Upcoming Games for 2009 You Shouldn't Overlook

"Take heart, gentle reader, for I have compiled a short list of games still scheduled to see the retail light of day in 2009. These select titles may not have the profile or marketing muscle of a The Beatles: Rock Band or Assassin's Creed but to dismiss them as anything but potentially amazing games would be foolhardy at best.

@1.1 Thanks for the vids, Operation Flashpoint looks interesting with their realistic approach.

I have some doubts about Section 8 and Alpha Protocol, meaning I will rent those first.

Agreed, I also have doubts about Wet, it disappeared for so long then all of the sudden Bethesda picked it up. Really though I think I will be waiting on reviews of almost everything except MW2, UC2 and AC2.

I don't think UC2 has a chance of being overlooked, hence the reason it's not on this list. Everybody knows about Uncharted 2. And everybody knows it's going to be great.

I think Demon Souls, Dragon Age and Ratchet and Clank will all be overlooked this holiday season.

Honestly I am getting tired of R&C games, I will be buying this upcoming one but I think Insomniac should create a new IP, hopefully something that builds on the 8 player co-op of R2, that was fun.

"EVERYBODY KNOWS ABOUT UNCHARTED 2" Really?? U do know alotta of people out there don't have PS3s yet right. Ur telling me that the average Wii and 360 owner will "undoubtedly' know what Uncharted 2 is. Maybe u MEANT everyone on N4G knows about Uncharted 2.

@Pizzagaki- I thk WET is very original actually. The demo is really addictive and Ive had more fun with it than the Batman demo. I'll definitely pick it up when it gets discounted.

@WMV- I don't know why ur talking about E3 awards and trying to prove to me how good the game is. My argument was that everyone does NOT know about Uncharted 2 or the Uncharted 2 franchise. 3 million people ISN'T EVERYONE. Try and stick to the argument at hand next time.

UC 1 sold somewhere around 2-3 million copies so people knew about it just the media didn't give it much attention and now UC 2 is the game majority sites are talking about just look up all the awards it won it beat some the most anticipated games of 09 and 2010 like gow3, halo odst and mw2 it won the most important award at E3 the best in show award from gamecritics which is decided on by all the biggest gaming sites so to say people don't know of it is ridiculous since it has gotten more attention and praise then any other game and to say a reason for people not knowing about is because there are not many people that have ps3s is dumb there are over 20 million out there more then enough for UC 2 be successful

Wow, deadreckoning, way to take everything literal in order to completely miss the point. "Everybody knows about UC2"--it's called a hyperbole. Look it up. Of course I didn't mean EVERYONE knows about UC2. But most gamers who matter (ie the potential Uncharted consumer base aka ps3 owners) know about Uncharted 2. Enough know about it that UC2 will definitely not be overlooked this fall and doesn't bear the danger of being overlooked and completely passed over. It's one of the biggest games in the media right now. You act like the game is some unknown title that nobody knows about except for "hardcore gamers" that only know it because we frequent sites like this all the time. I would say a 3 million fanbase (which will mean the sequel sells more) is definitely a significant number of people that know about the game. 3 million is no small number. That's actually a very good number for game sales. And once again, the attention it gets from all media outlets just makes it even more known after the game proved itself the first time around. So I don't know where you get this thing that you're trying to play like only some niche crowd knows about the game, cause surely you're not stupid enough to think I truly meant EVERYONE (right? I hope). You know my dad has a playstation and he's never heard of Halo or Forza or Assassin's Creed. My sister has a DS and a Wii and she's couldn't tell you what those games are either (she would probably recognize the name Halo..maybe..but wouldn't be able to tell you what it is other than a game). Does that mean none of those franchises are popular since clearly not EVERYONE knows about them? Don't be an idiot, please. It was clearly hyperbole when I said everybody knows about Uncharted 2. To take that literal and attack that statement is just being asinine. Quite frankly, extremely ignorant to if you mean to imply the Uncharted franchise isn't plenty popular enough at this point to be considered beyond the risk of being overlooked.

I have my doubts for Alpha protocol after the ign preview.
section 8 doesnt look so cool to me, and WET looks very generic to me (gameplay wise).

The rest of the lesser known games looks cool tho.

IGN Preview? The only thing I've seen from IGN is positive stuff about this game. I for one am very much looking forward to Alpha Protocol and will be one of the ones I definitely buy in October alongside UC2.

From that list I also plan on getting Batman (it's on the way from Amazon now), Borderlands and Operation Flashpoint. Really really looking forward to Operation Flashpoint as something to fill that realistic tactical shooter role for me. Borderlands might get put off a bit due to all the games coming out around that time since I also want UC2, Demon's Souls, Dragon's Age and probably Smackdown-vs-Raw2010 too (yea yea, what can I say, I'm a wrestling fan and haven't bought the last two iterations of the game so I'm due one).

In the preview they mentioned that the gameplay isnt very interesting.
They did say that the character development is great.

Batam: AA (today, actually), and Alpha Protocol.

Demon's Souls should be on this, too. Many PS3 owners don't even know about it. From what I've heard, it's an incredible game! I'll probably be getting that one, too.

Uncharted2 will be overlooked which is a shame.

It releases in the middle of a huge adhesive gauze pad.

Ps3 owners aren't at that spot in the Ps3's lifespan where it had a crap online service and a limited amount of games.

I know I listed games on 360....because people like myself aren't limited to 1 system.

But I do have limited funds and I'm sorry....but I wouldn't miss the first days of Modern Warfare2 for a meeting with Jesus.

Assassins Creed also did well on the Ps3 so I'm sure it has followers.

Uncharted 2 actually has a decent amount of publicity, thanks to E3 especially. Almost every PS3 owner probably knows about it by now, and I'm sure the hype will get even bigger towards its release.

And BTW, I have both systems, too, and I'm sooooooo glad I do. With all these games coming out within the next year, it really pays to have a PS3 and 360.

@foxtheory I agree it pays to have both systems this gen. Most people side with one because they can't afford both or just out of pure loyalty. I think it's silly when you think about it both systems have quality games to offer. On the subject I think Operation Flashpoint is going to be great. I've been waiting for a tactical game like this to surface. I'm looking forward to getting on some tactical co-op with my Army buddies.
