Will Xbox 360 owners buy a PS3 Slim this holiday season?

Mike Ferro writes: With the recent announcement by Sony of the new PS3 Slim for the low price of $299, many consumers have started pre-ordering the device. The new PS3 Slim has been sitting at the number one spot on Amazon for ten days straight despite the fact it hasn't even been released yet. Could many of those buyers be existing Xbox 360 owners?

It really depends if they are fanboys or not.

It depends on whether or not they got an extra pair of googly eyes lying around for the PS3. Cuz you gotta look you console in the eye.

Right C-Dub?

I find that you can fill the gaps in release schedules quite nicely by switching from one machine to the other. For example, I play mostly JRPGs; come the fall with the release of Demon's Souls and Magna Carta 2, I'll be swapping back and forth between systems. After that, the PS3 exclusives will be taking over my gaming hours for the foreseeable future - Uncharted, Ratchet, MAG, White Knight Chronicles, the NIS JRPGs out in the spring - but I will probably purchase the odd multi or two for the 360 - Darksiders, Edge of Twilight.

Do I prefer one console over the other? Certainly; we all have a 'preference'. The PS3 (slim) just feels like a better built, more (free) feature-packed console. It has a slot loading drive (as opposed to a rattling-tray), an elegant AD FREE interface, and just feels sexier. Do I shun the 360 because of that? Of course not. I'm a gamer, and I want to play games.

It's all about choice. And why not have as many choices and options as possible?

The new price and the games are too temping to pass up for most of them.

If they prefer to continue to get F'ed by M$ they won't buy one.

But only if mom and dad think they have been good. Part of me dreads all these kids getting onto PSN and ruining it like Live.

Four more days...
