No joke: Batman: Arkham Asylum could be best superhero game ever

Despite the booming popularity of his films, Batman has a spotty video game track record. The game based on fabulous franchise reboot Batman Begins landed with a thud, while the game based on the blockbuster sequel The Dark Knight didn't land at all, instead becoming the victim of poor timing and problematic design while costing EA around $100 million to not release. Call the Bat-broker and tell him to sell, sell, sell!

I played InFamous. I played the demo for Batman: Arkham Asylum and its good but its not InFamous.

Is the game that much better than the demo? Really?

I love InFamous. It's definitely one of my top games for 2009, but Batman: Arkham Asylum is definitely the best "traditional" superhero game I've ever played. By that, I mean the best game using well known superheroes (basically D.C. and Marvel).

The game is way better then the demo, the demo feels too linear compared to the actual game and you dont experience any riddler puzzles, make good use of detective mode, play with any other gadgets, or gain experience and level up.

I'm playing through on normal for the first time. I was a little disappointed with how easy the bosses are. And then I faced off against Bane. Holy **** did he beat my ass down. I think I get how to beat him now though, but it's late, and I'm going to bed. Round 2 tomorrow after work! :D

For me InFamous isn't a superhero game. One thing because of the evil path and the other the atmosphere isn't just superhero..ish.

.. of course it's a Super hero game. You have super powers that you've attained and you use them to either save people and their community (which is what all super heroes do with their powers) or hurt them which is what Super Villains do.

Just because Cole is a new Xter and doesn't have a comic book series (yet)doesn't mean he's not a Super Hero.

I for one think this game, though great, is indeed being over hyped and as long as the gaming media have signed off on it being AAA then the hype rolls on and it's PR division has done their job adequately. To me, it's a great game of 8.5 type status and that's just me but we all know in today's gaming environment if gaming sites give an anticipated game anything less than a 9, it's considered a "FAIL" by the morbid staunch gaming community and sells does get affected.

Either which way, great game but not as good as a game like Infamous in general for sure but then again, that's just my opinion going off a demo.

dont play BATMAN if you own any other single player game,cause it raises the bar so high that even a game like MGS or inFAMOUS cant touch it.this is one hell of a game,and should only be played on PS3 cause you can play as the joker and if you pre ordered it you got the scarecrow battle arena.10/10!!!

I am still waiting for the pc version of this game. I played the demo on pc. It is the best looking Unreal game so far. I guess masseffect 2 will probably top it, but the character models in batman AA are insane.
The only real competitor to Batman AA is Infamous. Infamous is definitely one of the best games of 2009 and Batman is shaping up to be great but based on the demo my only concern is that the combat might get repetitive. As far as one on one fight goes, Cole will probably fry batman.LOL:P

it seems like a button mashing thing, but it is actually pretty fun. You may have upwards of 10 guys coming at you from all sides and they may not all be your standard thugs.

You may have some standard, some with shock sticks that you have to stun or jump over, a couple with guns a little to the left...its almost like a puzzle. Which one do you take out first and how? It can get pretty complicated, which makes it fun and not just your standard punch-punch-kick and then move on to the next guy.

Its addicting in a way, and I'm glad that they have some of these as challenges.

looking forward to getting it tomorrow. trading wolfenstein in as well, i'm done with it tbh, v dissapointed. the mp in the ps3 version is screwed up and theres a trophy for completing the single player in under 12 hours. i did it on uber difficulty firt time in 6 and ah a half hours lol very average game so looking frwd to this which has been getting great reviews + thought the demo was a lot of fun

they should have named this game Batman:Guns of the Arkham Asylum lol.
Its like they took mgs and made a Batman mod for it. If you think about it there is a resemblance in the way the game plays. Like when the Joker tells the thugs that Batman just took out a fellow inmate, kind of like how the the random commander says "Why are you late for your status report?" And I mean all this in a good way too. I agree its the best superhero game I have ever played. The original resident evil games made me addicted to puzzles, and this game plays just like a big puzzle. With the predator gameplay, to the over 200 items and puzzles the Riddler wants you to solve. Its freaking awesome. Worth the $60, and if your a Batman nut, a must have, no an illegal act if you dont have it.

Using the Unreal 3 engine, the atmosphere, puzzles, hacking sequences, someone talking to you constantly, etc. this game felt more like an offspring of Bioshock. Arkham Island is the new rapture.

I haven't played anything but the demo on Batman. It was ok but not mind blowing. I got tired of all the slow motion fighting pretty fast. Now Infamous is mind blowing with alot of upgrades to his powers and the story was well written. I can't see Batman being better than Infamous unless they didnt include Infamous since its not based off a real comic book.

I have no doubt it will be great, though the demo didn't exactly wow me. Not sure if it will be better than inFamous though tbh, the button mashing combat isn't really my style but the stealth mechanic seems polished and solid enough.

It has really been a great year imo :)
It started off with a bang(Killzone2),followed by Demon's Souls, inFamous,BlazBlue and now we get BatmanAA. There are good fillers in between too,like RE5,RedFaction&SF4.

And this fall, we'll get games like Uncharted2,GT5,R&C,DragonA ge,AC2,NGS2,Borderlands,Saboteu r,Brutal Legends & AlphaProtocol!

As Ceebubya said above, the fighting isn't so much about button mashing when your playing the full game because you have to know who too atatck first and how because the enemies come in different varieties giving it much more depth then the demo. After playing the demo 4 times I bought the game and was wowed by how much more depth it actually had.

Plus any encounters with the scarecrow is some of the freakiest **** I have seen in a video game in a while.

people keep comparing this to INFAMOUS!!! they are totally to different games, sure i can see the battle with prototype and infamous, but come one people batman against infamous. reality check people batman IS BATMAN. infamous is whack. i understand it's the same developer, but its not the same game nor same publisher.

anyways, i picked up the ps3 version of batman at first i was like this game is ok, but the more i play it the more i can see why the critics gave such high ratings, if not the best comic book every made so far. i am enjoying the hell out of the game. love how the characters are true to the comics, the design look damn good, and the voice acting is superb. i would say it's in par with gtaiv voice acting. i was really surprised the quality of the game came out to be!

It is not the same developer. Infamous was developed by Sucker Punch and Batman was made by Rocksteady. Please do your hmwk before posting ridiculous nonsense. Why are people comparing the 2 anyway? Just because it's a superhero game? One idiot brought up that Cole is a superhero and now everyone wants to chime in? Cole is not a comic book superhero! Batman should be compared to the Superman, Hulk, or Xmen games.

This game feels like Bioshock/Riddick in one game. I don't really see Infamous as a Super Hero game either. That's like calling Fable a Super Hero Game...

I think part of what makes this game great is that it isn't sandbox. Taking place only on Arkham allowed more focused gameplay than having it take place in all of Gotham.
