing the same route Microsoft has been taking in the last year of getting exclusive DLC or extra content for multiplatform games. In the end it's still a win for the consumers though - with both trying to outdo eachother it's the customer that reaps the rewards of competition!

(btw, got to say I own all 3 consoles this gen and love them all, but before Batman: AA's Joker announcement weren't lots of PS3 fanboys saying exclusive DLC is crap and they didn't want it anyway? Haha, N4G is always an amusing place to be for either side)

This is good news for developers and really helps build excitement for 360 going into the holidays season soon. I don't see this type of news as a stab towards Sony but more of a reminder that competition is good. The one good thing I'm noticing (or hoping) is how the Wii fad may possibly be fading and giving the under dogs a chance to gain more market share.

the joker and bat cave home space are free plus the game looks the same and plays the same on both systems so which do think would be more appealing the $60 one or the $60 one with extra content you 360 fanboys don't seem to remember you paid for your extra content in gta4 so its not that big of a reason to buy that version which was proved when the games sold almost 50/50 the 360 does not have much free dlc and exclusive dlc on 360 is never free thats why on the 360 its not seen as a big deal because your paying $20 for each new episode and more features for less is seen as valuable to everyone just look at all the stores and sites that ran out of ps3 slims yes people have there own opinions on what they like more but there is no arguing that free extra content is better then paid for extra content also getting a ps3 slim for $300 with all the same features as the other ps3 models is more valuable you may not be used to good deals since MS rarely gives any(price cut=less features)
