I loved the Sonic Adventure series on the Dreamcast, not sure how I feel about all these Dreamcast re-releases though.

raiden_935373d ago

I'm not a fan of Sonic Adventure but I heard the DX version is better. Sonic Adventure 2 was the last decent Sonic game for me.

Gue15373d ago (Edited 5373d ago )

The you heard wrong @raiden_93, because Sonic Adventure plays best on the Dreamcast. I have both versions and I know what I'm talking about but if you want a professional confirmation then read the IGN review.

raiden_935373d ago

Thanks for letting me know. I'll have to check some reviews out.

Elven65373d ago

The Dreamcast version is the best, the DX release had a few tech issues and just didn't feel the same as it did on the Dreamcast. The VMU connectivity was awesome!

raiden_935373d ago

Long live the VMU! That peripheral was so awesome.

OpenGL5373d ago

SEGA should remake Shenmue instead, or actually do Shenmue 3 for PS3/360.

sonic9895373d ago

now i hope its on psssssssssssssss3 now sega ps3 plus SA equals explosion for me
now sega now
woow i cant sleep now

vhero5372d ago (Edited 5372d ago )

Would be cool to raise chois on your PSP :) . VMU connectivity could be easily ported to a updated PSP version like with the GC/GBA

Zac Simpson5373d ago

It was good then, so with some luck it will be re-made properly and translate well. Here's hoping.

raiden_935373d ago

Wouldn't complain if the made a HD version of SA. Would prefer HD versions of the originals though.

Nitrowolf25373d ago (Edited 5373d ago )

i will buy this, i loved this on dreamcast, best sonic game i have ever played

Masamori Sumimura5373d ago

sonic Adventure 1 & 2 where the best 3d sonic game made.

They should go back to that formula

Elven65373d ago

Sonic Unleashed ALMOST got it right but Sonic Team jut had to add the stupid Werehog missions. Without it the game could have gotten easy 8-9's/10 and given Sonic fans worldwide hope that Sonic could once again return to his former glory.

Nitrowolf25373d ago (Edited 5373d ago )

dude sonic unleash was great, but only if they didn't have the werehog like you said.

iamtehpwn5373d ago

Werehog, was an easy 9/10 game.
Werehog KILLED that game.

I would've bought, it I don't care it was only 2-5 hours long of just sonic levels, that's how long the original was.

Elven65373d ago

The day time missions were created by Dimps (a Sega owned studio), the night time missions were made by Sonic Team. I won't go as far as saying the franchise should be taken away from Sonic Team, but perhaps Sega should have a talk with Sonic Team and ask them not to take so many risks especially at a time where the relevance of Sonic is starting to disappear.

PirateThom5373d ago

Sonic Unleashed is the closest they got, but their reasoning behind the Werehog sections was kind of lame.

Bnet3435373d ago

I bought Sonic Unleashed for $20. That's worth the price. Would not pay $60 though. Werehog missions are bad.

Nitrowolf25373d ago

werehog was the worst idea for the game. He has very slow controls and is about power. Isn't that what Knuckles was for?
werehog wasn't entirly a bad idea they just didn't make him fit into the game right.

Elven65373d ago (Edited 5373d ago )

I bought it for $30 and happily played it until I got to the second werehog mission, it got so damn frustrating and boring I put the game away. I wanted to desperately get to the day time missions but I could put up with the night time crap!

If you think Unleashed wasn't close, I urge you to play Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) and Sonic Unleashed back to back, with Sonic the Hedgehog being first of course.

Piratethom: I agree, I think 99.9% of gamers would rather have a good/great 3-4 hour Sonic game than a crappy 10-15 hour Sonic game.

iamtehpwn5373d ago

So someone could mod-out the werehog stages.

Redempteur5373d ago (Edited 5373d ago )

LOl about unleashed i just WANT TO KILL the ones who made "Eggmanland"
This level is so broken ...i just don't understand .

I don't like the werehog part too but it was just ok ... nothing special in fact the game had so manny little problems that killed it ..

-the worst usage of havoc ever ..( it served nothing in the game)
-the worst final level ( eggman land ) ever done in a 3d sonic game
-i don't see why they went further than the model they done in sonic adventure ... in unleashed some stories you're forced to read in order to gain something ARE JUST BORING and CLICHE .
- QTE boos fights ?? ( dark gaea phoenix was mostly a laugh )
- you have 3 minutes of super sonic in a level that is slow as hell ..why ????

Give me the ones you have made the levels in sonic rush adventure ...these guys understood what is needed in a sonic game .

also sonic adventure was really the only sonic game with a decent story AND good idea of level design ( emerald coast , windy valley , mistic ruins ). Also i like "open your heart" better than "live and learn " . even playing with amy was fun for me ... why was this idea rejected ?

TheColbertinator5373d ago

It would be cool to have a remake of Sonic Adventure but I think a Sonic 5 in 2D with trophies/achievements would satisfy my Sonic fanboyism once and for all

Elven65373d ago

Re-release Sonic Unleashed but with the Werehog missions completly removed, that would be fine! :p

30 Years On, Sonic The Hedgehog Should Abandon 3D Gameplay

Sonic the Hedgehog is turning 30 years old, and at this late stage in the character's life, it might be time to give up on that precious 3rd dimension.

All they need to do is keep making sonic adventure games

Duke191058d ago

I got way more fun out of Sonic Adventure 1 + 2 than I ever got from a side-scroller

phoenixwing1058d ago

I agree. Both games were fun on the dreamcast

Fntastic1058d ago

Yeah i liked SA, SA2 was really good. Heroes was kinda meh..

They need to go back to the SA2 formula and enhance that playstyle. Sonic has had plenty of great 2D games but i think SA2 proved they can make a really good 3D game, you would have thought by now they would've nailed it.

-Hermit-1058d ago (Edited 1058d ago )

Or maybe people should let Sonic evolve past 2D sprites. Stop holding the series back because you're nostalgic for the 90s.

-Foxtrot1058d ago

People want Sonic to evolve, it's just they aren't doing a good job at evolving it

Sonic Adventure was good
Sonic Adventure 2 was great
Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 was bad
Sonic and the Secret Rings was nothing special
Sonic Unleash...again not great
Sonic and the Black Knight, bland and gimmick like (I mean a sword, really)
Sonic Colours was better but not by much
Sonic Generations was pretty decent
Sonic Lost World, nothing eye catching
Sonic Forces, pretty terrible

So out of all them, only a couple were decent

Sonic Adventure just likes to be ignored by SEGA, no remakes, remasters or sequels while Sonic Generation got a sequel with Sonic Forces and they basically took everything we loved about Generations and tossed it out the window.

They are all over the place.

Teflon021058d ago

Naw Sonic Unleashed had some amazing day time stages, Sonic Generations modern sonic was fantastic. Forces problem was lazy stages that took 2 seconds to beat and barely any skill past holding square. As long as they do it right modern sonic is fantastic.
2D sonic is great and mania is too. But sonic 4 ep1 was mehh, EP 2 was good though. But I'd play day time unleashed over it every time

darthv721058d ago

I like both 2D and 3D sonic games. The original series, Generations, Mania (for 2D) and then of course Adventures, colors and Lost World (for 3D).

-Hermit-1058d ago

People overexaggerate when it comes to Sonic's 3D games. There is nothing particularly wrong with most 3D Sonic games, it's just the mere fact that they are 3D that people can't accept. Then you have sites like IGN that never liked Sonic. A lot of this goes back to their childhood of Sonic vs Mario and Sega vs Nintendo, they can't let it go, even as adults.

I was also a big fan of Lost World too. Not so much the story, but I thought the gameplay was excellent. I remember IGN and Gamespot's video reviews getting massively downvoted at the time. They were just making shit up and were just bad at the game.

This is the main problem. People don't want to like 3D Sonic, so they don't even bother trying. Personally, I find the 3D games to mostly be between good and excellent, with the odd bad or mediocre game here and there. Sonic Unleashed's day time stages are still some of most well made stages I have ever seen in a platform game.

isarai1058d ago

Or just literally steal what fans have been making, seriously there's like 4 fan made sonic games out there that play better than anything team sonic has made in years

i mean, it wasn't that great lol and has aged terribly.

Katsa92031d ago

Did you even read the article? lol

SegaGamer2031d ago

I loved everything about this game......well, all but one thing, and it's not hard to guess what I am talking about XD

I used to really struggle to get all A's on Sonic's levels. I just didn't know how to beat those times, until I learned that spin dash spamming was the way to go.

Opinion: It's time for Sonic Adventure 3 and the return of Chao

"A few years ago, leading up to Sega’s latest mainline Sonic The Hedgehog title, the company was confident it wasn’t going to disappoint fans with the game that would later be announced as Sonic Forces. The company even went as far to apologize for the lack of quality control with its recent Sonic titles. Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric sits at a 32/100 on Metacritic, and Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal is currently at a 47. Needless to say, they disappointed fans across the globe. Unfortunately, Sonic Forces didn’t raise the bar much higher" -- Nintendo Enthusiast

I'm shocked that Sega haven't cashed in on Chao's. There is so much they could do with them with. Sonic Adventure 1 and especially 2 had so much replayability because of Chao World. If Sega made a modern Chao World it could be brilliant. It's crazy that they ditched it just as it was getting good.

As for Sonic Adventure 3.....well, it's the Sonic game I want more than any other. The thing I worry about most is the direction the stories have taken in recent Sonic games. They are less gritty and more child friendly, I don't think that style suits Sonic and especially the Sonic Adventure series.

FallenAngel19842099d ago

Sonic ‘06 basically is Sonic Adventure 3 in all but name

StormLegend2099d ago

TBH you’re right it did continue the duo with shadow and sonic and it even brought in Silver as the third. I wished they would have taken more time with it and made better stages.

SegaGamer2099d ago

It felt more like a Sonic Adventure reboot than a direct sequel though.

StormLegend2099d ago

At this point Sega needs to wake up and realize what made the adventure titles do great. They need to go back instead of going forward. I haven’t played a good Sonic game since generations and that was only good because it was remade stages from past games.

Blu3_Berry2098d ago

I don't really have faith in 3D Sonic games anymore. It blew my mind that Sonic Forces, which was suppose to be a return to greatness similar to Sonic Generations failed to meet my expectations that was pretty standard. After that, I just lost faith in the 3D sonic games. They haven't been good in forever and I don't like that is likely to happen again. All the 3D Sonic games that released after Generations were mediocre for the most part.
