PS3is4D5355d ago

I'm not surprised. Crysis has always been the graphics king.

umair_s515355d ago (Edited 5355d ago )

Yes Crysis should be number 1. But halo lol. It looks good in that video but I think Bioshock and Uncharted are far better than Halo.

Edit: funny thing Bioshock and Uncharted vids are not even in HD.
Check out the HD vid for Bioshock and judge your self!

Cwalat5355d ago

My list:

1. Crysis
2. Uncharted
3. Gears of war 2
4. Bioshock
5. Halo 3

How GTAIV even earned a spot on their list is beyond me, it has the ugliest water effects (except for the rain).

Time Lord5355d ago

But IMO Uncharted has the best water and best water effect.

Pandamobile5355d ago

Play Crysis and that will quickly change.

Insomnia_845355d ago

wtf is GTA4 doing in that list??

siyrobbo5355d ago

one thing i liked about uncharted was how drake interacted with the water, it actually soaks him, that was a nice touch you dont see too often

raztad5355d ago (Edited 5355d ago )

@Panda

Your comment is valid but then

Have you played UC1?

EDIT: I hit the article. Obviously written by a PC fanboy.

Crysis video 8 mins long, GTA4- PC mod (WTF?) 4 mins long. Console videos some few seconds. Come on. Why not to title the article: Look at Crysis and moded GTA4 water effecs?

STONEY45355d ago (Edited 5355d ago )

Cryostasis also had some nice water and physics effects.

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

But that's about the only good thing about the graphics in the game.

TheIneffableBob5355d ago

I would've replaced GTA IV with Resistance 2.

Pandamobile5355d ago (Edited 5355d ago )

Yes, I have play Uncharted.

Graphics were fine, but not on Crysis' level.

What the hell difference does it make if the videos were longer? Lots of people make videos just to show off Crysis and custom Crysis maps running in high settings.

And all that GTA IV mod was a flooded city. It's the same water on the 360 and PS3.

ThanatosDMC5355d ago (Edited 5355d ago )

Gears of War 2?! You're kidding PS2's Champions of Norrath is doing the same thing!

But yeah, Crysis owns all. Also, wtf is GTA4 doing on the list?

STONEY45355d ago (Edited 5355d ago )

@raztad

Why do you think it was written by a PC fanboy? Crysis deserved first place, and the writer doesn't have control of the length of the videos. And Uncharted doesn't come close to Crysis water (and yes, I used to have Uncharted). But imo GTA4 shouldn't have been there, I didn't like the water in it.

raztad5355d ago (Edited 5355d ago )

Hey no. I didnt mean Crysis dont deserve the top spot. What I said is clearly too much effort was put in showcasing (f*ng 8 min long video) Crysis, and almost not love for the others.

BTW, Uc1 did pretty well to be a first gen PS3 title. The water is plain beautiful, and the interaction with the main character was nicely done.

OpenGL5355d ago (Edited 5355d ago )

Crysis does not deserve #1 as they just place alpha textures on top of their ocean to "simulate" water interaction. Gears of War 2 should have been included as it has probably the best water ripples I've seen in a game so far. That said, Crysis still belongs in the top 5 due to how good the ocean looks when you aren't trying to interact with it.

FamilyGuy5355d ago

"This Gen" is short for "This generation of gaming consoles" so pc games and mods should not be included in this list.

I disagree, the topic needs re-titling. Top 5 water effects in gaming.

mal_tez925355d ago (Edited 5355d ago )

#1 & #2 : Drake's Fortune and Crysis
They have great water. Crysis' water looks better, But the way the water interacts in Uncharted is much better (e.g. the waves in the jet-ski levels and soaked clothes) So they tie for first

#3: Bioshock

#4: Resistance 2 (moves and looks real but has some jaggies and is always brown)

#5: MGS 4

mikeslemonade5355d ago

Haha halo 3 and GTA4 don't belong on the list. Two of the worst looking games this generation.

morganfell5355d ago (Edited 5355d ago )

I played Crysis and it is good but Uncharted is better. Water effects are more than just reflections and color tone. In Uncharted, when Drake gets wet he drips and his clothes actually dry out over time.

Besides, ignoring the water in Call of Juarez Bound in Blood is just wrong.

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

@raztad, if you don't give Crysis the top 5 spots he is going to burn up another bubble expounding upon the shortcomings in your powers of observation. Never mind that you might have fallen asleep trying to get through Crysis ho hum generic paint by numbers predictable story.

DaTruth5355d ago

Infamous. It was sad that such an impressive game, would have such terrible water. When you hit a guy into the water, he dies on top as if it were the ground; No floating, just dead on top. Electricity effects KING!!!

But when I play GTA4 after playing Infamous, it hurts my eyes!

villevalorox5355d ago

OKay, in no order.. Umm

Crysis hell yeah.
uncharted 2.
killzone 2 Beach Head map wow!
Bioshock
Battlefield 1943 the water looks so nice :)
Resistance 2
Gears of war has nice water.

so many :) .. can not wait for uncharted 2 :P

Goomba125355d ago (Edited 5355d ago )

@ Morganfell
You must have played Crysis on low settings or something to actually believe what you just said. Btw who cares about the story. did you actually play Crysis for the story.

MEsoJD5355d ago (Edited 5355d ago )

is doing HALO on that list : o

JonnyBadfinger5355d ago

HOW THE F*** did GTA4 get on that list???

its the most life less looking sea of vomit ive ever seen!

in proper order:

1) Crysis
2) Uncharted (i will admit, the soaking clothes is a nice touch)
3) Halo 3 (Best water physics, objects and bodys floating down stream)
4) Bioshock
5) Gears of War 2

morganfell5355d ago (Edited 5355d ago )

What's the matter? Your feelings hurt because I won't bow before your game?

Very few titles have mechanics that are so good you do not care about a story. Crysis isn't one of those. I guess I am one of those smart people that realize Crysis was nothing built a glorified tech demo built buy a group of people that do not know how to market a game engine.

Brain dead people might be able to stare at the "purty lights" and be amazed but I for one expect the story end of the production to hold up it's end of the table.

nirwanda5355d ago

the living water at the very end boss of prince of persia is the best water i've seen this gen

Lifendz5355d ago

Wow that game looks amazing.

sloth4urluv5354d ago

"I played Crysis and it is good but Uncharted is better. Water effects are more than just reflections and color tone. In Uncharted, when Drake gets wet he drips and his clothes actually dry out over time. "

If thats the case tehn I guess Zelda belongs on the list too, because when link jumps in the water his clothes get soaked and they dry out over time...

Seriously the water in uncharted looks great, and I would have put it higher in the list (maybe second), but it dosnt look better than the water in crysis.

Goomba125353d ago

Wow Morganfell....you must be a fanboy

I made a Crysis dreamscene as my desktop background. Just a looping 20 second clip of the shoreline. It's beautiful :)

Mr Bean Laden5355d ago

why is Halo 3 on there? pixelated water in 640p looks anything but refreshing

Pandamobile5355d ago

I don't like Halo, but I have to admit its water is pretty good.

Halo is a graphical masterpiece its priceless like Vincent van Gogh painting.

Dead_Cell5355d ago

Almost as bad as Resistance 2's.
Bioshock then Uncharted for console games IMO.

STONEY45355d ago (Edited 5355d ago )

The water is the only good looking thing in Halo 3... the rest of the game looks like Halo 2 with overly shiny things. AKA like crap.

napoleon_ist5355d ago (Edited 5355d ago )

i have halo 3 and uncharted, halo doesn't match uncharted's fortress stage.

one game is 640p (boo!!), the other is 720p that can be upcaled to 1080p on the ntsc version.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies3d ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken3d ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing694d ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker4d ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing694d ago (Edited 4d ago )

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt3d ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken3d ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.

Infinite is a dumpster fire and as much as I like ODST, in no universe it ranks above Halo 2. This list is trash.

Just exclude Infinite>5>4

ChasterMies110d ago

Best to worst: Halo 3, Halo 2, Halo Reach, Halo CE, Halo 4, Halo ODST, Halo Infinite, Halo 5.
